42-stories?! ? Seriously though, just because it will have twice the capacity (which I'm assuming means twice the beds) doesn't automatically mean it will be twice the size. I'm not familiar with what all is in the James, but in theory half of the existing building could be office space that won't need to be replicated in the new building. Regardless, it's going to be a very large building.

Is that elevator core to the left topped out, or does it still have one more floor to go? The building is going to have quite a presence when driving down 670. I can't wait to see what Hilton 2.0 and Market Tower will look like.

Not only is there room for more residents, but if they could get this up to ~10 floors, the views of downtown, the Short North, and even campus would be amazing and fairly unique.

This process has actually been surprisingly smooth, so far, compared to other stadium projects (i.e. Cincinnati and Nashville).

This project is giving LC a run for its money in the "how long can it possibly take to build a 8-10 story apartment building" competition.

I have an odd obsession with finding old pictures of current buildings throughout Columbus while they were under construction. Here are some that I've found through the library's digital photo collection. I'm not even overly worried about the design. Obviously, I always want the best possible design, but this isn't really a highly trafficked area of downtown and the trees that line the street hide most of the buildings from the street during the summer months. As an aside, have there ever been any proposals for the Southwest or Southeast corners of the Town/Washington intersection? The Southwest corner specifically would be a great spot for a mid-rise residential as it would offer great views of downtown and Topiary Park.

The article states that the current state of the carriage house is very poor and might require extensive work and very significant expenses to bring it up to code. If it’s really that far gone I don’t mind them demolishing it, but if it can reasonably be saved I would much rather see that route taken.

It seems like it would be pretty difficult to lease a bunch of office space when the building likely won't be complete for another ~2.5 years from the time construction starts. It's pretty difficult for a company to commit to that kind of timeline. I know it's risky and financing can be difficult, but for this to work it seems like they need to just get construction underway and then they can start getting leases signed as construction comes to an end and companies have a more definitive timeline.

I just read that article and thought the exact same thing. If Arshot is serious about this project, they better be giving Quantum Health a call.

Just in case you forgot how much the riverfront and a couple cool bridges improved the overall look of Columbus. The Midwest sunsets don't hurt either. Source

If there's one area of downtown that could handle a grocery store right now, it would be the River South District. I think the population density, especially if Millennial Tower gets built, would be enough to necessitate one. I would guess the River South District is probably the most densely populated area in downtown, with more residential units on the way.

I wonder what other grocery options are in close proximity to downtown Indy. As I said, there 3 or 4 pretty good options just outside of downtown Columbus for someone living downtown. I'm not sure how that compares to Indy. In terms of their downtown population, I have no idea what the number is, but based on my experience their downtown population seems to be a bit higher than Columbus. Indy's downtown area has seen a lot of development in the same way that the Short North has seen a lot of the development in Columbus. Indy doesn't really have a Short North type of area so most of the urban development has occurred in the downtown area.

Not only that, but how many downtown residents are actually living car-free? I can't imagine very many are. If you live downtown and you have a car, there are two Krogers and two Giant Eagles within a 10 minute drive. If you don't have a car, you can get to any one of those grocery stores by bus in about 20-30 minutes. It would obviously be nice if we could get a legit downtown grocery store, but that's just not going to happen until the metrics are there for one of the big chains to feel comfortable diving in.

From the article: Given that the author didn't use a direct quote from Nardone with regard to a European direct flight we should probably take this with a grain of salt, but it sounds promising regardless. Nardone has been working his butt off since he got here, and I'm growing more and more confident that we could have a direct flight to Europe soon. Also, I noticed Southwest just added the daily (well, almost daily) direct flight to Oakland once again. It will be interesting to see how that effects this new United route.
