Ohio Census / Population Trends & Lists
I would think once they are settled the Afghans will migrate domestically to the area that works best for their families and communities similar to how Columbus is now home to about 30,000 Bhutanese Americans. Those refugees were also resettled across the country but found themselves here because of jobs and a shared community.

Crews are unloading tower crane segments on High St this morning. Expect the tower crane to grow pretty soon.

Grandview Heights: Grandview Yard
Pablo replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionThat site is very difficult and expensive to build on because of the landfill. When the Time Warner / Spectrum building was constructed they had to drill piers 80' deep to get through the dump to firm ground.

Columbus: Population Trends
Linden area gaining population again, while Franklinton and some Hilltop areas declined. Linden's growth is related to lower housing prices to the west in Clintonville and the Short North. I know lots of folks who bought in Linden after getting priced out of Clintonville. East Franklinton should show growth in the next census. https://www.dispatch.com/story/news/local/2021/09/13/linden-population-up-franklinton-and-hilltop-areas-struggle-census/5572183001/

Pablo replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & Construction^I don't see why anyone would want to destroy that perfectly good parking lot - it's developed a rich, crackled patina like a fine oil painting.

Tower parking was an automated parking structure next to the LeVeque tower from 1958-1974. Cars were lifted by elevator to parking levels. It was 12 stories tall. The view is from W Gay and Wall looking south. I remember seeing this as a kid as we drove by during our always exciting trips downtown to Lazarus. It always intrigued me.

^I’m not a fan of this project. Something similar was proposed a few years back basically wiping out the 3 row houses on the southeast corner of Norwich and High. High St north of Lane has a different character than the rest of the campus strip. I think W Norwich and W Northwood between Wall St and Neil could be transformed with this type of project instead of the Old North Columbus part of High. These two streets are a mix of old houses and apartments built in the 60s and 70s. It could be similar to Broadview in the Grandview area.

I thought so since the site west of Neil between Vine and Spruce is enclosed with a permanent chain link fence with barbed wire on top. It's the type of fence typically surrounding an electrical substation. I wonder if the project is relocating the existing substation on Vine just east of the Flats on Vine? That's where the high voltage overhead transmission lines currently terminate. That would open up that area for redevelopment....or an Amtrak station.

Pablo replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionThere are no parking requirements in the downtown area. It’s up to the developer if they want to include parking. Most do since they believe their tenants will demand it.

Columbus: Population Trends
Per the local Bhutanese Community of Central Ohio there are 30,000 Bhutanese in Columbus mainly through secondary migration. It makes sense - there’s support and a common language so why not be together. All immigrant groups succeed if there are support communities. The BCCOH has an office on Tamarack in the Northland area where a lot of Bhutanese have settled. Columbus is all the more richer with immigrants IMHO. https://www.bccoh.org/about.html

Bus terminal - late 40's or early 50's? Looking north from Rich between High and 3rd. You can see the Statehouse rotunda. I believe that's Town St just beyond the buses. The building at the middle top of the photo is the back of the Hartman Hotel which was located at 3rd and State. I'm kinda sorry I found this because I won't get a lot done at work today 😅 The photos I've found have downloadable high resolution TIFF files - this one is 45 MB.

Pablo replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & Construction^You win some and loose some. The neighborhood roughly bounded by King and 3rd extending from about Broadview east to Olentangy (and the Chambers Rd corridor) is undergoing a lot of densification. There are many locations ripe for new builds as this neighborhood transforms into more of an urban density.
