  1. ^How does that work if your car is on top? Can the car below you move out of the way?
  2. I think overall it looks pretty good! This grill station looks kinda sad - they must have run out of money for the site/outdoor amenity spaces.
  3. Whenever anyone mentions stacked parking I think of the old Tower Parking on Wall St. just north of LeVeque. Judging by the cars this looks like early to mid 1960's, but I don't remember it. To 4 story stacked garage is tiny compared to this.
  4. Slow your roll. COTA levy won't mean changes overnight but here's what is coming in 2025. https://www.dispatch.com/story/news/local/2024/12/26/columbus-cota-bus-system-plans-for-improvements-in-2025-after-levy/77049761007/
  5. Well, I'm against house/building fires so fire codes are important. It just needs to be updated since the code is basically written to avoid another 1871 Chicago fire.
  6. This video explains one building code change that could reduce the amount of monolith buildings.
  7. I agree about the monoliths. There are a number of factors that cause that: building codes, the developer’s desire to include a parking garage (rectangular usually)…
  8. The quality is reflected in the rents. 4K up to 8K (Parkside on Pearl). You get what you pay for. We need more reasonable rents and to get there builders use cheaper materials. I’m not too concerned about the look of individual buildings as long as they contribute to density. I know I’ll get pushback on this comment but sometimes we can’t see the forest for the trees.
  9. A little more about the sad history of Market Mohawk.
  10. That's to funny! When I was in school one of our study areas was Berliner park. My project included a curved suspension pedestrian bridge over 71, modeled after this one in Kelheim Germany!
  11. Before the construction of I-71, the two parks were connected as Southview Park https://urbanohio.com/topic/5709-columbus-historic-photos/page/9/#findComment-1174103
  12. If we don't know our history, we're bound to repeat it.....
  13. Here’s the southeast part of downtown before “urban renewal”. Probably mid 1950s. You can follow State St east from the statehouse to the library. Grant Hospital is the large brick building to the right of the library. South from there is basically what German Village looks like today. About 1/3 of the area was lost to “urban renewal” and I-70 construction. I think the area is ripe for redevelopment today. There are so many parking lots…and interestingly, the parking lot at 3rd and State has been around forever.
  14. I disagree - Grant is just fine where it is. More people live in Franklinton and S. Linden - why would ambulance and helicopter noise be OK there?
  15. Columbus City Council signs off on plan to add nearly 500 new miles of bikeways. The Bike Plus plan includes a vision network that shows where the city would add bikeways. https://www.10tv.com/article/news/local/boomtown-ohio/columbus-city-council-approves-plan-add-nearly-500-new-miles-of-bikeways/530-2a7a67ec-06d1-4dfd-8e2c-e07329b3f129
  16. City Council officially adopted the Bike Plus plan today.
  17. Oh yeah? I have a couple of books for your free time. The titles are sensationalistic, but the content is valid.
  18. How dare you question the wisdom of our traffic engineering overlords. /s
  19. ^OK, so that is pretty cool. Do you think that's a chrome hood ornament? This building is on the site of the D.L. Auld Company. Still in existence, the company made a variety of metal products in this location until the 1980s. The property was considered a brownfield site and was remediated prior to this construction. I think the mural is an homage to Auld. https://www.bizjournals.com/columbus/stories/2005/04/04/smallb1.html
  20. Agreed. I was thinking of visiting the town of my late aunt sometime in the distant future and checked to see train availability. I don't even need to think about it - just show up at the HBH and hop on the next train. I have 69 daily trains to choose from. Munich is about 2.5 million and Regensburg's population is 150K and yet there are 69 daily trains to chose from.... US rail is just pathetic.
  21. Obviously, apartments bring crime to the community. /s
