  1. I asked my 17 year old son what he thought: “that’s the stupidest thing ever.” the headlines will write themselves! “Crew hits new low at lower field” 😀
  2. I’m not a fan of the name. It just seems negative. Lower quality, lower expectations, lower scores. Now if it meant lower ticket and concession prices…
  3. ^Yup, safety. I’ve noticed them in Chicago a couple of weeks ago. Here’s the 78 story One Chicago building, photos from the Skyscraper forum. Can they also provide wind protection? Hate to see anything blown off a tower.
  4. ^The new high school was built next door - it's huge. The old high school site will become athletic fields.
  5. Thanks for that - I had forgotten about the #4. I wasn't aware of the sidewalk project either.
  6. The Alrosa Villa will become the site of 180 affordable apartments. I know there's a need for affordable housing in the city but this site will force the residents to own cars. There is a COTA bus stop on Morse Rd. at Indianola, but it's about a 1/2 mile walk on a road with no sidewalks. It seems like an isolated location. https://www.dispatch.com/story/news/2021/06/07/affordable-apartments-planned-alrosa-villa-site/7511940002/
  7. The building under construction at Wilcox and High has been sitting idle for over 3 weeks. Today I noticed activity on the site. Hopefully they can get this project completed.
  8. Just an FYI: There's a separate thread for this project: Columbus: Harrison West: Thurber Village Developments and News
  9. Crane operator’s cab and turntable going up.
  10. I thought the same thing, but I don't think the team owner will sponsor himself. You gotta bring in outside cash.
  11. The 3M site is interesting. Before the 3M purchase the company was D.L. Auld founded in 1870. By the 1920s it began concentrating on automobile radiator cap emblems (including the famous Ford blue oval) and, I believe, built their first factory on this site. Electroplating wastes (chromium, cadmium, etc) were piped into injection wells on the site. The site has been since cleaned up. And finished in 1970. From the Ohio History Connection web site: “Upon its opening in 1970, the American Institute of Architects applauded the Center as a "bold, imaginative, almost startling structure." Architectural Record, in a July 1971 article, called it "no doubt the most architecturally significant public structure built in Ohio since the State Capitol Building." W. Byron Ireland & Associates, a Columbus architectural firm, designed the Ohio History Center building. The building is an example of "Brutalism," a rational, structuralist, monumental style exported in the early 1950s by French and British architects. Distinguished by its structural honesty and undisguised, blunt use of materials, Brutalism departed from conventional bourgeois styles.”

Ohio History Museum construction at I-71 and 17th, 1969.
  14. Hope this transformer gets moved before the opening - it's blocking the stairs.
  15. Stop it right now. You know the folks in German Village will be adamantly opposed.
  16. ^My wife works there - some of the teachers are shocked, SHOCKED, that there is profanity in some of the tags.

From FB - 1963, The Rowland Building on the northeast corner of Broad and 3rd. It was torn down later in 1963 to make way for the City National (Chase) building. You can see the Sheraton (now Renaissance) under construction on the left and the Athletic Club on the right.
  18. I believe the Swan St. and Yard St. extension project is underway. I couldn't snap a photo when I drove by on 315. The area between the tracks at Twin Rivers Dr. has been cleared. Twin Rivers is closed for what I assume is storm sewer work. There's a bunch of storm pipe visible and a stockpile of pre-cast concrete storm sewer structures along Goodale.
  19. ^I like the building. There are several repurposed old gas stations around. I guess moving it is possible otherwise the developer wouldn't have offered it up. It's a goodwill gesture for sure.
  20. RE: King and High development. From the Columbus Landmarks Facebook page:
  21. ^I think you're right. I went to the site during lunch and counted segments.
  22. I think a section was added this week. The boom of the concrete pump on top of the elevator core in the above photo was getting close to the tower crane jib. Looking at the construction cam today the jib is well above the pump boom.
