Columbus: Hotels, Conventions and Tourism News & Info
It does seem like it should be more. Maybe we'll see a higher number reported in future articles. From http://www.dispatch.com/news/20180325/ncaa-womens-final-four-four-day-party-plus-basketball-games Nationwide Arena’s capacity for basketball is 19,804. ... Of the 80,000 people the four-day event is expected to attract, 30,000 will come from outside Central Ohio. That seems like a much more reasonable number.

Columbus: Downtown: Convention Center / North Market Area Developments and News
cbussoccer replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & Construction^ I would love to see a rendering with Market Tower thrown in there as well. This is really going to expand our skyline when you are looking from the East or West.

Columbus: Downtown: Convention Center / North Market Area Developments and News
cbussoccer replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & Constructionhttps://i1.wp.com/www.columbusunderground.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/hotel-cutaway.jpg?w=1300&ssl=1 According to this picture, it looks like they are planning for the building to be ~300 feet tall. So within a couple years we could have a new 300 foot tower right across the street from a new 400 foot tower. I'll take it. Someone needs to do some mock-ups of what the skyline could look like in 5-6 years with all of these news developments.

Columbus: Downtown: Merchant Building
So....does anyone have any knowledge on when we might see this project moving forward?

Columbus: Downtown: Convention Center / North Market Area Developments and News
cbussoccer replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionAwesome! The article states the building will be ~300 feet tall. If built at that height, we could potentially end up with a 300 foot tower, and two 400 foot towers (I think Millennial Tower will be 400 feet) being constructed at the same time. We haven't seen this level of development in terms of taller towers since the late 1980s.

Columbus: Hotels, Conventions and Tourism News & Info
I have a hard time believing the Women's Final Four will only attract 16,000 visitors. The arena holds 19,000, and there will be four different teams there. Assuming OSU isn't in the Final Four, I don't see how there aren't more than 16,000 visitors.

Columbus: Downtown: Convention Center / North Market Area Developments and News
cbussoccer replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionFor context the Hilton Canopy tower crane is 233' tall for the building which will be 157' tall. The Hyatt is 256' tall already, so they may just be moving something to the roof. Also, it just says "crane", not "tower crane". Could definitely be a precursor to Hyatt expansion. According to The Dispatch article posted in the Convention Center thread, I'm going to have to assume this is for the new Hilton expansion which I'm thinking will be similar in height to the Hyatt.

Columbus: Short North Developments and News
cbussoccer replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionWow, all the pictures you posted are awesome. It really gives you a good sense of the immense amount of development that is going downtown and in the surrounding area. It's quite impressive. I think someone with much more time on their hands than me should do us all a favor and try to find "before" pictures from about 10 years ago for all of these angles just so we can see how much things have changed. I think it would be pretty interesting to see.

cbussoccer replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionPics or it didn't happen. It's up and running. Oh yea baby! I can't wait to drive East down 670 later today and see how it looks. I saw it sticking up like a toothpick yesterday. It's pretty cool that we have these three cranes all clustered around each other, even if it's just for a short period of time.

Columbus: Downtown: 80 on the Commons
^ I don't believe the black exterior you see in the picture is actually the final external layer. I believe there is still a finishing layer that will go on it. I could be wrong though.

Columbus: Downtown Developments and News
^ The complaints about a development in the downtown area blocking someone else's views is quite humorous. You are probably correct that we will hear some more of those as taller developments start being proposed. Apparently the 273' number was a typo.... Also, the article states that construction could be underway by the end of the year. If things go really well for this project, Market Tower, and Millennial Tower, we could see all of those under construction at the same time. It looks like our skyline is going to be seeing a lot of changes over the next couple years.

Columbus: Random Development and News
cbussoccer replied to Summit Street's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionThe article states that all of the projects currently under construction or approved will add over 3,000 new residents to downtown. That is insane when you consider that the downtown area only had around 3,000 total residents in 2000. If we keep moving at the current rate, we should hit 15,000 downtown residents fairly soon I imagine.

Columbus: Downtown Developments and News
Yea, I just read that in the Biz First article. That's taller than the North Bank Condos and only about 15 feet shorter than the Motorists building. Let's hope it gets built at least at the proposed height.

Columbus: Downtown Developments and News
I really think this area of downtown is going to take off. It's practically a blank slate with so many surface lots and 1-2 story buildings, many of which are abandoned. I think this area has a really good possibility of turning into a largely residential neighborhood with mostly mid-rise buildings, kind of like an extension of what we have seen along High in the River South District.

cbussoccer replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionTime to replace it with a new crane I suppose. I imagine there will probably be two new ones in the Short North before too long.

cbussoccer replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionThe updated Google Street Views as of October, 2017 are a pretty good look at the mostly finished phase 1 of the Bridge Street District. https://www.google.com/maps/@40.0996186,-83.1105306,3a,39.3y,34.5h,95.92t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sx--1rdjUkfHBBI82dEAXcg!2e0!7i13312!8i6656?hl=en

Children's hospital has generally used tower cranes, even when there is space to operate with a crawler crane. https://www.google.com/maps/@39.9522714,-82.9839419,3a,75y,50.52h,95.65t/data=!3m7!1e1!3m5!1sBKCPv4SNMOpOdB1uW0eeAg!2e0!5s20110601T000000!7i13312!8i6656?hl=en https://www.google.com/maps/@39.9524141,-82.9875668,3a,75y,337.16h,96.15t/data=!3m7!1e1!3m5!1swvs_imKJxvunoaJEMzUziQ!2e0!5s20160801T000000!7i13312!8i6656?hl=en

Columbus: Downtown: Grant Hospital Redevelopments
Looks like we'll see another tower crane soon - the tower crane base has been installed for the garage project. I was just wondering about this yesterday. Those pesky tower cranes just can't leave Columbus alone can they? ;) May we be cursed with more and more of them. :) The curse seems to have no end in sight! The View on Pavey Square was also approved for a tower crane. Now if only we could figure out if/when a tower crane will go up for the 9-story Behavioral Health Pavilion at Children's Hospital and the parking garage that is being built with it.
