  1. The Kaufman project is taking shape as well.
  2. Took a tour of Franklinton during lunch. The Casto project is beginning to frame the 2nd floor of the west building and the garage is moving right along.
  3. ^I believe the GE site is just outside the German Village Commission limits - its within the boundaries of the Schumacher Place Civic Association which is part of the Columbus Southside Area Commission. Is this commission as strict as German Village?
  4. There's activity on the site. A lane is temporarily shut down on High and Hubbard and Pearl are closed. It may be utility work ahead of demolition and construction. Construction fence is going up and the parking lot is closed to the public.
  5. I like the white brick - it's a nice contrast to the rest of the SN.
  6. Subsurface investigation underway at Arcadia and High (former Patrick J's site). Maybe we'll hear about a project soon?
  7. ^There is a labor shortage in Central Ohio. Perhaps Elford is waiting for crews to free up on one of their other projects?
  8. ^There's granite curbs on 17th as well. There sure are a lot of wires, aren't there?

  11. I commute on High St. but never see the back side of the projects. I rode my bike around these projects yesterday to see how they address the neighborhood. Here's the Lane & High project: And on the Pearl Alley side a garage under construction in the former parking lot. The view is to the northwest. The Wellington building is huge, it seems to loom over High St. Here's a view at 17th and Pearl looking southwest:
  12. The building has reached its full height along 3rd St. and precast panels are being hung on the first level.
  13. I wish I had some answers about this project. But I haven't heard any updates since it was approved (other than the slowly evolving construction photos). It's been a weird project from the beginning. CU had this photo of it in their Short North construction updates posted September 7. Its a block up High Street from the photo you posted: Photo from http://www.columbusunderground.com/high-street-construction-projects-dominate-short-north-and-university-district I was wrong about this building topping off - there's scaffolding on the south stair tower and is appears to be growing, albeit slowly...
  14. ^Shipping container buildings can be really interesting. http://www.architecturalrecord.com/articles/12965-carroll-house-by-lot-ek
  15. ^CU photos seems to be taken 1 to 2 weeks before they are published.
  16. ^They're up to the 12th floor on the 3rd St. side. These photos are already out of date!
  17. Looks like major demo is complete. The streetscape along High is unchanged with the exception of the corner of Northwood and High. I'm glad the old High St. homes will be renovated as part of this project. The back side, however, is wiped clean.
  18. I took a stroll around River South today - lots to see. I like the exterior finishes on Borror's building at Front & Main: Exterior cladding on the Trautman building: The Rich St. side: Quite a change compared to 5 years ago.
  19. The building developed by Stonehenge at 1055 N. High (W. 3rd and High) has reached the 4th floor. The type of construction is different from most other buildings on High - steel studs with a concrete slab between each floor. Walls separating units are clad in metal. Does anyone know why? I've never seen this before. The building was approved as a 6 story structure but I swear they've topped off the structure. Not pictured, but the stair and elevator cores appear to be finished and there's a flag at the top, usually a signal that the building is at it's full height. Hopefully they're just waiting for a crane, the forklift they've been using can't reach much higher. It's a slow and strange project.
  20. The 711 N. High project is moving right along. It looks like the elevator core is nearing the 9 story mark and garage construction has begun on the Wall St. side of the project. It's a really tight site and I've noticed that only occasionally is a lane of traffic shut down for deliveries. The sidewalk is open and the roof of the pedestrian tunnel is used for storage.
  21. ^It was mostly Pennsylvania Railroad and C&O yards. The key to the photo is here: http://www.columbusrailroads.com/new/utility/display_html.php?color_primary=99&color_secondary=176&color_text=173+%28should+often+be+173+WHITE+or+176+BLACK%29&header_photo=w_cbls_aerial-150.jpg&htmltitle=Spruce+Street&file=.%2Flive%2F05Steam_Railroads%2F21Aerial_Photos%2Faerial_spruce_st.htm
  22. ^I think this is a good program. Now that sophomores are forced to live in dorms, there may be landlords who want to unload properties further from campus. I've always liked the feel of north campus and if I were an employee I would definitely take advantage.
  23. 600 Goodale is cheap, look at it in depth. Maybe they could've worked with the same architect, but not the same developer. Elford builds quality and builds to last, they are a great choice. It is cheap. Pressure treated framing on the underside of the balconies is clearly visible in Google Streetview. :-/
  24. ^Connecting to Michigan would require a bridge over the exit ramp from 315, probably something White Castle doesn't want to pay for.
