Columbus: OSU / University Area Developments and News
cbussoccer replied to CMH_Downtown's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionYou need more than one billionaire though. Nashville and Austin have many out-of-town billionaires willing to splash cash on condos/apartments as vacation spots which helps them finance many of their sterile high-rise residential buildings.

Columbus: Restaurant News & Info
cbussoccer replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Restaurants, Local Events, & EntertainmentYes! I love Si Senor. Hopefully they stay open during dinner as I believe their past locations downtown closed after lunch. I would love to be able to grab a fish sandwich and pasta salad before a Crew game.

Columbus: Downtown: The Estrella / 199 E. Rich St
They do have a website up now. https://www.theestrellacolumbus.com/ Pretty exciting that we could have a 19 story building and a 12 story building under construction near each other in this part of downtown. This section of downtown has mostly been forgotten about in terms of redevelopment until the last couple years.

Columbus: Downtown: The Madison / 100 North High
I don't think it got scrapped. I think the discussion is why this portion of the ground floor street front is being wasted on an elevator shaft as opposed to additional retail. There will still be retail space as far as I'm aware.

Columbus: Crime & Safety Discussion
You are completely misrepresenting what I was saying. You don't drive through the Short North on a Friday night and think "boy, the Crips really have this place on lock", but a lot of the violent crime that occurs in the area is gang-related. You don't drive around New Albany and think "boy, the Latin Kings really have this place on lock", but Kia Boys gang has been stealing cars like crazy in that area for months now. Similarly, much of over-the-top violent crime that occurs in Easton, or downtown, or Campus, etc., is gang-related even if there isn't an obvious visual gang presence. Certainly not violent crime is directly related to gangs, but a lot is. When you add in the fact that this recent incident at Easton involved 13 year olds and multiple firearms were recovered (indicating both 13 year olds were carrying), it becomes very likely that the incident was gang-related. It's incredibly rare for a 13 year old, let alone two 13 year olds, to be carrying firearms around a place like Easton, and also be willing to use those firearms, unless they are already involved in gangs. The media rarely links acts of violent crime to gang activity, so you aren't going to get your "receipts" from ABC6 or 10TV or the Dispatch or whatever it is you deem acceptable. But if you have close connections to investigators in the CPD (I do), and if you have a basic understanding of how gangs operate (I do), it's pretty easy to draw connections on your own or get confirmation directly from the investigators. For example, there are often news reports of drive by shootings that occur during candlelight vigils for young men who were shot and killed. These shootings are obvious gang activity, but the media almost never reports them as such. Heck, most crime goes completely unreported. Cars are stolen from Easton parking lots, credit cards are skimmed, merchandise is stolen, etc., but you don't get news articles written about them and you certainly don't hear the media linking them to gang activity even though they commonly are.

Columbus: Crime & Safety Discussion
Multiple firearms were recovered from the scene in area that has been dealing with gang activity for a while now. That indicates gang activity, not a 13 year old grabbing his parent's gun, going to Easton, and shooting the kid that stole his girl. What fantasy world do you live in where this is even remotely accurate?

Columbus: Crime & Safety Discussion
13 year olds shooting each other makes it even more likely to be gang related. 13 year olds aren't shooting each other in public areas like Easton unless they are in the process of being initiated into gangs. Criminal organizations will often create a culture where new young members are encouraged to perform wild criminal/violent acts to prove they are fully committed to the group.

John Glenn Columbus International Airport
Agreed. The only way a completely new airport could possibly make sense would be to become a hub which isn't going to happen. I'm more than happy to maintain our extremely convenient location, continue to build up SW service and be a key market for them, fill in a couple holes in our route map (routes to SAN, PDX, LAX on something other than NK), and add a couple international routes.

Didn’t Intel need their plant(s) to be away from airports and busy rail lines? I wonder how close an airport could be built to the site. I do agree with others that the location of CMH is fabulous. Unless we are guaranteed to become a hub (not going to happen) I would prefer to remain in the current location. But if by some miracle the plan is to move somewhere with enough space to grow into a legit hub, it might be worth the trade off of being in a slightly less convenient location.

Columbus: Hotels, Conventions and Tourism News & Info
"Visitors make 49.6 million trips to Greater Columbus for conventions, trade shows, sporting events and leisure visits, spending $6.6 billion and supporting 75,000 jobs." My guess is they are counting anyone comes to the city from outside the city limits, and they are counting multiple trips for person. Even so, 50m seems pretty high. Regardless of the ridiculous numbers, if the ridiculous numbers this year are surpassing the same ridiculous numbers from prior years, it's still good news.

Columbus: German Village / Schumacher Place Developments and News
cbussoccer replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionKinda sucks to see a bunch of chain restaurants there, but being across the street from a hospital it's not too much of a surprise. Regardless, it's great to see some commercial space being added here. This stretch of Livingston is really ripe for more development like this.

Columbus: Random Development and News
cbussoccer replied to Summit Street's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionThe new one in front of the Big Lots HQ? I'm not sure there's enough space in there for 585 employees in addition to the companies already taking up space there. At the very least, it'd be a tight squeeze.

Columbus: Downtown: Merchant Building
This project does have some quirks to it. Building on top of a cemetery an obvious one. I would love to know how much that exhumation process cost. They are also tying into a 100 year old building and possibly reconfiguring part of the current North Market. The entire North Market portion of the tower is specialized which is going to be more expensive than building generic office space or residential space. It's also build kind of an odd location, essentially bound by alleys as opposed to actual city streets. I would imagine they had to do more utility work than normal to prep for this tower, but that's just a guess. Add all those quirks to the skyrocketing price of raw materials and it's easy to see how the price is so exorbitant.
