  3. I'm not sure where Hottinger got 5 fabs - everything Intel has talked about in in even numbers. Just yesterday an Intel spokesperson mentioned 2, maybe 4 fabs expanding to 8.   5. Definitely IHOP, there's another on E Main in Bexley. I remember eating there as a kid. I'm not opposed to the development. I am opposed to the monolithic, block long podium buildings we are seeing these days. Block long buildings are not anything new and can be articulated better. Here's an example on Clark in Chicago that's not too bad. The newer Target building has a little character. Just across the street is another block long historic building that's OK too.
  6. Well, you never know! This version of the commission might surprise us. They did approve the condo building across the street. Higher density development is working its way north along High St. The presentation tomorrow is in front of the zoning committee, not the full commission.
  7. If the developer proposes something that doesn't require a zoning change (Bank of America, Chick-fil-A, etc), the Commission has no say. This commission doesn't have an architectural review authority like Vic Village.

  9. From the article is doesn't seem the commission voted against this project. There was concern over 1st floor residential units which I agree shouldn't be on High St. and building height. The first proposal had two less units than this version. They added back the 5th floor due to rising construction costs to make the project viable. Recessing the top floor is a pretty typical way to reduce the feel of the height from the street. It also creates nice terraces for those units. The commission has a bad rep due to a few commissioners 10 years ago who are long gone. The problem are residents who are opposed to any change and are a vocal minority. Probably true in any neighborhood.
  10. The new Dodd replacement is near Taylor and Leonard just south of 670, not on the OSU East hospital campus. I do remember reading somewhere that the OSU East tower will be replaced but no timeline was given.

This quote makes me wonder if the old guard in Columbus is really preventing downtown from flourishing.   14. Polaris Pkwy or Gemini Pl. are horrible for pedestrians, and Gemini has sidewalks. Walking along 6 or 8 lanes of traffic is miserable. I maintain my earlier comment that 'walkable' is a misused term and no island of development would be walkable in an area designed exclusively for cars. It's just a marketing term when used to describe a new apartment complex.
  15. The term ‘walkable’ is so misused. Once this is built you can walk from your car to your apartment. You can also have a miserable walk along Ikea Way to Ikea.

  18. It's in Ghent, Belgium. You all can stop worrying about it now. Belgium only gained independence from the Netherlands in 1831 so you can understand my confusion. If you check out streetview in this location you will find a very pleasant pedestrian area, plenty of access to public transportation. I've been reading a lot about Strong Towns and this area of Ghent meets so many of their goals.
