Ha! In the late '80s I lived near the Super Duper at Hudson & High. As I recall it was OK to smoke while shopping.

There are no zoning related Downtown parking requirements.

If Downtown had the same density of Paris we would have a population of 127,200 (2.4 Sq Miles x 53,000/sq mi). Paris is mostly 5-7 story buildings. Of course this population wouldn't be possible because our R/W are wider and there are a lot of uses other than residential. But I think the 40,000 could be reached as long as we keep filling in parking lots with 5-7 story buildings.

Pablo replied to Summit Street's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionWouldn't the public reaction be hilarious if they were like the public urinals in Amsterdam? That said, the self cleaning units in Paris were cool and were for both women and men.

As I recall, they were just the builder for Wilson Place (no real input into the design - developed by Schiff) while they are the developer for Crossline and the Godman Guild projects.

Marker's building Crossline and the Godman Guild replacement in Weinland Park - that's larger than Wilson Place.

Looks like it will. The elevations show new buildings along Central and Brehl on what I assume is the parking lot and gym addition.

Pablo replied to Summit Street's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionI think this is great! The biggest hurdle is Columbus' zoning code prohibiting this use in many neighborhoods. If they can get pre-approval it would smooth the process. I know several folks in Clintonville would like to do this but are unable to due to zoning. I don't think the Clintonville Area Commission is opposed.

Columbus: Historic Photos
Pre 1914 photo showing track construction on High St looking north from Broad. A few buildings remain today from that era. There were streetcar tracks on High before 1900, maybe this is an upgrade? Pretty bustling city. From the Columbus Planning FB page.

New Albany: Ohio One (Intel Semiconductor Facility)
^That looks like a parking lot. Is it near the road? Probably the beginnings of a field office. The equipment on site is not big enough for a mass excavation of a site this large.

Columbus: Downtown: Hilton Columbus Downtown Tower II
The convention center does own a parcel south of Goodale, it's too small for a garage. They also own the large lot between 3rd and 4th north of Nationwide. This is large enough for a garage/hotel. A connector over 3rd (or a tunnel beneath 3rd) could connect this to the convention center.

Olentangy Village owns all the land between this site and the river - I doubt they would allow access.- Columbus: OSU / University Area Developments and News
Totally off topic - I've been thinking it would be awesome to redevelop W Norwich and W Northwood from High to Neil with U-shaped Chicago style apartment buildings. It would add a lot of density and character to a neighborhood that's a mish-mash of dilapidated student rentals. Parking would be an issue if this had to adhere to Columbus' zoning code. The lots are about the same depth as these pictured below, a few blocks from my daughter's apartment in Uptown (Uptown has a population density of 25,000/square mile!). Probably not economically feasible nowadays...just a thought.- Columbus: OSU / University Area Developments and News
