  1. Well, this is interesting. Just filed today: https://portal.columbus.gov/Permits/Cap/CapDetail.aspx?Module=Engineering&TabName=Engineering&capID1=25CAP&capID2=00000&capID3=00DTO&agencyCode=COLUMBUS&IsToShowInspection=
  2. I agree either the north or south section should be around 10-12 stories. Not sure the entire east side of the building being commercial space is realistic though. It would be very difficult to fill that much retail space in such a closed off area.
  3. I'm an idiot. I didn't realize there were multiple comments above that one haha. Today isn't my first day on the internet, I promise!
  4. I can't read the article. Do they have any updated renderings?
  5. We really need to try to replicate Gay Street in a few more areas of downtown. It's such a pleasant street to walk down.
  6. Nice to see them finally getting close to ground level. They spent a lot of time on the foundation and below ground parking decks. Can't wait to start seeing vertical progress.
  7. They sure are taking their time with the facade. Geez. I love this building so much though in terms of its size. We need about 10 more of these throughout downtown.
  8. Looks like we are coming up on a crane jump here pretty soon.
  9. Looks like they have 7 positions posted for the Columbus area: https://www.anduril.com/open-roles/?location=Columbus%2C+Ohio%2C+United+States&department=&search=&gh_src= Obviously a very small number, but it's great to see how fast they are getting moving on this.
  10. Oh for sure. I was trying not to be too greedy haha but yea ideally the red would hit Bridge Park and the zoo.
  11. Grab your shovels boys, let's start digging. Seriously though, this is what I want. Doesn't all have to be underground, but I want it:
  12. Turning lane or no turning lane, I don't think there's space. You would either need to go above or below.
  13. Here's some more pics I saw on Facebook.
  14. I was in Europe recently and they have their faire share of bad architecture and poorly built buildings. This issue is definitely not unique to here.
  15. Sitting in an office chair staring at a computer screen a foot in front of your face for 8-9 hours a day kills your body as well, but in a very different way.
  16. cbussoccer replied to ColDayMan's post in a topic in Mass Transit
I'm so excited for (hopefully) true BRT lines. I was recently in Curitiba, Brazil which is famous for its BRT lines, and it's really incredible what they have down there. It's truly like rail transit on rubber tires. If we actually build this correctly, I really think it will take us to the next level and might actually make it more likely that we end up with some form of rail transit within the next couple decades.
  17. Oh, that's an excellent point. I didn't even think of that. The NE corner of Long and Spring would be my top choice for a location, unless they already have plans for something else on that surface lot. Also, I really wish CCAD would put more effort into developing/redeveloping some of the land they sit on. Especially the areas outlined in red below. You are an art and design college for crying out loud. If you are going to have surface lots, at least let your students design for art features for them.
  18. This would be an interesting spot for a hotel. Not sure how much demand there is for a hotel in this area. If they include some event space it could be interesting though.
  19. Spirit is reportedly planning to bring back their CMH-LAX and CMH-BOS routes toward the end of this summer. I believe both will be daily. CMH-MSY may also be returning. In other news, February statistics are out: https://flycolumbus.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/Feb-2025-Monthly-Stats-Report-website.pdf Total passengers at CMH for February was down -3.5% to last February, although February 2024 had 29 days compared to 28 days this February. On a per day basis, February '25 was almost exactly identical to February '24. Meanwhile, LCK saw a 2% passenger growth for February YoY, despite the one less day. On a YTD basis for CMH+LCK, we are down -.2% to LY. A lot of airports are currently seeing slight passenger declines over the past few months, so the fact that we are holding steady is pretty encouraging.
  20. So it looks like the two best high school basketball teams in the state of Ohio are separated by just a few miles in the northern suburbs of Columbus. Olentangy beat Reynoldsburg to win the D1 championship, and Westerville dominated Perry to win the D2 championship. Westerville North most likely would have been in the conversation to make the D1 championship along with Orange had they played in the D1 tournament. Their only two losses of the season were to Orange by 2 points and to St Iggy by 13 points in the beginning of the season. After their loss to St Iggy, they went on to win the all of their remaining games and absolutely dominated in the tournament, winning every game by at least 20 points. Orange, on the other hand, proved without a doubt to be the best team in the state. Their only two losses this season came to elite out of state competition, and they beat St Iggy twice. St Iggy put up a valiant effort though, taking Orange to OT in both meetings this season.
  21. There aren't 9 hotels with a 10th currently under construction, and a need for even more, because the convention center hosts a few niche conferences. There aren't three pricey steak houses within spitting distance of the convention center, with more a short walk away, because it isn't the biggest draw in the downtown area. No, we aren't overestimating how many people the convention center brings to the downtown/AD/SN area on a weekly basis. On the day you went to your event at the convention center, there were probably one or two other events happening as well. Just take a look at the calendar and see how much they host. Click on any event and you can see the anticipated attendance. https://columbusconventions.com/calendar/
  22. Some events are fairly local, some are regional, and some are national. Regardless, they bring thousands of people at a time to the area that don't live in the area. Even something like a Central Ohio volleyball tournament is going to bring a thousand people to the area that don't otherwise come to the area. They aren't tourists in the traditional sense, but they are people coming to the area that wouldn't otherwise be in the area.
  23. Exactly. The convention center brings in thousands of visitors at a time. Their website actually has a calendar of events and has an anticipated number of attendees for the events. Just this past weekend, there were over 8,000 people attending events at the convention center. In 2023, it brought in over 50 million total visitors. With that amount of visitors in the area, the SN trending more chain-heavy was bound to happen. I'm actually impressed it's maintain as much local flavor as it has, given how expensive it is to operate a business there. I would love to see COTA bring back the CBus Circulator (for free) and really emphasize it for visitors as a way to get to different parts of downtown, German Village, Franklinton, etc. That would allow visitors/tourists who tend to be concentrated around the GCCC to more easily spread out to other parts of the city for food, drinks, and entertainment options.
  24. Right. People from rural Ohio certainly come into Columbus specifically to go to Easton. It's just a day trip for them though. We might even pull in some people from WV as well. But aside from that, we aren't pulling in too many people from other states who come here specifically and only to visit Easton. If you are in PA, you'll go to Pittsburgh or Cleveland before coming here if you need some higher end shopping. If you are in Kentucky, you'll stop in Cincy or head up to Indy. If you are in Indiana, you'll go to Indy or Chicago. With that said, Easton is typically one of the go-to spots for people who are visiting the city. That's definitely true.
