  1. Totally agree! But if you are going to call it a tower, make it a legit tower lol. But yea, we’ve the number of 10-15 story builds we’ve seen pop up just in the last five years has been awesome to see and I don’t think it’s going to slow down anytime soon.
  2. I guess that's why they are calling it the Dispatch Tower, although I wish they would go 20+ stories and really make it a legit tower.
  3. It says the garage levels will contain "amenity uses" as well "live work units", so it seems there will be something on the ground floor aside from just parking. I completely agree though. There has to be some commercial space at the street level.

I'm not sure which thread this fits best in, so I'm dropping it here, but I just came across a New Structure Application for a 12-story building at 33 S 4th Street between the YWCA and the PNC tower. https://portal.columbus.gov/Permits/Default.aspx THIS PROJECT IS A HIGH RISE, MULTI-FAMILY BUILDING AND IS LOCATED AT 33 SOUTH 4TH STREET COLUMBUS, OH. E. THE SITE IS BOUNDED BY CAPITAL STREET (NORTH), YMCA BUILDING (SOUTH), S. 4TH STREET (EAST), AND LAZELLE STREET (WEST). THIS BUILDING CONTAINS A TOTAL OF 224 DWELLING UNITS.   5. I strongly disagree. This part of the river should be lined will shorter, visually appealing, cultural institutions. It should not be lined with 15-story condo towers. Those can go one layer back, which is what is happening. Also, regarding the vets memorial, I think it’s an awesome looking building and will he even better once the surface lot behind it is developed.

  7. I think the issue is that surface parking lots tend to be more valuable to the owner of the lot than lots with small old buildings. A surface lot in the right area can generate a lot more revenue than a lot with a small old building. I'm not defending demolishing buildings at all here, just pointing out the unfortunate reality.
  8. Hopefully the surface lots along Washington to the east of the park will be developed soon and will include a bit of commercial space. A coffee shop along the perimeter of the park would probably be a huge success.

  11. The age of the picture could have something to do with it. There are a lot of leaves still on the trees so the picture might be about two months old at this point.
  12. It could just be more of a procedural thing than anything else. You can't officially approve a new terminal project for construction until you have the full plans for the new terminal.
  13. I've talked about this before but they really need to start including playgrounds for kids in these parks. How can we create truly vibrant and mixed-use neighborhoods without providing space for kids?

  16. Yea this definitely muddies the waters for sure. A large part of the Groveport school district is outside of the city of Groveport.
  17. How many schools have been built in the district since then? Kilbourne wasn’t built until 1991.
  18. From 670 it appears to be very close to the same height. It will definitely do a great job of adding density to the skyline.
  19. Worthington’s population is lower than it was in 1970. UA’s population is also lower than it was in 1970. Gahanna’s population hasn’t changed a ton since about 2000. I’m thinking it probably had more to do with the age of the buildings than population growth in these districts. I just found it interesting that so many local districts have gone through such a large project at around the same time.
  20. What’s the deal with all the recent and ongoing high school rebuilds in the area? In addition to this one, I can think of Gahanna, UA, Groveport, and Lancaster just off the top of my head. Was there new state funding made available recently? Just seems odd that so many would happen simultaneously.
  21. Looks like the elevator core has more or less topped out. I love the height. Slightly taller than the surrounding buildings but not so tall that it looks out of place.

According to the building's Wikipedia page, it's the fourth tallest courthouse in the United States but the reference for that claim just takes you to a random page at SkyscraperPage.com so I'm not sure of the claim's validity. Assuming it actually is the fourth tallest courthouse in the US, that would mean the Franklin County Courthouse in Columbus is at least the third tallest courthouse in the US at 464' tall. Pretty cool that 2 of the top 4 would be in Ohio if true!
