^I love this building. This would be the perfect size infill building for many of Columbus’ commercial thoroughfares. It has a very human scale.

Columbus: Downtown: The Assembly (Former Kroger Bakery)
I think Ft Hayes should remain in the District. Maybe the school district could make some money selling their State St. HQ and moving to renovated buildings along Cleveland Ave?

Columbus: Downtown: Hilton Columbus Downtown Tower II
I’ll bet it will go faster once they start the guest room tower portion. From that point up each pour will be the same. Everything below the tower looked really complex on the construction cam - large openings in the floor, leaning columns, larger floor plates... I read that in Toronto, condo towers add a floor every four days once they get above the podium.

Pablo replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionWhat an unremarkable building. I don’t even remember it’s existence.

It's pointing at the Hilton project now. Every now and then the camera looks at something other than the Hilton.

The Hilton construction cam was pointing west this morning

^Wouldn’t be cool if that railroad was a commuter rail line? It’s a straight shot to downtown. Just dreaming....

Convention Center Way provides service access to the two Hilton hotels, a portion of the convention center and a parking garage.

If that becomes a train station the east coast trash trains need to be rerouted.

^The move seemed inevitable. The Godman Guild has a long history of good work in the Short North, but the demographics are changing. Hopefully they can find a spot in a neighborhood that can really use their services.

This might be Columbus' first parking garage, 1948.

I don't know about tearing it down. I like the symmetry of this block facing the river even if this building is 1 floor shorter than the state building at Broad and Front.

It's really interesting watching the construction cam to see how this is coming together. Last week was spent setting scaffolding and placing cables for the post tension slab. Today they are pouring level 6 (I believe).

^City Council passed the tax abatement for the data center - $54 million for only 20 permanent jobs. It's outrageous. I could understand if there were 1000s of jobs, but 20? https://www.dispatch.com/story/news/2021/03/23/council-cuts-police-uniformed-strength-first-time-six-years/6956589002/

Does the City occupy the entire 19 story municipal court building? If so, I could see the need for a taller new building. The new building will have a larger footprint along High (Mound to Fulton) so it might not need to be as tall as the old building. I suppose there might be a plaza at Mound and High to complement the two plazas on the west side of High.

Pablo replied to Summit Street's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & Construction^Hmmm, reading the Dispatch article yesterday I got the sense Worley was forced and not "retired" as Business First stated. H might have been forced out since he didn't jive with Ginther's vision for Downtown. Ginther wants more affordable housing while Worley was pushing for more high end stuff. https://www.dispatch.com/story/news/2021/03/22/ginther-wants-more-affordable-housing-downtown-cddc-leader-leaves/4796372001/

^I've noticed on some research buildings concrete construction is the choice. I'm no structural engineer but I think it has something to do with vibration and its negative effect on research equipment. On some steel frame buildings you can feel the floor move. This building is on Livingston and I bet bus and truck traffic would shake the building.

^It's really a nice scale for the street.

Columbus: Harrison West: Thurber Village Developments and News
This project is showing up in 2 threads. I personally think it should be in the Harrison West thread since it's not within Victorian Village. Maybe there should be a Thurber Village thread that includes this and the Casto shopping center redevelopment just to the north?

Pablo replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & Construction^Those trees were Bradford Pears - I'm surprised they grew as large as they did without splitting. They're now considered an invasive species (look for white blooming trees along interstates next month - they're everywhere) and the City won't allow them to be planted in the R.O.W. anymore.
