Columbus: Short North Developments and News
cbussoccer replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionIt really is pretty large. You can see the top of it from 670. 711 N High looks enormous from 670 judging by the elevator shafts that have topped out. I will be interested to see what the Haiku site will look like from 670.

^ Agreed! Hopefully this will encourage some development on the surface lots in this area as well.

Columbus: Downtown: AC Hotel - Park & Spruce
Columbus Underground has an article stating the three bars impacted by this development are closing this weekend. The article doesn't specify, but I would imagine this means the development is finally going to break ground. http://www.columbusunderground.com/three-park-street-bars-closing-this-weekend

cbussoccer replied to Summit Street's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & Construction^ Unfortunately I think you might need to get closer to 10 stories to get a decent view of the river. The Federal Court building kinda blocks the view up to a certain height. https://www.google.com/maps/@39.96579,-83.0045403,59a,35y,189.27h,78.97t/data=!3m1!1e3?hl=en

Columbus: Random Development and News
cbussoccer replied to Summit Street's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionI'm really hoping NRI announces plans to redevelop this spot soon. I think a mix of hotel and residential use would work very well here. Hopefully we could see something in the 12-15 story range at the very least.

Columbus Crew Discussion
It would have been better if the Crew could've gotten one of those second half chances into the back of the net. But on the other hand, they didn't have any defensive mess-ups and prevented Toronto from getting a road goal. So the Crew aren't in a bad position going up to Toronto. Below is the scoring chart for game #2. If game #2 ends 0-0, then its extra time. If the Crew win or tie (other than 0-0), they advance to MLS Cup. If Toronto wins, they advance to MLS Cup. The most difficult part of next week's game is that Toronto gets Giovinco and Altidore back from their suspensions and the Crew lost Artur to a yellow-card suspension for the match. However, its likely to be a more open-style match, since Toronto won't be defensively "parking the bus" like they did in Columbus. And the Crew tend to play better when its an open-style match. So it's a fairly equal chance with a slight edge to Toronto next week. The next game should much more exciting for neutrals watching game, and very nerve-wracking for the fans of either game. It's definitely going to be an open game. Toronto is going to be much more comfortable going forward which should open them up at the back. Keeping Giovinco and Altidore scoreless will be next to impossible, but I'm fairly confident we can manage at least one goal.

Columbus Crew Discussion
I still think the 560 W. Nationwide Boulevard site - detailed at https://www.urbanohio.com/forum/index.php/topic,7699.msg824545.html#msg824545 - is the more likely downtown location for a new Crew Stadium. Mostly because the site is prepped for development and owner by NRI, who should be a willing seller/partner. But I've heard about this Abbott-owned location before. And I'd love to see exactly what the Columbus Foundation has proposed there, planning-wise. In many ways, this site would be a greater improvement and would have more spin-off developments then NRI's 560 W. Nationwide Boulevard site. Ultimately, even if this Abbott site doesn't go forward, I agree that its well-timed for today's playoff game to get a dialogue going and show the national media that Columbus does want to save the Crew - even beyond the amazing #SaveTheCrew movement. I would be thrilled with either site, but I think this site has a couple positives that the W. Nationwide site doesn't have. This site seems like it would be much more accessible from the highways given it's proximity to 3rd, 4th, and Spring Streets. Pregame and Postgame traffic would probably flow much better with this location. The W. Nationwide site is located at a dead and would probably take much more infrastructure work to make feasible than this location would. Also, as you mentioned, this could also be a great way to encourage more development in this area of downtown. Being able to connect Columbus State to the Arena District would be great for the CSCC and the city. I think this current plan, as it stands, is a long shot but the fact that we have powerful people willing to step out with a plan like this is a promising sign.

Columbus: Short North Developments and News
cbussoccer replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionThey've got a ton done on this already, kind of shocking. I assume they started yesterday but man what progress! Looks like we will be adding another crane to the Short North skyline soon!

Columbus: Downtown: Arena District Developments and News
cbussoccer replied to CMH_Downtown's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionNow that the second Park's Edge Tower is topped out (or close to it), I wonder if we will be getting an announcement about the "future phase" portion of the master plan. It would be nice if we could see something in the 20-story range, similar to the North Bank condos, but I wouldn't hold my breath. Has anyone heard any rumors?

I drove past this site about 5 days ago and noticed the base of the tower crane was in place. Does anyone know if the crane has gone up since then?

Columbus: Downtown: Discovery District / Warehouse District / CSCC / CCAD Developments and News
cbussoccer replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionAgreed. But it shouldn't take much tweaking to integrate the ground floor with the rest of the building (which looks pretty good). That's why we have a Downtown Commission with design review authority. I agree about the rest of the building being pretty good. I wish they would add some ground floor retail. It's much needed, especially on a street like Broad with the number of huge office buildings.

Columbus: Downtown: Millennial Tower
Awesome! Great to see the reduced video screen size. I'm beginning to feel pretty confident that this will actually happen. It's pretty crazy that we might have a 28-story building and a 35-story building added to the skyline within the next ~3 years as well as a couple 20 to 30-story buildings added within the next ~10 years, and that's just what we know about so far.....

Columbus: Downtown: Canopy by Hilton
I drove by this site yesterday and noticed there is finally work being done. The site was cleared a couple months ago but then had been sitting idle. As of yesterday, construction equipment was onsite and drilling was taking place. Hopefully a crane will be in place soon and we will start seeing some vertical progress.

cbussoccer replied to CMH_Downtown's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionThere are a couple pictures in this Peletonia Slideshow on Columbus Business First that show the second Park's Edge building's progress. It looks like they are about halfway done with the 7th floor now. https://www.bizjournals.com/columbus/news/2017/08/05/photos-pelotonia-2017-kicks-off-from-the-arena.html#g68

Columbus: Downtown: RiverSouth Developments and News
cbussoccer replied to CMH_Downtown's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionThat trailer has been there for at least a month, maybe more. I think the trailer says Danis, which is a construction company in Columbus. When I first noticed the trailer there, I thought that maybe (hopefully!!) it is related to the Millennial Tower project, but I think it's just as likely that it's being used for one of the other projects nearby. The one reason I think it might be related to the Millennial Tower project is because it is taking up parking spaces in the surface lot which, I believe, is owned by Arshot. So either someone is paying Arshot some decent money to leave that trailer there, or it's actually for the Millennial Tower project.

Columbus: Scioto Peninsula Developments and News
cbussoccer replied to StuFoote's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionI definitely wouldn't have been mad if this was the selected proposal, but the fact that it was (according to someone on reddit) passed over for a seemingly better proposal is very exciting. I can't wait to get the official announcement.

Columbus: Downtown: 80 on the Commons
So I don't think I've seen this mentioned anywhere here, but it appears this project has a new name: "80 on the Commons". http://www.80onthecommons.com/ I drove past tonight and it appears the steel framing is six-stories high and they should be starting on the seventh-story very soon. I entered downtown from 70 on the east side traveling west, and it is just now tall enough to see when driving over the bridge into downtown.

Columbus: Scioto Peninsula Developments and News
cbussoccer replied to StuFoote's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionI think the person who posted on Reddit that Crawford Hoying lost the bid is probably correct given that the website has been taken down. I'm guessing the website was part of their pitch and once they found out they weren't awarded the project they took it down. I'm hoping this means that they have chosen a developer and we will get an announcement within the next couple days.

US, Ohio construction cranes inventory
I'm actually counting 12 in the campus/SN/downtown area. There was also a crane at Mt. Carmel East last time I drive by a couple weeks ago as well as 2 cranes in Grove City at the new Mt. Carmel hospital off of 71. So that brings the total 15. I also think there will probably be about 3 more cranes going up around the downtown area soon: one at the old Swan Cleaner's sight on High, one at the 12-story hotel that will go up on Nationwide, and one (maybe 2) at the 9-story Behavioral Health Pavilion at Children's hospital. At any rate, I wouldn't believe that map.

Columbus Crew Discussion
^^^ To your point about Cincinnati expansion spelling the end for the Crew, I think that's a bit overstated. First, the Crew aren't all doom and gloom like everyone has made them out to be. The attendance has not been good so far this season, but it's always a struggle in the first half of the season (and not just in Columbus). We have to deal with crappy weather almost every game and we even got stuck with two mid-week games before the kids even got out of school for the summer. On top of that, we play in the worst stadium in the league (ok, DC is probably worse but they are building a new one) in a crappy part of Columbus where we have to pay $15 to park and it takes an hour to get out of the freaking parking lot after the game. With all that being said, Columbus has seen an increased average attendance every season since 2011 when our attendance bottomed out. Last season we averaged over 17k people per game. Not only have some argued that the team needs a new stadium, but the front office is actively working on a new stadium plan. When that stadium is built (assuming they actually put it in a nice area) there is no doubt in my mind that the team will sellout every game if the capacity is 18-19k. On top of all of that, FCC is still a minor league team and the tickets are priced accordingly. I know this argument gets thrown around a lot and it makes Cincy people a bit upset (understandably), but it's an important fact to keep in mind. The final point of my rambling post is that there is no need for MLS to relocate or fold the Crew. They have plenty of spaces available for more teams, in-state rivalries are great for TV ratings, and relocating/folding the team before they can build a new stadium is gamble because they could end up missing out on something great. Columbus is consistently a top-5/top-10 city in the country in terms of national TV ratings for soccer broadcasts. The demographics are obviously there in the city, people just don't want to waste their money going to a high school football stadium with metal bleachers where they have to pay $15 to park in dirt in sit in traffic for an hour before they even get on 71.

Columbus: Downtown: The Pierce
Yea, I'm sure you are right about the developers website being a bit out of date although that still seems odd to me. The main reason I was questioning the 9-story height was because the CU article said it was a proposed change, but I never saw a report saying the proposal was accepted. I'm not sure how that proposal process works because they had already had the 7-story proposal approved. Regardless it's under construction right now and I'm excited to see the finished project, especially that red exterior!
