  2. I read some of the comments from Jarmo (pre-JD hire) as him almost scrambling and wanting to get back to a 7th or 8th seed to keep his job. His contract was up in, what, two years? He mentioned he'd be comfortable going into the season without Jones having signed a contract. Then, JD got hired with a five year-deal, Jarmo got an extension and suddenly the tone is different. Davidson is mentioning they'd explore a trade if it became apparent Jones won't sign in Columbus. On the coaching front, he mentioned the new hire can't be a guy who's expecting to come in and compete for a Cup right away. JD is preaching more patience - almost signaling that a bigger rebuild might be on the way over the course of 2-3 years, whereas Jarmo, publicly, was signaling he expected the club to compete for the playoffs next year. Maybe they still will, who knows. JD has also mentioned the new coach has to have NHL coaching experience - I assume either as an assistant or a head coach. That rules out some interesting names like Jukka Jalonen (former - I think? - Finnish national coach and I believe head coach of Jokerit) and Rikard Gronborg (I believe Swedish national coach). Both guys have been touted as the best coaches outside of North America for awhile and who probably deserve an NHL shot. Maybe Jalonen will join the staff as an assistant and then get a shot as the head coach after the rebuild/reload is done. He has said in previous interviews he'd prefer to be an assistant first in the NHL. The NHL coaching requirement would also eliminate some interesting names from the college ranks. Either way, there's a lot of "Hockey Men" vibes back. That's not necessarily a bad thing for the franchise, but it does limit some of these unconventional moves - like a Euro coach, for example. My top pick - based on the public parameters - would be Gerard Gallant, but I have a feeling the Rangers or Seattle will simply bid him out of the price range Columbus is comfortable with. David Quinn is getting an interview. Meh. Brad Larsen getting an interview is surprising. His work on the power play has been dreadful for 5+ years. Sounds like they may be interviewing a couple other candidates. Outside of Gallant (who did excellent work with Vegas) none of the guys rumored are all that exciting to me. Tocchet is another throwback style which the club doesn't need, imo. Gallant could do well here for 3-4 years and if he gets this team to being a consistent contender, then it could pave the way for a European coach. Gallant's shelf life in Vegas and Florida - despite pretty good success - was pretty short. Can't remember a busier offseason or one with so much impact on the line in a long time...maybe 2012 with the Nash, Foligno, and Bobrovsky trades on top of hiring John Davidson (the first time).

  4. Relatedly, I've heard a lot of anecdotes about dry cleaners struggling. There were (and still are) very few events to dress up for, relative to pre-covid times. A lot of the white collar corporate jobs that might require a suit and tie went to WFH. So who were the customers to get their stuff dry cleaned for the better part of a year? Not many.
  5. ^A Hawaiian place that won't be offering Acai bowls?
  6. Cincinnati area, yes. They were bidding to win the USPS fleet contract but lost out. Shares have plummeted since. Another Ohio-based EV manufacturer has had a bit of a bumpy ride in Lordstown. Stock is up some 40% since the end of last week. Why? https://businessjournaldaily.com/lordstown-motors-week-to-open-plant-to-analysts-investors/ In the past few months, Lordstown has had some tough PR regarding its prototype vehicle - allegedly catching on fire on one of its first test drives and apparently performing poorly in the San Felipe 250.

So much for Vance running as a "personal freedom" conservative. Definitely branding himself as an "own the libs" Republican. If you actually were for liberty, personal freedom, etc. you wouldn't give a **** about a group of people wearing masks. It doesn't impact you at all.
  8. https://ir.workhorse.com/news-events/press-releases/detail/174/workhorse-group-reports-first-quarter-2021-results Workhorse released their Q1 earnings and this week and...yikes. Business appears to be nearly dead without the USPS contract.
  9. Maybe WSB isn't as powerful as some think. Above chart is CLOV YTD, blue area is the time of your post, roughly.
  10. Seems like the testing of their prototype has gone...poorly. Aren't they supposed to start production in September?
  11. Good call. WKHS down to single digits now.

The GOP's rebrand of the "Working Class Party" is going well.

  14. And if you want to buy a resale/existing house, be prepared to go 10+% above list price, offer an appraisal gap, offer to pay seller's closing costs, and waive remedies upon inspection. A real lose/lose situation if you're a buyer right now.

SYG went into effect this month. I know many people see the officer's actions as justified based on the video evidence so far. But if Bryant had a reasonable and honest fear of being in immediate danger of death or bodily harm, she was justified in holding her knife. We will likely never know the details of the encounter that led up to that point. Just...very curious to me that none of the big SYG proponents have come out in support of Bryant. A very complicated and tragic situation, regardless of who was "in the right" with regards to the law.
  18. I can see why the tweeter in question is confused. When the ads use the word "our," it implies it is coming from the state, which is in big letters at the bottom left of the ad. There is also nowhere stating the ad has been placed by a nonprofit unless you go to the website, and even then it's a bit unclear.

LMAO Yes, these are similar things. To your other points, I will provide a quote from noted left wing shill (.../s) Jonah Goldberg:
