  1. Couldn’t they simply extend the eastern portion? Seems like they could easily add 6-8 gates that direction but you’ve probably seen more details than me and maybe that’s not possible. Regardless, I don’t think we need to be too concerned with expansion yet. We are only just now nearing the 10m capacity with the current terminal. I believe the new capacity will be something like 15m which would be an impressive figure for a non-hub/focus city airport in a non-vacation area with our general population. For some context, STL hovers around 15m and they have the luxury of being a former hub and a current focus city for SW. RDU is also hovering around 15m largely due to their status as a focus city for Delta.
  2. Oh I didn’t realize there would be two international gates. That’s great to hear. Hopefully the Toronto route can get back up to where it used to be and maybe we can even add a MTL route. Couple those with at least one route to Europe as well as flights to Cancun and maybe even one more Caribbean destination and those gates should be plenty busy.
  3. Thanks! I'm not sure I would take this as confirmation of a direct route to Europe on the horizon as they would be dumb to not design a new terminal without the capability to a larger plane at a least one gate. As I've said before though, I think it's reasonable to assume we'll see at least one route announced by the time the new terminal opens. EDIT: It also looks like they have plans for a decent sized lounge. That's great to see.
  4. What plans are you talking about? Can you post a link/screenshot?
  5. Yea it's this project: https://ohiohome.org/ppd/proposals/2023/NewAffordabilityWithin/ArtemOnGay.pdf
  6. I’m so annoyed there’s no construction cam. Also, did we finally get our first crane jump?
  7. I wouldn't put much stock in the architectural design in those renderings. This is the descriptor on the webpage: "This brief massing and visualization exercise was to enable Edwards Companies to share their speculative vision for a key area of downtown Columbus."
  8. According to their website, there are currently 88 available units. So you aren't too far off. https://www.prestoncentrecolumbus.com/interactivepropertymap I'm not really up-to-date on the going rate for downtown apartments, but $2k/month for a 689 sq/ft apartment seems just a tad high for this part of downtown at this point in time.
  9. That's my guess. It might even include the surface lot on the east side of Fourth Street in front of the Capitol Plaza parking garage monstrosity. They state the project encompasses nearly 10 acres. The entire lot the statehouse sits on is almost 10 acres exactly, but the buildings/surface lots encompassed by Capital St., 4th St., State St., and 3rd St. is definitely smaller than statehouse lot. If you add in that surface lot in front of the parking garage though you probably get pretty close to 10 acres.
  10. Wow, that sounds like a massive project. Time to do some sleuthing to get more details on the plans.

    Awesome!
  12. That building has literally never existed in my life. You must be old 😉 lol

    Great news!
  14. They do have space in the room to add at least 4 more machines, maybe even 6. Hopefully they can manage to do that for the next presidential election.
  15. The Groveport location was very well staffed and everyone was very well behaved, at least when I was there. There were just too many voters.
  16. I voted in Groveport as well. Got there at about 7:45 and didn't get back in my car until 8:45. When I left, the line was even longer than when I had arrived. The poll workers seemed to have things moving very efficiently. I think it was as simple as turnout being extremely high for the number of machines available at the site. Where was the old polling location?
  17. Saw this posted on r/Columbus. Looks like the elevator core is about as tall as Hilton 1.0. https://www.reddit.com/media?url=https%3A%2F%2Fpreview.redd.it%2Fh5g9o4y1esyd1.jpg%3Fwidth%3D2108%26format%3Dpjpg%26auto%3Dwebp%26s%3D7af0a3bad194d8eb8805deb6f51bc6383fcf889e
  18. Meh, they can do what they want. Is it annoying? Absolutely. But as long as they aren't doing anything illegal or in opposition to the local zoning, they should be able to engage in whatever religious or political activity they see fit. What's far more annoying is the surface lot that exists literally next door to this building. Or the surface lots along 3rd. The fact that those still exist is infuriating.
  19. Broad Street Bagels & Deli is closing for good today. This note is posted at the top of their website: "Due to external circumstances, Broad Street Bagels and Deli will unfortunately be permanently closing on Oct. 31st, 2024. We have enjoyed being a part of this amazing community and we thank you for your love and support." According to The Dispatch, the owner of the building, Zion Christian Fellowship, was not interested in re-upping the lease as they have "other plans" for the space: https://www.dispatch.com/story/entertainment/dining/2024/10/01/broad-street-bagels-deli-faces-threat-closure-downtown-columbus/75408173007/
  20. Their population has grown by about 15,000 over the past ~20 years, so clearly a lot of people have found it to be an acceptable place to live. Its population density and rate of growth over the past 15 or so years has been very similar to Dublin.
  21. And that's just sporting events. The stadium hosts all kinds of concerts and other entertainment events throughout the year. It's been an incredible investment for the city/state. Indy has become a go-to city for big time events largely because of the stadium. Without that, Indy would hardly be known for anything other than a place that has a car race once a year and is obsessed with high school basketball.
  22. It looks like things are in motion for the Capital Line project. https://portal.columbus.gov/Permits/Cap/CapDetail.aspx?Module=Engineering&TabName=Engineering&capID1=24CIP&capID2=00000&capID3=00016&agencyCode=COLUMBUS&IsToShowInspection=
  23. I could flush my toilet, run down to the train station, hop on the train, and watch my turd float by.
  24. I'm flying out tomorrow. I can't wait to see how much work is underway. I also have a trip scheduled in November and one in December so it should be cool watching the progress.
