  1. It seems like CU has really been deteriorating lately. The main reason it was able to grow was because people were interested in urban development and they covered it, but now they seem to be losing that focus. Additionally, Walker is just constantly condescending to his readers. I really don't understand the guy. Regardless, I used to visit that site religiously but now I only go there if I see a link posted here that interests. Otherwise, I can pretty much get all the development news I need (and then some) from Columbus Biz Journal and The Dispatch.
  2. Have you ever heard of designated drivers?
  3. For people living in the suburbs, going to Easton to drink is actually more convenient than go to the SN. It's a shorter drive and parking is free.
  4. I was thinking the same exact thing. The renderings always depicted bricked over windows though, so I'm not sure.
  5. The plan is for the naming rights to go to the anchor tenant, if they can ever lock one down.
  6. "Millennial" Tower is pretty clearly a placeholder name right now.
  7. Patience my friend. There's no way that site sits vacant for much longer.
  8. It's kind of odd that they didn't finish it before dismantling the crane. It seems like having the tower crane would have made it much easier, though I know it's pricey to rent them.
  9. That's not the final siding. If you look at previous construction pictures you will see that the entire building looked like that until they put paneling on it.
  10. Awesome, thanks! It seems like we are about to see a lot of activity pick up all over the place as the weather warms up.
  11. Anyone been past this site recently? Has there been any noticeable activity?
  12. It sure would, although the buildings that have gone up the general vicinity over the last 4 years have provided some great infill. The two Kaufman buildings and the LC buildings created a nice base, but this building would really take it to the next level.
  13. Can we create a new thread where we unnecessarily stress over the fact that we don't have enough buildings over x number stories being built and keep this thread on the topic of Millennial Tower?
  14. I still believe this project will happen. I know some people think that's crazy, but whatever. Now, if only a certain Columbus website who used to have an active forum but decided to close said forum would do some investigative journalism and figure out what the holdup is, I think we would all be very appreciative.
  15. I actually watched the first flight from Seattle land yesterday as I was driving home from work. It's pretty exciting that we are adding more direct flights out west, but like Nardone said, we need to support those flights by buying tickets which I think will happen. So far in 2019, we seem to be off to a good start with passenger volume at both John Glenn and Rickenbacker up ~10% in January. If we can continue this trend throughout the year, which I think is doable with these added flights coming on line, our passenger volume should be close to 9.5 million by year end.
  16. Oh, gotcha. When you said design I thought you were talking more about aesthetics and whatnot, given the "drama" surrounding the LED boards they wanted to use originally.
  17. Weren't the design issues all ironed out with the city? I thought they were supposedly just waiting for an anchor tenant at this point.
  18. Ah yes, you are correct. Buddhism originated in India and I confused myself. Also, 0.7% of India is nearly 10 million people. That's insane.
  19. I don't remember hearing anything about it either, which is odd. I'm sure there are a decent number of Buddhists in Columbus, given the large and growing number of Indians living in the city. Franklinton seems like an odd location for a temple though. Most Indians seem to be out in the suburbs.
  20. It could have been burned down for reasons other than someone being a xenophobe. Perhaps someone who attended had a falling out with one of the leaders and went off the deep end. Maybe someone was drugged up and decided they wanted to burn something down. Maybe someone broke in, stole all the money inside, and then burned the building down to cover their tracks. Maybe a couple bored teenagers just wanted to set something on fire. Who knows. It's odd nonetheless.
  21. Exactly. If you were looking for the absolute worst time to start a construction project, it would be right now. Also, there is a lot of activity going on outside of downtown and the Short North. I know we love to focus on those areas, and rightfully so given that this is mainly an urban development board, but development around the entire city is still important. Heck, there are four tower cranes (that I'm aware of) currently in use outside of downtown and the Short North. There is plenty of stuff in the pipeline and sure, it may not all get built (or at least not at the initially proposed scale....North Market Tower) but there is plenty of stuff to come this year.
  22. Allegiant is adding a twice-weekly seasonal flight to Charleston SC. The flights will run June 7th till August 12th with tickets starting at $49 each way. This addition means Allegiant now connects LCK to 11 different cities. https://www.bizjournals.com/columbus/news/2019/02/12/allegiant-announces-nonstop-flights-to-charleston.html?iana=hpmvp_colum_news_headline
  23. I drove past Easton yesterday on 270 and noticed they were putting up a tower crane in the new expansion area. They seem to working full steam ahead now.
  24. Government buildings in the state capitol are going to happen. Get over the "helping the excitement problem". It's a huge part of the city's economy. The entire River South district, just two blocks away, has popped up out of nowhere as a mixed-use neighborhood in downtown. One government building next to an already existing cluster of government buildings - one of which is a prison - is not going doom downtown Columbus. The inferiority complex is getting old.
