  1. Where is this in the City permit page? I can't find it in building permits. Are there any attachments?
  2. Studies show that traffic congestion is good, leads to more infill, better transit (and more transit use) and ultimately, less driving. The SN, in my opinion, has "good" congestion. Eliminating parking would speed up traffic and encourage speeding. https://www.cnu.org/publicsquare/2018/06/06/congestion-can-be-good-study-reports https://ssti.us/2018/06/18/is-traffic-congestion-a-good-thing/ https://www.smartcitiesdive.com/ex/sustainablecitiescollective/12-ways-slow-down-traffic-car-oriented-city/262221/ Somewhat related - The paradox of street design: If it feels a bit dangerous, it’s probably safer https://www.strongtowns.org/journal/2021/8/6/the-key-to-slowing-traffic-is-street-design-not-speed-limits
  3. We're talking about slow traffic through heavily used pedestrian areas in the city, not about suburbanites complaining about slow traffic on the interstate.
  4. I also commute on High from Clintonville to downtown. In the mornings there is no traffic. On the way home High St is slow through campus, but only when students are in class. It's such an easy commute.
  5. Backups are good. It slows down traffic.
  6. In Columbus, the Downtown District has no parking requirements. Most developers feel they need to build parking to attract tenants.
  7. What bugs me about SF housing the last 40 years is how most thoroughfares become back alleys with backyards facing the street. In this case the houses on both sides back onto Cosgray. I think this adds to the feeling of sprawl. Think how nice North Broadway in Clintonville or E. Broad in Bexley feel - they are nice places to walk.
  8. Arch City Development sells Clintonville site, but apartments still planned. https://www.bizjournals.com/columbus/news/2024/01/02/clintonville-apartments-carlot-arch-city-housing.html?cx_testId=40&cx_testVariant=cx_10&cx_artPos=1#cxrecs_s
  9. I took a walk around the project this morning. Crews were removing barriers on High St and pedestrians will be able to use the entire sidewalk. There looks to be protective scaffolding along the 15 story portion of the project. The historical restoration looks great, both along High and Pearl. And here’s a view of the project from Scioto Peninsula I took yesterday:
  10. I would definitely use the drive in the easement to get out to Parkview, if only to upset the Alexander folks...😈

Mid 1980s showing the Huntington tower under construction. The Riffe building eventually blocked this view of the Huntington. Note that High St is six lanes wide!! It was narrowed to 5 lanes in the late 80s.
  12. Can confirm. I drove by on my way to Planks but I didn't get a chance to snap a photo. The site is mostly cleared and shoring is stockpiled. Will it be a 12 or 15 story building?
  13. "Actual Building May Vary" This disclaimer probably should be on every presentation to the Downtown Commission.
  14. The "U" shape keeps units from being too long. Shorter length units allows natural light to reach further into the unit when the building is basically a square.
  15. Just drove by Riverside. Looks like storm sewer construction is underway. Large equipment and precast storm structures on site.
  16. Plus there's 24/7 classical music blaring from the Atrium Lofts building!

1926 photo by Dayton photographer William Preston Mayfield of the nearly completed Leveque tower. It’s amazing how dense Columbus used to be. In this photo it looks like City Hall construction is underway. Also, the lovely art deco building at the SW corner of Gay and Third is under construction.
  18. Since it's on a curve, don't you mean Pavey πr Squared!! 🤣
  19. And the same is happening on W 5th in TriVillage. COTA should build a subway from Cambridge Blvd. to Cleveland Ave. to funnel commuters to the High St. line. (Oops, was that out loud? Wishful thinking.....)
  20. There's an existing thread here:
  21. I work in the Arena District (most of us are in the office) and go to the SN and North Market for lunch regularly - I'll bet we'll stop in at some point.
  22. ^I went - it was a lot of fun! That's really an awesome photo!

From the same batch I imagine: 1948 rendering of the Sandusky freeway (315) looking north. The 2nd bridge from the bottom is Mound St. The bridge in the bottom of the image, if built, would have taken a freeway further south of downtown maybe aligned with Whittier? Instead, 70/71 took the Mound St. bridge route.
  24. If you're a masochist, please enjoy a 6 hour meeting for this project.
