Columbus: OSU / University Area Developments and News
cbussoccer replied to CMH_Downtown's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionNo, doing things like insulating water pipes and other utilities, I believe. The stadium essentially gets turned off after the last game of the season because most utilities aren't insulated. Water pipes would burst all over the place if they attempted to host a CBJ game in January because most areas aren't insulated.

Columbus Crew Discussion
I was at the game and had a perfect view of Amundsen's long range goal from behind the goal. What an awesome atmosphere. I'm really hoping we get past Orlando in the next round and can get at least one more home game this season, either in the ECF if Philly beats Cincy, or in the MLS Cup Final if we can manage to get there (we will host the final no matter who we play if we make it that far).

cbussoccer replied to CMH_Downtown's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionThat would actually be a great idea. It might be impossible to make it work financially, due to the extensive renovations that would be needed, but if you could make it work it could result in a really cool hotel.

Incredible. It's almost unrecognizable compared to today. Here's a similar shot taken about 6 months ago from the new Hilton Tower across the street.

Cleveland SC Soccer Stadium
It's definitely not isolated. It's less than a five minute walk from the busiest bus lines.

What was the point of the green roof in the first place? Was it going to be publicly accessible? If not, it's disappointing that it's not in the plans but it's not a massive loss in my opinion.

The Crew just Tweeted out the below video and the logo is definitely raised. This must have just happened in the last couple months. https://twitter.com/ColumbusCrew/status/1717522758404296806

Southwest is adding seasonal flights from CMH to San Diego (Saturdays only) and Kansas City (Sundays only) starting in June. These are weekend only seasonal flights, but it's great news nonetheless. Austin was a seasonal once weekly flight just a year or two ago and now it's a daily year round route. Houston is similar I believe. So hopefully Southwest will see some success with these routes and expand them.

Columbus: Downtown: Arena District Developments and News
cbussoccer replied to CMH_Downtown's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionThe fact that the Short North was going through its renaissance at the same point the AD was being built out has really held the AD back from reaching is full potential. Astor Park being built out and potential pedestrian bridge connecting the AD to the Peninsula could really help the AD turn the corner though. I also think adding a few hotels down around Huntington Park and LDC could really make restaurants/bars/retail much more viable. I would love to see a hotel on one of the surface lots south of LDC and another one south of Huntington Park between Hannover and Neil. I think the AD is still only about half of what it will eventually be, so I definitely don't think all hope is lost.

Columbus: Downtown: Merchant Building
So it's been about a year and a half since we discovered this (back on page 10 of this thread), but the application with FAA for the actual tower was filed about a year and a half ago and it listed the tower's height at 382'. Now that the WCM tower has topped out, presumably at 411', Merchant tower would become the 12th tallest building in Columbus with Three Nationwide Plaza at number 11 (408' tall) and WMC at number 10.

Columbus: Downtown: Capitol Square Renaissance (Edwards Cos.)
I'm still confused as to how this ended up at 15-stories when it was proposed/approved at 13-stories if I recall correctly. I'm not complaining at all, it's just a bit odd.

Columbus: Downtown: Grant Hospital Redevelopments
I don’t have have much of an issue with this garage in theory. It’s a parking garage for a hospital and I’m completely fine with them going a bit basic on design in order to allocate funds toward their actual purpose. With that said, it’s an absolute shame that this is across the street from the downtown library which is one of my favorite buildings downtown. I hate that some of the worst architecture downtown is the first thing you see when you walk out of the library’s front doors.

It also depends on the type of tower crane. If it's a lufting tower crane, like the ones used at the WMC expansion, the end of the boom can extend way above the final height of the tower. The WMC cranes reached 600' feet when the boom was as vertical as possible, based on their requests.

Columbus: Downtown: Merchant Building
This request seems to indicate there will be more than one, so there might be one that sticks around until the lower portion tops out and then another that sticks around until the taller portion is finished. On a side note, this crane will apparently be exactly as tall as the AEP tower once it reaches its final height.

I wouldn't expect to see a tower crane on October 5th. Those dates are often wildly inaccurate.
