  1. There's controversy of course. The Browns sent the signed docs to the Bengals who were supposed to countersign and forward. The Bengals just sent their own to the league. http://www.espn.com/blog/cincinnati-bengals/post/_/id/28786/running-out-of-time-inside-the-browns-botched-trade-attempt-for-aj-mccarron Nope, the Browns failed to notify the league. Some rumors/speculation/conspiracy theory is that the Browns FO haggled because they don't like Hue Jackson and Hue was the guy who wanted McCarron. So they dawdled until the last minute and then it was either 1) too late or 2) done purposefully too late to make it seem like the blame should be on the league when it was their fault.
  2. He's also said he's doing a website redesign. It sounds like it hasn't been touched since 2004 (the design). http://www.choosefi.com/045-jd-roth-get-rich-slowly/ ^Here's a podcast from a couple weeks ago featuring JD.
  3. Re: #3, I used to live directly to the west of the far right hexagon. There is (was?) still a business or two operating in some of those old warehouse type buildings. I was hoping I could stick it out to enjoy the entirety of GV Yard and be able to just walk over there (I did all the time to the Giant Eagle) but I decided I needed to get some equity rather than losing everything to rent. That 3rd Ave stretch under the rail road tracks is terrible for bikers and pedestrians. I know they have a plan to eventually shore that up, but man that's such an awful stretch.
  4. A titan in the personal finance blogosphere, JD Roth, bought back his original site Get Rich Slowly and is now in the process of transferring it back to his ownership. http://www.getrichslowly.org/blog/ I wasn't really reading about personal finance (or just blogs in general) when JD started his site, but I've heard from others that he's almost the godfather of personal finance blogs as he started a web journal in 1997 and then Get Rich Slowly in 2004, detailing his journey going from deep in consumer debt to financial independence. Most recently, he's been writing over at Money Boss - http://moneyboss.com/. Just as an FYI if any of you followed Get Rich Slowly or JD in the last 15+ years.
  5. I can buy 100% bonds in my 401k, IRA, and HSA. Heck, I can leave it in a "money market" account where it earns nothing. I can buy 100% REITs in at least my IRA. I can by 100% international stocks in all of them. I can buy 100% international bonds in all of them. I can buy a few mixed funds as well. I can buy target date funds in my IRA and 401k, which shift asset allocation the closer to the "retirement date" we get. The only incentive people have for going 100% equities is to try and maximize their earnings over the long term. If that's how they choose to invest, that's up to them. But there are plenty of other options available.
  6. ^If they just put a $25k limit on combined 401k/IRA contributions that'd be fine with me. I'd just skip the 401k since our provider charges a 0.25% fee.
  7. https://www.cnbc.com/2017/10/30/congressional-scrooges-want-to-cut-401k-contribution-limit.html This may be more appropriate in Current Events, but part of the tax reform plan proposed by Republicans has them reducing the 401(k) contribution limit down to $2,400. Or not touching it at all. Or upping it. No one knows for sure, but it's clear that the 401(k) plan has been considered in the tax reform process. https://www.cnbc.com/2017/10/24/suze-orman-says-70-is-the-new-retirement-age.html Suze Orman says 70 (and not a day before) is the new retirement age. I guess if you're a habitual spender? https://finance.yahoo.com/news/wall-street-set-open-higher-earnings-strong-jobs-131106709--finance.html Stocks heading to new all-time highs. Again.
  8. https://www.si.com/nfl/2017/11/1/nfl-trade-deadline-roundup-browns-mccarron-mmqb-newsletter Just when you think they can't go any lower... Browns bungle deadline trade with Bengals - the Browns front office forgot to make the trade call to the league office before the 4 p.m. deadline. Cleveland was set to acquire AJ McCarron from the Bengals for two draft picks in 2018. I'm sure that will boost DeShone Kizer's confidence.
  9. 4-1 win last night in the first leg against NYC. Nearly guarantees they advance, but of course nothing is guaranteed.
  10. What a game on Saturday. Ohio State overcame 1st half deficits of 14-0, 21-3, and 28-10 as well as being down 35-20 (all largely via shooting themselves in the foot with horrible kickoff coverage and a bunch of penalties as well as some questionable calls by the officials) to beat #2 Penn State 39-38 in an instant classic. The offense came alive in the 2nd half and J.T. Barrett led three scoring drives in the final quarter to seal the comeback. https://www.elevenwarriors.com/ohio-state-football/2017/10/87109/ohio-state-buckeyes-stun-penn-state-39-38-jt-barrett
  11. LOL at Ramirez getting MVP consideration (if he does). Total no show.
  12. SO and I starting to do some research on this...no idea where to start. Both sides, imo, have made this a very confusing issue.
  13. Fire Gulati.
  14. https://germanvillage.com/event/celebrate-grassroots-advocacy-columbia-gas-preservation-partnership/ It is quite hilarious the GVS is claiming victory when the meters will still be placed outside. I'm not sure if at the rear of the homes is any "safer" - what if there's an actual issue and personnel need to get to the meter? Do they have to scale fences and gates?
  15. Time to end the Kipnis in CF experiment.
  16. You say it's crazy and then cite several legitimate reasons lol. It's expensive to attend games. It's much easier to sit in front of your 4K television with cheap beer, an open bathroom, and more comfortable seating. It's easier to follow along your fantasy football lineup - the RedZone channel will show you every scoring play if you want. It's just the comfort of home > the money and discomfort of being at the stadium.
  17. Capitol Cup Coffee (located at the Columbus Commons - same building as Market 65 next to the Sheraton) closes today. Small business that made it 6 years but the Starbucks going in at the Sheraton and loss of tenants in the Hertz Management building proved to be too much. Sad day for them and the local coffee community.
  18. When Musk offers an idea, one does not simply discuss the practicality of said idea.
  19. 15 of JT Barrett's 25 completions were completed at or behind the line of scrimmage. He's still an awful downfield passer and Haskins came in and looked like an All-American by comparison.
  20. Didn't Musk come up with the concept for the Hyperloop but isn't actively involved with Hyperloop One? I can't keep track with Tesla, Solar City, Spacex / Mars Mission, Boring Company (tunnels), AI, etc.
  21. LOL why?
  22. http://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/20691364/andrew-miller-cleveland-indians-set-activated-disabled-list Andrew Miller may be activated tomorrow.
  23. I'm going Sunday. It's the soonest I could get up there with work/life the last couple weeks.
