  2. Are you sure you wanted this in the Columbus Music Fest thread? This is a comment in this thread: https://www.urbanohio.com/forum/index.php/topic,17502.msg899887.html#msg899887 Doesn't seem exclusive to music? Like I said, I wasn't sure if it was posted elsewhere.

I almost never play the lottery - the odds are just terrible. I ended up with a little more cash than usual after a friend paid me back this weekend. On Tuesday, I saw the Mega Millions was up to $458m so I figured what the heck, threw $2 down. I've played the lottery probably less than 20 times in my life. There's a drawing almost every week at work (people pool money, buy 15, 20, whatever tickets...they never win). To my surprise I matched 4 (!!!) numbers and missed by two digits on the 5th. I was also one digit away from the mega ball. So on two numbers, I was a sum of three digits away from winning $458m! As such, I won $500 (I'm actually net positive playing the lottery in my lifetime) which did not require me going to a bank or filling out any forms to claim it. I haven't told anyone at work.
  4. http://nbc4i.com/2018/03/26/final-preparations-underway-for-womens-final-four/ The Women's Final Four kicks off tomorrow at Nationwide with the semi-finals, with the winners playing for the National Championship on Sunday. Each team has a "home base" at hotels throughout the city as well as street placards lining the way (State Street, for example, has a blue street sign designating it Leprechaun Way" for the weekend) as well as meet-ups at bars in the Arena District - Boston's, Three Legged Mare, R Bar, and Gordon Biersch. All games are sold out. Sorry if posted elsewhere already.

Delay, delay, delay...the Tesla way! My buddy sent in his configuration for his Model 3 last week and was told to expect it delivered in the next 3-6 weeks. We'll see if that actually pans out (narrator: it won't).

I'm going to start doing an experiment and talking loudly about products I don't want/need and haven't searched for and see if they show up on my phone or digital ads.
  7. Believe they are saying invest the % required to get the company match (free money) - some employers require you to contribute x% of your income to get y% company match. But if your 401k plan isn't great or comes with high fees, they are saying only do what is required to get y% match. Outside of that, you can contribute to a Roth IRA or traditional IRA (depending on your income, if you qualify). This gives you better fund options, lower fees, etc. especially through Vanguard, Fidelity, and Schwab because they all offer super low cost index funds of their own. You could dollar cost average your IRA contribution - $105.77/week would max it out for the year, for example, if you started on 1/1/18. If your question is converting your 401k to a Roth IRA, yes there will be gains (most likely) to recognize on that conversion.
  8. Depends on the funds available to you. At 27, I'm assuming you aren't planning on touching this money until at least 59.5 years old (unless there's a catastrophic emergency). So 30 years, more or less, is your timeframe. https://www.investopedia.com/articles/basics/08/stocks-bonds-performance.asp I did some back-testing to 1995 (here - https://www.portfoliovisualizer.com/backtest-portfolio#analysisResults) looking at a S&P 500 portfolio (VFINX), total bond portfolio (VBLTX), and a combo of them. I started with 1995 since that is when VFINX began as a fund but I could go farther back with another fund that existed previously. I said you would contribute $500 monthly, adjusted for inflation, and that the 3rd combo portfolio was to be re-balanced quarterly into 60% stocks / 40% bonds. There is actually not much difference in the 100% stock portfolio vs. the 60/40 split (~$526K to ~$500K as of 12/31/17). But the 100% bond fund lags over $100k behind after 22 years. So to combat inflation and capture the growth potential stocks have, you need at least 50% in stocks probably even 60%. Because bonds are more of a known entity, they will return less over the long-term. The most important thing, whichever allocation you choose, is to make sure you invest regularly and don't stop investing if things get bad - that's when stocks go on sale. Buy up the shares at a lower price.
  9. http://www.dot.state.oh.us/districts/D06/Construction/Documents/2017%20Construction/ODOT_Let_2018_District_Esize.pdf ODOT released their Zone 6 plans for 2018.
  10. I've said this before, but if I already have the means (read: money) to use a Lyft or an Uber, why would I take one either before or after I've waited and rode on a bus? I'm not going to wait around and pay a bus fare, and then suddenly drop $15 on an Uber to get to work. That's completely impractical to me, but perhaps others disagree.
  11. The Streak 2018 ended at 10 with a 2-1 loss to the Blues. http://www.sportsclubstats.com/NHL.html The Jackets still are in good position of making the playoffs with 6 games left. If history is any precedent, they need 6 points in the final 6 games to make it in. Unfortunate news - https://www.1stohiobattery.com/columbus-blue-jackets-news/2018/03/2040/forward-nick-foligno-out-two-to-four-weeks-with-lower-body-injury Forward Nick Foligno is out 2-4 weeks with a lower body injury, leaving the forward lines a bit scrambled for the rest of the season. Winger Josh Anderson is traveling with the team on the 3-game road trip through western Canada, indicating he's close to be being back. As for now, the Blue Jackets called up Alex Broadhurst from Cleveland and he was rotating in at center during practice. The team could also lean on Markus Hannikainen to play and Brandon Dubinsky is likely to be a mainstay in the lineup through the end of the regular season. Expect PLD to center Panarin and Atkinson again. Jenner and Vanek will flank Wennberg. The bottom six gets tricky but it appears Torts will start out with Dubinsky centering Milano and Bjorkstrand, leaving Letestu on a 4th line with Calvert and Hannikainen/Broadhurst.
