Columbus: Franklinton Developments and News
DarkandStormy replied to G3000's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionPersonally, having tried to ride around the bike lanes downtown, I only feely comfortable biking/scooting in this city in protected bike lanes. Drivers simply aren't aware of pedestrians/scooters/cyclists enough for it to be a safe commute in an unprotected lane.

I'm not sure I see the correlation (causation even) that Trump ruined retail. I can really only speak to personal experience & observation, but a lot of people I know are buying things online and returning either via UPS or B&M stores instead of going to stores and taking a look at whatever product they're considering. It's not 100% Amazon either. It's more of the convenience of clicking a few buttons and having items to try out in a few days. I don't think that means retail is dead - at least here in Columbus, big suburban malls like Easton and Polaris are seemingly always packed.

If I were planning on driving a car for 15 years it wouldn't be an American car. YMMV.

Go to Easton (in Columbus) on literally any Saturday.

Columbus: Downtown: 80 on the Commons
Maybe it's because I haven't been by in awhile, but that exterior looks unfinished - almost like black foam. Also, assuming it's basically done...it looks quite a bit different from when the 225 renderings.

Electric Cars
https://finance.yahoo.com/news/tesla-unveils-model-y-suv-041050132.html Tesla unveiled it's Model Y last night and as they said - it's mostly built on the Model 3 frame. It fits, space-wise, into the compact SUV space. Because of the familiarity of the parts with the Model 3, mass production should be much easier but many people seemed underwhelmed by a "slightly larger Model 3." Elon noted earlier press releases that Tesla will be upgrading all of its 12,000+ superchargers (and adding more) so that charging times will be reduced - 1,000 miles/hour is the goal (of course, with a 310 mile range on a Model 3 that means fully charging in ~20 minutes at a supercharger, though likely less time if you aren't starting from 0%. Pre-orders are now available on the Y and the Semi. He also noted that production slowed to almost a halt last year on the solar roof as they focused the Li-Ion production on the Model 3 batteries. Rumors are swirling about the next unveiling to be some sort of pickup. Wall Street seems mostly unimpressed by the event last night (which was about 80% just a quick history of the company).

Cleveland Browns Discussion
Thomas, by the way, is signing a 4 year, $55 million deal with the Ravens. $32m guaranteed. He's only played in 29 games the last three seasons.

Columbus Blue Jackets Discussion
Pens won again, bumping them up to 83 points through 69 games. If the Jackets don't want to be first round sacrificial lambs for Tampa Bay, they need to jump the Hurricanes and ideally the Penguins as well.

^That section along High St. looks (and is going to look) vastly different from just a couple years ago. It's still funny to see small offices nestled in between new restaurants and stores though.

Columbus: German Village / Schumacher Place Developments and News
DarkandStormy replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionI have some friends (or friends of friends?) on Facebook who are sharing posts about it and the Commission Meeting: I can copy/paste comments but they basically boil down to "MUH PROPERTY VALUE" and "PRESERVATION!!!" - the only building that would be demolished was built in 1981, hardly historic.

Columbus Blue Jackets Discussion
Well, they went "terrible game - bad game." 2-3 on the homestand including an aggregate score of 9-2 in the final back-to-back losses. Team is now barely treading waters and the playoffs are slipping away.

ODOT Policy Discussion
https://www.dailystandard.com/archive/2019-02-27/stories/37144/state-rep-tax-hike-too-much-at-once Not sure this is the best place to discuss the proposed increase in the gas tax (Ohio Politics?), but it seems like it would impact ODOT Policy. Ah yes, "think of how much more we could do if we just didn't have to pay people to do it."

Columbus Blue Jackets Discussion
I predict this move seals Jarmo's fate with CBJ - either for good or for ill. He very well could lose his three prize free agents this summer for nothing, and it's not like the Jackets are suddenly Cup favorites. On the other hand, if they win a series or two, the move will cement him as the GM for years to come. But if it's first round exit, followed by losing the big 3...yikes, it'll set the franchise back a good several years.

Columbus Blue Jackets Discussion
The Blue Jackets landed centre Matt Duchene from Ottawa in a blockbuster trade ahead of the NHL trade deadline. https://www.jacketscannon.com/2019/2/22/18236328/columbus-blue-jackets-trade-for-matt-duchene-vitaly-abramov-jonathan-davidsson-first-round-center The Jackets gave up two top prospects and a 1st round pick - they'll send Ottawa another first round pick if Duchene signs an extension. He's a free agent July 1, just like Bobrovsky and Panarin. Barring further trades, the CBJ front office is going all in - and the team currently sits out of a playoff spot.

Toxic Masculinity
https://ph.news.yahoo.com/barack-obama-talks-toxic-masculinity-023549457.html?guccounter=1 Pretty interesting article on a recent discussion with Barack Obama and Steph Curry. Obama even touches on themes in rap and hip-hop (which should please everyone here who has posted BUT WHAT ABOUT RAP in this thread). I'm sure there was more discussed, but the article highlights these main things: -Being a man = being a good human being, being responsible, working hard, being kind, respectful, compassionate -If you are confident, you don't have to display that by putting others down - a better way to do that is to lift others up. -A lot of the violence and pain come from men seeking respect. A lot of cultural influences, like hip-hop and rap, are centered on having more than others (even if not true), therefore I can disrespect you - but really it's revealing your own insecurities -Obama notes how different it is when groups of women get together vs. men - women are much more open and comfortable talking about what's going on with their lives, feelings, etc.
