With the sheathing installed the mass of the Matan building is making an impression on the W. Main streetwall.

Columbus: Clintonville Developments and News
Pablo replied to Summit Street's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & Construction^Slightly sarcastic. The proposed building does fit in with the existing building to the north. Streets with smaller buildings built in different eras have more character than a large, block long new building.

Columbus: Random Development and News
Pablo replied to Summit Street's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & Construction^Bexley is a separate municipality and is surrounded by Columbus. Main St. through Bexley is really nice!

Columbus: Downtown Grocery Store Project News
Thurber Village shopping center was constructed in the late 1950s or early 60s. It would be cool if it looked like this today. The shopping center is outside of the Victorian Village Commission to redevelopment might be easier.

Columbus: Downtown: Discovery District / Warehouse District / CSCC / CCAD Developments and News
Pablo replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionBack in 2010 this was proposed for E. Broad. The design drew inspiration from what Broad looked like a 100 years ago. The historic photo below is pretty cool. Funding was probably an issue and it never got further than the conceptual phase. Before 2010 there was another median plan designed that was never implemented. The fire department had issues with the plan (which, IMO, was BS and an unwillingness to change. Michigan Ave in Chicago has a median and I watched an ambulance maneuver through traffic just last weekend). Some sort of road diet is sorely needed.

Columbus: Franklinton Developments and News
I ran by the structure last week. There are numerous vertical cracks through the facade. The building looks like it's constructed of concrete blocks, not stone.

Columbus: Downtown: The Assembly (Former Kroger Bakery)
Kroger shutters Columbus bakery, cuts 411 jobs. After the bakery is decommissioned, Kroger will sell it. The structure was built originally as a Ford assembly plant. Partially built cars were shipped down from Detroit and final assembly for local dealers happened here. https://www.bizjournals.com/columbus/news/2019/02/11/kroger-shutters-columbus-bakery-cuts-411-jobs.html?iana=hpmvp_colum_news_headline

Columbus: Italian Village: Jeffrey Park Development
Pablo replied to Summit Street's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionAt what point will density be high enough for retail to move in? There are empty storefronts on High St in the new buildings between 7th and 9th too. Is the rent so high that it's cost prohibitive for local businesses? Can only national chains afford the rent?

Pablo replied to Summit Street's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionAwesome! A one story strip center is planned for the vacant lot south of Broadway with an Orange Theory and a Great Clips! I hope the NIMBYs in Clintonville are pleased. https://www.clintonvillespotlight.com/articles/developer-markets-plans-for-prime-high-street-parcel/

Columbus: Short North Developments and News
Pablo replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionI recall seeing a soil boring rig taking samples a number of years ago. I believe this used to be a gas station so tank removal might be a necessary and expensive requirement. I guess at some point the land value and potential profit will justify the cleanup.

Columbus: Downtown: Merchant Building
I blame the small time developers that dominate local development. Most have a suburban mindset and think there is no demand in Columbus for urban living. They're not willing to take the risk. The city seems ripe for an out of town developer to come in and make a splash. A Denver developer is building on E. Long across from Neighborhood Launch but it's a 5 or 6 story project. We need more out of town developers to challenge the locals to step up.

Pablo replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionBrad DeHays has purchased the old Boys and Girls club building. That's good news - he's known for historic renovations. He could convert a portion of it into an awesome gym for downtown residents with apartments above. https://www.bizjournals.com/columbus/news/2019/01/25/developer-buys-salesian-boys-and-girls-club.html?iana=hpmvp_colum_news_headline

Columbus: Short North Developments and News
Pablo replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionThe news report said residents need to pay $25 for a pass - they didn't mention that it's $25/year. If you use the app it's $1.00/hr? Seems cheap to me.
