Columbus: Downtown: Merchant Building
Based solely on what I've seen with other projects, you don't see these applications pop up until the developer is fully prepared to start construction. Applications were filed for the Hilton 2.0 tower about 2 months before the crane went up. Crane applications were filed for the WMC tower about 2 months before the cranes went up. I think we could expect to, at the very least, see a ground breaking for this tower sometime around Memorial Day.

Columbus: Downtown: Lower.com Field / Astor Park
So this isn't necessarily an Astor Park webcam, but this WBNS weather cam just so happens to overlook the area. You can't make out a ton of detail, but it's better than nothing. https://www.weatherbug.com/weather-camera/?cam=WBNSS

cbussoccer replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionWood Cos. plans 'something special' for next Short North project https://www.bizjournals.com/columbus/news/2022/03/10/21-w-hubbard.html According to the article, Columbus Eye Works will not able re-up their lease in the new building, but Wood Cos. is offering them space at Parkside on Pearl which is expected to break ground this spring. The commissioners were generally receptive toward the plans, but naturally had concerns about traffic and parking.

John Glenn Columbus International Airport
Breeze is looking into the possibility of adding international flights, so CMH becoming a Breeze hub could be huge for our hopes of getting direct service to Europe. https://simpleflying.com/breeze-airways-international-flights/ With that said, I highly doubt CMH will become a hub for Breeze, but one can hope.

This is the webcam that was used for the stadium, but it hasn't been updated since August. It included views of Astor Park so maybe they plan to resurrect it soon. https://public.earthcam.net/tJ90CoLmq7TzrY396Yd88LfYWPyQxkt0K3IoDnSqPq4!/downtown_stadium/stadium_external/view_2

Obetz: Developments and News
I’m a Madison Christian graduate and I definitely learned about dinosaurs lol. As a matter of fact, I was much more prepared for college than most public school graduates I encountered, especially when it came to academic writing. Half of my freshman level writing composition class had no idea what MLA or APA formatting was. I had been writing numerous MLA/APA format research papers each year since I was in 8th grade, so that revelation was quite appalling to me. Dinosaurs aside, I think we both agree that not everyone requires a top school district and this area of the city has a ton of untapped potential. There’s ample land to develop that is cheaper and much closer to downtown than anywhere else in the metro area. I think we will see a ton of growth down here over the next decade.

Obetz: Developments and News
And some people are already planning to send their kids to private school. So who cares if the school district isn’t great? Your kids aren’t going to the schools so you’d rather not pay top dollar for something you aren’t using. There are plenty of private school options close to Obetz. Madison Christian in Groveport is the closest option. There’s also Grove City Christian which isn’t too far. Bishop Ready and Hartley aren’t too far. And if you really want to get fancy, you have St. Charles and CSG as well.

Totally agree on the need for a new exit on 270. Also, Groveport and Obetz thread updates in the same day? That has to be a first! Lol

Groveport: Developments and News
cbussoccer replied to ColDayMan's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionI noticed this the other day. I pulled up google maps to look at some directions from my house in Groveport and noticed some yard updates I did last summer were now visible. Hopefully the entire city gets updated imagery and we get some updates 3D imagery as well.

cbussoccer replied to Summit Street's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionOut of all the Columbus projects, how did they justify giving CoverMyMeds tax credits? I would rank that one as one of the least "transformational" projects on the list.

cbussoccer replied to Summit Street's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionIt's a flat number. "The applications will be competitively scored and ranked in order from highest to lowest score for each location category (major city and general). Tax credit allocation will begin with the highest score in each category and continue until all available tax credits for the fiscal year are allocated." https://development.ohio.gov/business/state-incentives/transformational-mixed-use-development-program A total of $100m is available this year, with $80m available for major city projects and $40m available for general projects.

Columbus: Random Development and News
cbussoccer replied to Summit Street's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionI was driving NW on 33 toward 270 yesterday. As I was getting on the ramp to merge onto 270W toward Grove City, I noticed what appeared to be a red tower crane further up 33 toward 104. I have no idea what project on the southside around 104 would necessitate the use of a tower crane, but maybe one of you do.

Columbus: Downtown Developments and News
The 2020 U.S. Census showed Downtown's population reached 10,000 residents after years of construction. By comparison, the report said downtown Cleveland's population was 21,000 in 2021, and Cincinnati's was 14,013. I have no idea how the "downtown" boundaries compare, or how they are determined, but those are the numbers for the 3Cs.

Columbus: Short North Developments and News
cbussoccer replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionYep, which is interesting because the entire building is one parcel. I initially thought it was a separate building/parcel than the Hubbard Grill, but apparently it isn't. I'm glad the Hubbard Grill portion will remain untouched.
