  1. It’s typical city planning by traffic engineers. I agree with posters above - traffic should be slowed to protect pedestrians.
  2. Good - we need to see more of these conversions throughout the region. There are so many underperforming strip malls.
  3. The Pelatonia building and plaza are wrapping up at Carmentonville. The construction fence is gone.

Thanks! You can see the other end of the bridge in the photo I posted. I think tracks were moved necessitating the removal of that portion of the bridge.

Oh, I have no idea what was there.
  6. That sign was placed by a landlord in the hopes of stopping crime. There were other signs around - I remember on at Summit and E 5th. He attached them to all his buildings I think.

That was the access drive and station drop-off for the station. Here's the drive at High St. and the arcade in the late 1940s (from Columbus Railroads.com)

1978 or so. The Nationwide tower is finished and Union Station still exists. Lost of the surface parking has thankfully been redeveloped. The county courthouse complex is pretty small. Notice the wide open fields at the top left - the Market Mohawk area is still pretty barren after the “urban renewal” of the 1960s.
  9. More from Councilman Les Carrier: Hilliard Councilman Les Carrier said that’s where the movement calling for the city to rethink its recently released “Hilliard by Design,” community plan first kicked off about a month ago. “Do we need to go vertical everywhere like everybody else is doing?” Carrier asked. “You know, you look at where you're sitting right now. This is a very special area of our town. It's the epicenter.” https://news.wosu.org/politics-government/2023-10-09/in-hilliard-not-everyone-agrees-on-a-plan-for-growth-the-debate-may-become-common-in-central-ohio
  10. Is that a data center of a warehouse? I can't really tell them apart....
  11. Should have made it more of a feature, like this cul-de-sac island near Easton
  12. To be fair, it would be very difficult to save that tree if they are lowering the new building closer to the road elevation. The developer would need to leave a large chunk out of the building and build retaining walls to protect the root zone of the tree.
  13. Well, this is an existing mobile home park...
  14. Yeah, thanks for that break down. I always thought the Somali and Nepalese populations were higher in Franklin County. The Northland area is very diverse! The City of Columbus estimates there are 45,000 Somalis in the city. This refugee group is now into the 2nd generation. The local Bhutanese-Nepali community estimates just below 30,000, but I'll bet that's inflated due to boosterism...
  15. I was blown away by Toronto this summer. They have a midtown that's taller and much, much denser than anything here. Different scale for sure, but a lot of 5 over 1s in the commercial corridors away from the downtown core. Same with Chicago. There's actually a lot of neighborhood densification going on that we can learn from. Charlotte gets a lot of press but is is very sprawled out - something I hope we can reduce (I'm not holding my breath though...)
  16. There was a long line of dump trucks on High St and on Spruce St. this morning ready to haul off dirt.
  17. Totally random item: When this portion of 16th and Waldeck was rebuilt, the City in their wisdom, wouldn't allow a sidewalk in this traffic island because it is an unsafe crossing over Waldeck. The result is a dirt path....
  18. I'm not generally opposed to the height - how tall is the proposed Campus Partners hotel immediately south? There are also taller apartments and frats in the immediate vicinity. That said, this project does seem shoehorned onto the site. Maybe if they pull the upper few floors back from the edge facing towards High St., like they did for the façade facing 16th. Perhaps the central portion of that façade can be pull back from the traffic island to create a bit more green space at the intersection?
  19. What do you suppose is going to happen in this glass wedge? Observation deck? Employee lounge? Mausoleum for Les Wexner, a la Lenin's Tomb? HQ for the Fantastic Four?
  20. Strange that MF is permitted here on the approach to the north runway. There was a neighborhood on the west side of Hamilton (Wonderland) that was bought up and demolished due to the flight path. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wonderland_(Columbus,_Ohio)
  21. ^Looks like the Tonti lawsuit was unsuccessful!
  22. It's not just Licking Co. - there are 8 sites throughout the state.
  23. Southeast corner of Goodale and Grandview - at the bottom of the hill. It wasn't noted in the CU article.
