Electric Cars
While not totally applicable to this topic, Tesla rolled out their solar roof ordering this week with installation set for June. Just six months after claiming that the solar roof will cost less than a regular/dumb roof BEFORE factoring in electricity costs, consumers are finding that statement by Musk to be patently false. Many users are finding that the Tesla estimator to be pricing a new roof 5-6 times higher than a regular roof. Even after factoring in the tax credit, the cost will still be 4-5 times more if someone chooses a Tesla solar roof. To show that a solar roof is more cost efficient, Tesla estimates the total cost of electricity saved over THIRTY YEARS. This, of course, estimates the buyer will purchase a Powerwall or two to go completely "off the grid" (ignoring if this is even possible in overcast/snowy states like Ohio). Some buyers do not see a full "payback" for more than 30 years. The estimate calculator assumes a 2% annual increase in electricity costs (while, of course, fully ignoring the additional money paid for the solar roof/Powerwall could be invested and return a 7+% annual yield, conservatively). So once again, it appears Musk over-promised and under-delivered on a "new" or "innovative" product. Perhaps, eventually, this vision of a cheap solar roof will come to fruition, but this initial roll out certainly is not it.

Columbus Blue Jackets Discussion
First back-to-back-to-back home sellouts since January of 2007. Amazing. Gotta think they lose a couple coming up. They played pretty poorly last night and against the Canadiens (heck, even the Kings game last Tuesday as well). At Winnipeg (who just beat the Blackhawks tomorrow, then at Minnesota on New Year's Eve. The Wild are riding an 11-game win streak of their own. Flip the calendar and the fighting McDavids are in town, then a tough 3-game Metro Division starts at Washington and then home games against the Rangers and Flyers (even Carolina has turned it around a little bit). If they sell out the game against Edmonton, they could push their "home sellout streak" to 6 games pretty easily after that.

Hilarious. Republicans complaining that we can't continue to destroy the planet and our natural resources. What a joke.

Columbus: Downtown: Convention Center / North Market Area Developments and News
DarkandStormy replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionThe entire existing North Market building would stay there, and I think even be expanded in Wood/Schiff's proposal. And "entertainment district??" What exactly is the rest of the Arena District?

Columbus: Downtown: Convention Center / North Market Area Developments and News
DarkandStormy replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionI liked Flaherty's proposal the best, but it didn't make the cut. I think of the finalists, without seeing NRI's, that Wood's is the best design and best for the area. LOL at "too dense." It's Columbus. It's not going to be too dense. The Convention Center will become more accessible now off of Goodale, so not ALL the traffic will spill out onto High Street. http://614now.com/2016/business-2/north-markets-parking-lot-may-turn-into-a-skyscraper - More details on two of the finalists here. The recent growth of Columbus and potential for this space makes me think Wood/Schiff will get the nod. A spokesperson for the City (or North Market) mentioned an emphasis on residential, not so much office. I think that will lean in favor of the Woods/Schiff proposal.

Yeah, we saw it coming for awhile - layoffs, the huge 70% off EVERYTHING sales, and then finally the "all sales are final" notices.

Columbus-Lima-Fort Wayne-Chicago Passenger Rail
Columbus' refusal to even join the efforts is disheartening. The leaders in Columbus are doing a DISSERVICE to its citizens yet again. The Smart City Grant was nice, but who the heck cares if Columbus gets driverless cars a week before every other city? There's no point. The leaders need to put major efforts into LONG TERM transportation solutions that would help citizens and decrease the need for people to buy cars (as well as the city's needs to constantly be expanding highways).

It's an expensive endeavor to go to 25+ more games, but wow. I'm on board. This team isn't just good...they look scary good right now. Going for 12 tonight.

Columbus: Downtown: Convention Center / North Market Area Developments and News
DarkandStormy replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionNot the kind of proposal I was expecting. Was thinking/hoping for Markthal from Rotterdam or Reading Terminal Market in Philadelphia. That tower would certainly change the area - there's mainly just bars down Park Street and more restaurants to the east on High Street.

Columbus Blue Jackets Discussion
This is the kind of run I assume management was hoping for back at the inception of the franchise. OSU basketball is the worst it's been in 10 years, paving the way for the Jackets to own the city from January-April (and perhaps beyond). A playoff series win (or heck, even two) would push the franchise to levels not seen before -> actual fan interest for the sake of interest, not people buying tickets to "be seen" as it was for many nights those first few years.

The Ohio State University Buckeyes Football Discussion
Watson has thrown 15 INTs this season and our defense is a bunch of ball hawks. I like that matchup - and hopefully the linebackers can contain him when he runs.

Columbus Blue Jackets Discussion
Jackets are good. 6th overall in the NHL with the fewest games played. It's early but...the advanced metrics suggest this pace is fairly sustainable. They're starting to dominate in possession numbers, their power play is a bit up and down but mostly been excellent, Bob is playing well again and healthy....it's all things go for the CBJ.

The Ohio State University Buckeyes Football Discussion
^At least JT can run but he doesn't anticipate throws anymore (i.e. "throw the receiver open"). He waits until his guy is in a huge open window, makes sure he's there for 2-3 seconds, then pulls the trigger - usually it's inaccurate or dropped. Might as well just run the triple option at this point.

The Ohio State University Buckeyes Football Discussion
Ohio State is in but I have zero confidence in them picking up a win on 12/31. The offense is a horrendous mess - JT has regressed as a QB from 2014 (it's almost like hiring a bad QB coach has a bad effect on the QB...go figure), the O-Line can't pass block, the receivers can't catch when they do get open, and the OCs seem to forget Mike Weber for 20 minutes at a time. The play-calling is predictable and the execution is bad. Where is the team that rolled in Norman or trounced Nebraska 62-3? They're young and inconsistent.

I'd disagree - most of the guys are average to kind of bad players. NIT is the likely end game and I don't see them winning more than one conference road game.
