  1. ^Without completely rebuilding the road base, this is really the only solution. The sidewalk pedestrian area (or PAR) needs to closely meet doorways and the sidewalk can only have a 1.5% cross slope to meet ADA. Somewhere the grade needs to be made up between the PAR and the curb. Older sidewalks had steeper cross slopes but this doesn't meet current standards.
  2. I noticed scaffolding going up on the High St. side. That either means work is beginning or they need to protect pedestrians from falling building bits.....
  3. There's a huge trailer compound at King and Cannon. They paved the compound - usually these are covered in gravel.
  4. I'm not a fan of the upper floor - looks like a fake mansard roof.
  5. That curved glass corner reminds me of a mid '90s suburban spec office building.
  6. ^If there’s less than 3’ clear between the pole and wall it’s not ADA compliant. Some of these poles are in peoples front yards (East between Blake and Wilcox). I don’t understand why they don’t locate them in the alley. The telecoms successfully lobbied the Ohio legislature to install these anywhere they please in the right-of-way without any public input at all. The only thing they are required to do is apply for a permit from municipalities for technical review, not location. The maximum permits they can apply for in one submittal is 30. These are eyesores. My understanding is that all three telecoms are installing these so we’ll end up with a lot of new poles. There are two right next to each other on Indianola at Maynard.
  7. The masonry work is much further along than what’s shown in the Business First article.
  8. Same architect but different client and budget.
  9. That was never going to happen - too many property owners.
  10. ^You never know! 10 years ago I could never envisioned the building boom Italian Village is experiencing along 4th St. The boom has now jumped 5th Ave. into Weinland Park. The same with E Long St.
  11. I don't think it looks bad. Eventually it will fade into the background. This stretch of 3rd is parking lots and tire shops. It's really the front door to downtown for someone arriving from the airport. Hopefully is can get filled in over the next decade.
  12. The City will upgrade the gazebo and shelter house in Goodale Park. In the rendering below, it seems the boardwalk into the pond is cut from the project. https://www.bizjournals.com/columbus/news/2020/10/14/improvements-to-shelter-house.html?cx_testId=40&cx_testVariant=cx_10&cx_artPos=7
  13. Clintonville certainly has a suburban mindset. They demand adequate parking, are concerned about traffic and don’t want height. As a resident this frustrates me to no end, but I live in the less affluent South Clintonville.
  14. Here's a time lapse video of the garage construction. http://www.meetusincolumbus.com/2020/10/12/see-firsthand-how-the-ohio-center-garage-was-built/
  15. And yes, according to the engineering application, all existing buildings on site will be torn down. The OEA building is not in the site and will remain.
  16. ^^The photos are from the wrong block. It's at E Broad and Young. Here's the site:
  17. That’s the Interdisciplinary Research Facility at Lane and Kenny. Might see another one further west on Lane if that project at North Star gets going.
  18. The developer is just following the Columbus Zoning Code. This project had nothing to do with the area commission. The commission only reviews rezoning applications. It's true that the area commission got a bad wrap 10 years ago and I guess that reputation stops developers from trying higher density projects. Following the zoning code is just the path of least resistance.
  19. ^As long as everything is organic and locally sourced.
  20. More crap for Clintonville. These buildings at the southwest corner of Broadway and High were demolished yesterday to make way for a one story Bank of America branch with a drive thru. No variance needed.
  21. The High/Wilcox project has reached full height.
