Then, people like @John7165 take the bait and make their own unnecessary quips because they feel the need to defend their side, and we end up with a pointless political bickering session that eventually results in a locked thread.

The situation is inherently political, yes. But, yourself and others have already proved to be incapable of discussing the topic without resorting to childish political arguing and insulting. It doesn't add any value to the conversation here whatsoever and will certainly lead to all out keyboard war that will get this thread locked down. Yea, this is a perfect example of a quality urban development greatly improving downtown without being a tower. Yes, we all want more towers, but not every new development has to be a 300+ foot tower in order to greatly improve our downtown. Now, if we could just manage to do something the surface lots along the south side of Gay Street (outlined in red) and the Midland Garage (outlined in yellow), the area would really go to the next level.

It looks like two different cranes jumped over the weekend. The nearest crane looks like it may have reached its final height, although it's difficult to tell from this angle.

Construction sure seems to be moving slow here. I wonder if they had issues getting the foundation ready or if they are just dealing with supply chain slowdowns.

They are building garages with this development. Looks like there will be two garages with about 1,200 combined spaces. So they clearly aren't averse to building garages, they just want to maintain some parking spaces directly in front of most of the buildings for some odd reason.

Gotcha. It seemed pretty obvious you were talking specifically about Grandview Crossing, considering I was talking about the view from Grandview Crossing and the picture was from Grandview Crossing. But yes, I think we would all like to see more height in other areas of the city. That horse has been beaten to death.

The same thing happens in many popular suburban style apartment complexes. I lived in a couple in the Grandview area, and if you didn't get home by a certain time you would end up being forced to park wherever you could find a spot, often on the opposite side of the complex from your unit. Weekends were the absolute worst.

Right, but that's insanely expensive. You can make the numbers work in downtown Chicago, a world-famous city with very little land available to build on, but it's increasingly more difficult to make the numbers work on an awkward piece of land like this in a smaller city with a lot of available land to build on.

Isn’t that because this area was a landfill? I remember during site prep like 6-7 years they spent months just packing the earth down so they could actually build on it.

Seems like a great spot for a 12+ story building. Maybe a few levels of parking topped with residential so most of the residential is above the currently proposed building, giving them an awesome view of everything to the east.

In just a couple weeks the Blue Jackets have landed the top NHL free agent who also happens to be one of the best players in the league, and the Crew landed a player with enough quality to play in the top leagues in England and Spain and score against the top teams in the world. Gaudreau is in the prime of his career and Cucho is nearing the prime of his. Both players could have played just about anywhere they wanted, but they chose Columbus. Sure, the CBJ and Crew organizations played a huge part, but it also says something about the livability and quality of this city that top athletes are starting to take notice and desire to come play/live here.

The article proves that the organization is willing to move elsewhere. And I never said it specifically mentioned parking. I pointed out that attendees have already been complaining for a while about constraints, so adding even more constraints will only make it more likely for them to look elsewhere.

Yes, we do know for certain they would leave town. They've already threatened to do so. Forcing participants to stash their car in some off-site parking lot separate from their space on the fairgrounds is going to piss them off. If they do that then the AAQHC is leaving town, guaranteed. First off, we don't know what they've looked into and what they haven't looked into. Secondly, they aren't saying "screw you Columbus". The Ohio Expo Center exists to hold expositions. Their job is not to build youth soccer fields. I completely understand the frustration with the planned sports park not happening, but I can also see why the Ohio Expo Center feels they can't afford to lose that space. Ultimately, I don't see why we absolutely have to force a community sports park into this specific spot. There is plenty of space in this city to build that and also allow the Ohio Expo Center to continue operations as they see fit.

That one event is a massive month-long event which brings more than a half million people and upwards of $250M to Columbus. The American Quarter Horse Congress is huge deal and is one of the largest horse shows in the world. In fact, it's become so large that it's nearly outgrown the Ohio Expo Center. In recent years, the Quarter Horse Congress has started raising concerns over site constraints and suggested moving elsewhere. This would be a huge blow to the Ohio Expo Center, so from their perspective I can completely see why they wouldn't want to create any more constraints than what already exist. This isn't a classic development issue we generally run in to where people are just attached to surface parking just because they are used to it. In this situation, the amount of surface parking is quite literally what makes or breaks their ability to host their marquee event and they can't afford to lose anymore of it.

Cincy, Columbus, Nashville, Austin and St Louis should all be in line to host in the next 6-7, assuming they want to. They all have (or will have in St Louis) brand new stadiums. Generally, when a team builds a new stadium they end up hosting the ASG within a few years.
