Columbus: OSU / University Area Developments and News
DarkandStormy replied to CMH_Downtown's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionLOL Campus Partners. "More adult...like Ann Arbor." First off, you're in Columbus so throwing out U of M as your model location will not win you over with anyone here. Secondly, what "adults" are going to want to pay for parking in an area surrounded by young, drunk college students? They can get their "adult" experience anywhere else in town. It seems like it would do well for 7-8 Saturdays a year and struggle the for the other 357 days. I realize you can't keep High Street the same forever, but trying to cater to people who don't live immediately in your vicinity? Seems like a tough sell.

SJW's are using the Lochte story to show we are racist (compared to Gabby Douglas outage...have no idea what happened as I was on vacation) as well as showing "white male privilege" for rapists.

Cleveland Guardians Discussion
This isn't even close to being a fact. http://www.espn.com/nba/attendance/_/year/2013 2014 - 4th highest attendance in the league and 101% of their arena capacity. 2013 - 3rd highest attendance in the league and 102% of their arena capacity. 2012 - 4th highest attendance in the league and 102% of their arena capacity. 2011 - 5th highest attendance in the league and 101% of their arena capacity. Even without LeBron the Heat finished at #6 in the league (both 2015 and 2016) and above 100% of their arena capacity. Everyone counts tickets sold as attendance. Just because the tickets are sold doesn't mean there's a body in the seat. By that logic the Indians "actual" attendance is even worse than what's being reported...

You do know that their home field "barely holds" 30K people, right?? Because....they took seats out in RF since they couldn't sell them, no?

Apparently no one wants Hartnell or the Jackets are over-valuing him compared to the rest of the league.

Columbus: Downtown: Arena District Developments and News
DarkandStormy replied to CMH_Downtown's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionIt does look deceptively easy in that photo. But there's two freeways (315 & 670), a freight rail line and the Olentangy River between the two. https://www.google.com/maps/place/Arena+District,+Columbus,+OH/@39.9703736,-83.0308163,14z/data=!4m5!3m4!1s0x88388f2467d91b67:0x3d091c0b63848aa9!8m2!3d39.9689594!4d-83.0052508?hl=en If only we could utilize previously existing freight lines... (then again, the need for a passenger train to go ~1 mile is probably minimal). You would think Nationwide/NRI would push for connecting their corporate headquarters and its soon-to-be only "suburb" office location in Columbus.

Smart Columbus
Not sure how putting in smart cars (which don't even yet exist completely, if I'm not mistaken) in Linden/Easton area suddenly supplants the need for 2m+ people in the metro area to have a better public transit option besides COTA.

I saw something somewhere, but don't remember where - maybe a tweet or a meme - but anyway it said Crossfit is like Fight Club if the rules were the exact opposite. I've heard this as well. Other similar groups or "clubs" I have heard are people with rescue pets, vegans, and I can't remember a couple of the others now.

What are you watching?
I wish there was more, but holy crap Bo Burnham's one hour special "Make Happy" was simply amazing. Whether or not you are familiar with Bo's previous work, this was a very introspective/outrospective look at entertainment today and the relationship between entertainer and audience. The last 15 or so minutes are utterly brilliant and a very fitting farewell to this stage of his career. In my opinion, Bo is on another level from any other comedian we've seen in a long, long time. I ended my viewing the first time full of laughs but also some serious questions to think about, and have rewatched several times. We'll never know how truly honest any performer is on stage, but I have a feeling this was about as close as we'll ever see to true honesty, especially the monologue before the final song. There are just so many deep meanings and so much his lyrics represent, both for the audience but especially with him as an entertainer. It was so well done.

NBA: General News & Discussion
^Hopeful like Believeland points out, that the Warriors potentially have some chemistry issues a la LeBron's first year in Miami. There's still only one ball on the court, but the Dubs will have some serious 3 point fire power now. Will KD be ok as a catch-and-shoot guy rather than hero ball with him and Westbrook? He'll get a lot of open looks with their spacing on offense. He's also a vastly improved defender and can guard multiple positions. Never know what will happen, but that starting 5 looks insane. They have lost nearly all of their other players, though.
