  1. I posted this comment over in the Hilton Canopy thread on accident, but it's reassuring to hear that we will hear more about this project in early 2018 and that it won't be reduced in size to a mid-rise. Hopefully we will get a groundbreaking for this tower by the end of the year and also find out the final decision on Millennial Tower.
  2. Although this isn't the Market Tower thread, it was reassuring to read at the end of this article that we will get more news on the tower in early 2018, and the height won't be reduced to a mid-rise building.
  3. I always see comments about how Columbus benefits immensely from having OSU, one of largest universities in the country (for a main campus at least), but I rarely see anyone make the point that OSU also benefits from being located in Columbus. In reality, I think both benefit from each other greatly. OSU provides Columbus with a constant supply of a young educated workforce while Columbus provides OSU with a constant supply of internships/jobs for students, as well as an attractive urban setting that is easy to navigate to become comfortable with.
  4. I think both of the ongoing LC developments are really good, they are just taking forever. The buildings are very well designed and very intricate. I know we don't want 8-story buildings to be taking 3 years to complete, but the design is very good and I think the finished product will be excellent. Highpoint is definitely disappointing from a design perspective, but the substance is pretty decent in terms of bringing a large number of new residents to the area as well as restaurant/retail space. Personally think they should have broke up the Highpoint land among two or three different developers. That would have encouraged more variation in design and potentially taller and bolder architecture. So, long story short, I don't think there is a CDDC issue.
  5. ^ I noticed the same thing. I drove north on Grant yesterday, and this building looked huge. Although it's an odd design, I kind of like it. It's also quite noticeable while driving along 670.
  6. I drove by today and it looks like ground has been broke for the parking garage at Rich and Grant.
  7. ^ I was just stating that a 15-story building would be very doable there with existing parking if they felt like going that route. I agree with you though, I'm thinking the third building will probably be somewhere in the 8-10 story range. Burnham Square is 7-8 stories, 8-10 would be a good transition. I will be very interested to see how they design the façade though. Is it going to be all glass like the three buildings on Spring, or will it be brick like the rest of the Arena District. Also, I'm wondering if anything will end up going on the surface lots or the vacant grass lot that are between Nationwide Blvd and Spring, west of Neil. Those lots would be a great place for some 20+ story buildings like the North Bank Condo building. The views of downtown would be great there.
  8. If the new garage has 325 spaces, and Park's Edge 1 and 2 have a combined 150 units, and you allocate 1.5 parking spots per unit, that means there are still 100 spaces available. With 100 spaces available, they could put around 60 units in the third building if you want to continue allocating 1.5 spaces per unit. If the third building contains 60 units, that would put it close to the 69 units that Park's Edge 1 has. Park's Edge 1 is 12-stories tall, but it is a long building. The piece of land available for the third building is a smaller square when compared to the plot of land Park's Edge 1 was built on. As a result, I don't think it's out of the question to think a 15+ story building would be built there.
  9. Thanks for the heads up on that - I've been waiting for awhile :) Someday they'll also update the 3d imagery again The 3D imagery is like 4 years outdated haha
  10. ^ I just noticed that! I've been messing around with it to distract myself from work haha.
  11. ^ I completely agree! I'm not so sure a grocery store will go in there just because I don't know how the market will handle one given that there is a convenience store right around the corner.
  12. Yep, I saw them taking it down on Saturday. I would imagine we would hear something soon as long as the two River's Edge buildings are leasing well. I'm hoping the next building will include some type of mixed-use space. I think a restaurant right there on the park could do very well. Also, I'm hoping the next building pushes 15-20 stories, but I won't hold my breath. I'm guessing it will probably be around the 8-10 story range to stay consistent with the other buildings lining the park.
  13. I actually walked by those buildings on Saturday. It looks a lot of work has been done on the inside of the Trautman building, at least from what I saw on the first floor. It almost seems like the inside will be finished before the exterior is finished.
  14. Something really needs to be built on the grass lot between the Julian and the courthouse building. Does anyone know who owns that lot currently?
  15. It's about time they go vertical! Can't wait to see the finished product!
  16. The UDF development, while only 3 (or 4?) stories tall, is going to be such an improvement on the disgusting building and surface lot that was there before. I'm so excited for both the Haiku and the Wood/Schiff developments. Adding office and hotel space to the Short North is going to turn it into a more 24 hour district rather than an afternoon/evening district. Additionally, I like the design of both buildings so I'm excited to see the finished product.
  17. I think I preferred the very front of the building in the initial plan, but overall I definitely prefer this update. It fits with neighborhood much better. The initial plan would have been much better for the River South district downtown.
  18. ^ Completely agree. I think people will be pleasantly surprised once this is built out. I think this will also bring about some taller developments, assuming it's a success.
  19. Kind of disappointing that the 30-story buildings are going up, at least not right away, but I still think this is going to be a great project for the downtown area. If this phase of development is successful, I wouldn't be surprised at all to see a couple 20+ story buildings go up a couple more years down the road.
  20. ^ I think light rail/commuter rail lines connecting Springfield, Delaware, Newark, and Lancaster to downtown Columbus would be huge for the region. There is a surprising number of people who travel fairly long distances to work downtown. I know of many people who travel to downtown Columbus from as afar away as Dayton, Logan, Nelsonville, and Zanesville every day. Those people spend a great deal of time in the car and large amount of money on gas. If someone from Nelsonville could just drive to Lancaster and then catch the train to downtown, it would save them a lot of money and possibly save them some time. I believe the corridor between Columbus and Newark (Broad Street to Pataskala, and then following Route 16 to Granville and then to Newark) would be the best place to start. East Broad Street is very densely populated for a suburban area, and there is a large number of immigrants in the area who do not drive. Mount Carmel East is also located on East Broad so it would connect a hospital to downtown and to places much further east. There is a large number of warehouses that have popped up in the Pataskala area (Amazon being one of them), so this could provide people in the lower income neighborhoods along Broad Street to a large number of jobs that pay pretty well for the level of qualification they require. Additionally, this would connect downtown Columbus to Dennison University.
  21. This looks like a great project. It looks like it will mesh well with the rest of the neighborhood and will actually provide a net gain in parking.
  22. There is a Phase 2? I had no idea. Also, how big is that garage going to be? I don't see any room at Lincoln and Pearl for a parking garage unless they demolish existing buildings. http://www.columbusunderground.com/new-short-north-office-building "The companies announced this afternoon that they plan to construct a new 11-story office building at 711 North High Street, replacing an existing public parking lot owned by the City of Columbus. The project is being referred to as a public-private partnership with the city, as the existing 45 public parking spaces will be replaced with 125 publicly-available parking spaces in the form of a new garage a block east at the northeast intersection of Lincoln and Pearl." "The new parking garage located at the intersection of Lincoln and Pearl will sit in Italian Village, and will also include residences facing Lincoln Street to integrate with the existing fabric of the neighborhood." Ah I see it now. Initially, when I read Pearl I though Park Street in my head. So the parking garage is going to be built right here: https://www.google.com/maps/place/724+N+Pearl+St+Parking/@39.9772207,-83.0022977,122a,35y,357.45h/data=!3m1!1e3!4m5!3m4!1s0x88388ed7a256d04d:0xaa089802420b96e!8m2!3d39.9772691!4d-83.0024258?hl=en

  24. This is quite the stretch. Self-driving cars are actually a reality (though not a large scale yet) while flying cars were never a feasible reality. I'm not trying to say we should pushing self-driving vehicles as the new form of public transportation instead of established forms of transportation such as rail or a well defined bus system. At the same time, we shouldn't completely close ourselves off the possibility of self-driving vehicles being the legitimate future of public transportation.
  25. ^ Awesome! That building is going to be huge, I can't wait to see the designs that are put forward.
