NHL: General News & Discussion
^Personally, I think Vegas will be too similar to Phoenix. I think Seattle would be a much better fit...but they never submitted a bid. After the buzz of having a team in Vegas, I can see that franchise struggling. They've been consistent on wanting an even 16/16 split, and there are a couple avenues to get there. Wait a couple years, and hope Seattle gets their act together. Perhaps KC would jump in? The NHL could also put a team in Quebec or Toronto and then relocate the Panthers or Hurricanes out west.

K Love has to go. TWO points?? For a max player? Kyrie and LeBron had more points last night (41) than he has ALL SERIES. I have no idea what to expect Thursday. I didn't think the offense was that great in game 5...Kyrie and LeBron hero ball just worked because they hit shots. It was a lot of iso plays, not a ton of movement. It worked for a game, I just don't think it can work for 3 straight. Need some better ball movement and more guys involved on offense, but hey...if they've got the hot hand(s) again, then do it again.

This does appear to be a promising partnership. State of Ohio hockey attendance record. First year away from the Avalanche...boom Calder Cup. Jarmo and JD are sure to keep drafting well. I'd expect Bjorkstrand, Werenski, and probably Anderson to make the Columbus team out of camp. Outside shot for Kukan, Rychel (if he isn't traded), Milano, and Sedlak. Forsberg or Korpisalo as well if the CBJ bury/buy out McBackup. I'd expect the Monsters to see some new faces via CBJ draftees - Paul Bittner, Keegan Kolesar, Gabriel Carlsson, Markus Nutivaara, to name a few.

Ah, the irony if not realizing the CBJ drafted 90+% of the players who contributed to the Calder Cup run.

The 4th quarter offense was atrocious on Friday. Stagnant, stagnant, stagnant. I thought Love played well in that first half - hustling, playing really well on D, etc. I assume GS will just plug Iguodola into the starting lineup on LeBron, which means Barnes is their 4. He would give Love issues but he's on the defender Green is. Shumpert has no business being on the floor. Can't shoot and he was blowing defensive assignments. This team is maddening - some times they understand if they're trapping, switching, etc. and then other times they are in no man's land and Thompson/Curry are WIDE open. I don't get it.

I might stop supporting the team if they trade down from #3 - plenty of rumors swirling now, but I suspect it's all part of the pre-draft "game."

Columbus Blue Jackets Discussion
^The issue will be roster space. The current roster is riddled with overpaid, aging players who will be difficult to move until the expansion draft (2017 most likely). Assuming no one wants to pay for Tyutin's slow *** (pardon me), then I'd expect management will have to buy him out. Torts has said multiple times he appreciates his effort but he's just too slow. A buyout would also save some cap space. Unfortunately Prout will still be on the blue line, but I could live with Murray-Jones, Johnson-Savard, Werenski-Goloubef/Kukan with Prout as an extra. It sounds like Clarkson is dealing with his own career-threatening back problems (ironic). The best bet there is he just goes on IR in perpetuity. Bourque obviously isn't getting resigned. They should be able to insert Pool Party (presumed #3 pick) from day 1. Bjorkstrand is an NHL player RIGHT NOW. The team should also just bury Boll in Cleveland, opening up a 4th line spot for Josh Anderson or Kerby Rychel. Ideally - Tyutin is traded/bought out. Clarkson goes on IR. McElhinney and Boll go to the AHL. I can see the case for a Hartnell trade - he still has value - but also understand if they can't get FMV for him given his age and contract length. I hope Sedlak or Chaput give Campbell a run for his money for that 4th center spot. Campbell is so bad, I don't know why he was even signed. Cap will get interesting if the NHLPA doesn't elect the 5% escalator. Center will be interesting to watch - they don't have a true #1, but can Dubi/Wennberg/Jenner be enough? They're all good #2 options in my view, but I understand the temptation to throw Savard, Rychel, + a pick at someone and try to pry a 1b type center (Nugent-Hopinks, for exampble). They are still going to need Foligno to at least produce closer to 50 points, Jenner to repeat what he did (is it sustainable?), and Wennberg to develop more of his offensive game. I'd go in with the plan to start Bob for 55ish games and Korpisalo 27ish games. If Bob isn't healthy / can't hack it then hand the reigns to Korpi (or Forsberg if he can ever get his act together with the big club).

Cleveland Cavs Discussion
Cavs are 3-4 in the Finals against GS without Love. 0-2 with him. Coincidence? He's just a bad matchup against GS. He's great against 28 other teams, but Draymond is quicker/more athletic than him. Now that he's skinny K Love, he's lost some of his strength inside too. I'd bring him off the bench and try to get him a favorable matchup against someone not named Green.

Cleveland Cavs Discussion
I didn't say they want small the whole game, but they did counter quite a bit with their own "small" lineup in which Ibaka, more of a PF, played center, and Durant played at the 4 even though he's more of a true 3. But because Ibaka and Durant have the athleticism of some smaller guys, their length caused issues for GS in the WCF. I have no clue what Lue's gameplan was/is. I'm not sure the answer lies on the current roster. Last year, losing Love and Irving provided clarity - the Cavs were going to have to grind it out and win on their defense and LeBron. They did that for a couple games. Having Irving and Love means they are caught in the middle with crappy defense but also too many guys wanting to be "the guy" on offense. They aren't doing a good job of going big as you said, but they don't have the horses to go small. I don't know what the answer is. The Warriors seem to have a response for everything so far.

Cleveland Cavs Discussion
OKC still went "small" though, they just have two super versatile guys in Ibaka and Durant who have length. The only player the Cavs have that can match up with the length and athleticism as a "small" 4-5 is LeBron. Kyrie is a huge problem. He's a series-worst -36 in +/-. He has more turnovers than assists. And he's shooting a whopping 33% through 2 games. He's atrocious on defense on he's been bad on offense.

What has reigned supreme in the NBA the last several years? Ball movement. Spurs in '14, the Dubs last year, the Dubs this year. The Cavs offense has been sooooo stagnant (they were better the first three series), but seriously...playground hero ball isn't going to beat the Warriors. It's the old-fashioned, minimum 5 passes rule that needs implemented. They will get better looks if they had more chemistry and ball movement, and that isn't going to suddenly appear in 48 hours. Cleveland is toast. Perhaps LeBron's sheer will can pick them up a W at home but Golden State has this on lock.

Kryie kills possessions sometimes. GS was/is just deeper. Lue rode his main 5 for way too long. Game 2 is a virtual must win. They pretty much have to win 4 of the net 5 anyway - game 7 in Oakland? No way that's happening. So they have to win it in 6, which means winning 4 of the next 5. If they shake off some "rust" or whatever you want to call it and hit shots, it'll be a much closer game. Is the NBA still fining guys for flopping? GS has two of the best in Green and Andy. Those two should be paying up today but I doubt the NBA cracks down on that in the Finals.
