  1. It looks like an exciting 12-story, 180' tower, is being proposed at 21 W Hubbard. Retail, office, parking, and residential space are planned to be included. https://columbusohdev.app.box.com/s/ueuez8v9hozpn0qbppo6xrzu7qx917zm

That hospital tower is going to be massive.
  3. Those are standard renderings for conceptual projects. They wanted to gauge the commission's appetite for the scope and use before bringing forward a design for approval. The renderings didn't seem to scare the commissioners as they voiced their approval for the height.

  5. I'm not sure what will be possible with the Dahlia site unless the substation behind it is moved, but the BBR site is definitely going to be an attractive lot. I can't imagine it would remain parking for long. Speaking of parking in the AD, the small Arena Crossing surface lot at Vine and Front needs to go. I actually thing a small pocket park would be great. Maybe a small water feature in the center surrounded by tables and shade trees. It would be a great spot for North Market visitors to relax and enjoy the food they bought in the market.
  6. A couple engineering apps have been filed with the city over the past couple days for this project. https://portal.columbus.gov/permits/ https://portal.columbus.gov/permits/
  7. We used to have one of those, but it was closed a few years ago.
  8. Nifco is a supplier of plastic parts for Honda. They are located in the Canal/Pickerington area, which is close to an hour drive to the Honda plant with just a little bit of traffic. We will probably see a lot of that type of set up with suppliers for Intel. I know someone who used to work at Nifco. He said quite a few employees drove up from southern Ohio, some as far south as the river. So Honda, located in Marysville, was impacting job opportunities for someone living 2.5 hours away near Portsmouth.
  9. Dang, that hospital tower is going to be huge. Those elevator cores still have 3-4 more levels to go I think.
  10. At least the tower crane grew with the elevator core on that project. The elevator cores for this one have surpassed the cranes, which seems totally bizarre to me. That's an awesome shot though.
  11. He's definitely had some bizarre moments in the comments sections. I've witnessed him get ratio'd in his own comments sections a few times lol
  12. The way this tower is being built seems so odd. For such a tall tower, you generally don't see the elevator cores advancing 15-18 floors higher than the steel/concrete for each floor. Hilton Tower's elevator core, for example, was usually one floor higher than the floor actually being built out. Even more odd is the fact that the elevator cores are as tall, or taller, than all three tower cranes on site. I wonder when we'll see the first tower crane jump...
  13. Ramp up? As in build taller? Sounds good to me Brian!
  14. Air show returns to Rickenbacker Airport in 2023 https://www.columbusmessenger.com/air-show-returns-to-rickenbacker-airport-in-2023.html Look to the sky for some exciting sights in the summer of 2023. That’s because, after a several year absence, the Columbus Air Show returns on June 17-18, 2023 at Rickenbacker International Airport, 2241 John Circle Drive, Columbus. “The last show at Rickenbacker Airport was 2007’s Gathering of Mustangs and Legends that drew more than 150,000 guests,” said Herb Gillen, president of Herb Gillen Air Shows. When asked why the air show is returning after all these years, Gillen said, “Our company has produced and marketed air shows across the country and we’ve always wanted to do a show here in our own hometown. After a several year absence, the Columbus Regional Airport Authority was receptive to doing a show. There was consideration of doing shows before this, but due to different circumstances (airport construction, lack of a jet team, other things) the show did not move forward.”
  15. The next person who posts anything here other than news of a 500' tower deserves a lifetime ban. I've had enough!!
  16. I highly doubt Cleveland is a bigger hockey market than Columbus. Columbus has had an NHL team for two decades and, even with how atrocious the team has been for their entire existence, was still averaging about 17k/game the last season before Covid. Additionally, Columbus has a huge number of transplants from Detroit, Chicago, and Pittsburgh in a way that Cleveland does not. Go to any CBJ game when they play a team from one of those cities, and the crowd will be about 50/50 or 60/40 split depending on how the season is going. The non-CBJ fans are not from those cities either, they live in Columbus. They've just never changed their allegiance because the CBJ have always been so bad. An interesting idea would be for Columbus and Cleveland to share the CBJ and the Cavs. It still wouldn't work because of the many of the issues I listed above, but it would be kinda cool for two cities the size of Columbus and Cleveland to enjoy professional hockey and basketball at the same time.
  17. No, this would be a horrible plan for both cities. By splitting time between two cities, you are cutting the number of events in the arena in half. This hurts the owner of the arena and the businesses surrounding the arena. You also end up losing a ton of fans that you would otherwise have by being "fully committed" to one city. Only playing half of your home games in a city delegitimizes you in the eyes of many potential fans. Instead of averaging 15-17k in one city, you'll end up averaging 12k split between two cities. Aside from that, splitting time between two cities poses a huge issue for coaches and players. Hockey players already have to play 41 road games during the year. By splitting time between two cities, you end up playing 75% of your games away from the city you live in. This would be a huge deterrence for potential players and coaches. The team would end up being one of the worst teams in the league each season, which would further hurt attendance. You also have to consider the fact that this would double the work the front office would have to do when it comes to things like ticket sales. Very few people will by full season tickets across two different cities, so you'll have to essentially sell twice as many tickets every year. You'll also have to double up on marketing and other things like gameday staff.
  18. Crew legend Federico Higuain will sign one-day contract to retire as a Crew player.
  19. Hyperion chooses Columbus for headquarters location https://www.nbc4i.com/news/local-news/columbus/hyperion-chooses-columbus-for-headquarters-location/ Hyperion Inc., a hydrogen electric technology and transportation company, is scheduled to announce Tuesday that it will be bringing its global headquarters to the Columbus area. A release from Columbus Mayor Andrew Ginther’s office says the company will create nearly 700 research and development, engineering, design and manufacturing jobs to the area, and will be the largest manufacturing project in the city limits in a decade.
  20. Yep, that's the one. It's a shame this would result in a 100+ year old house being demolished, but the house is...not very nice. And that fence is hideous. I'm surprised the city allowed it, considering some of the things they write people up for.
  21. More mixed-use development potentially coming to Groveport! https://www.columbusmessenger.com/more-development-coming-to-groveports-main-street.html Groveport City Council is considering legislation to amend the zoning for the 1.19 acre property located at 325 Main St. from urban residential to select commercial planned. In paperwork filed with the city, the property’s owners, Aaron and Katherine Carroll, are proposing to construct two, two story mixed use commercial buildings in two phases with business space on the first floor and residential space on the second floor. Phase 1 would be one 5,200 square foot building and be expected to be completed in 24 months. Phase 2 would be a 5,800 square foot building and also include demolishing the existing more than century old, approximately 1,100 square foot, single family residence on the site. There is no projected completion schedule yet for Phase 2.
  22. NRI has built two 12-story towers and a 10-story in the last ~5 years. They’ve also openly stated their plans to build another tower like the North Bank condos. I’m not hoping or expecting anything earth shattering, but I don’t think it’s a stretch to expect something around 10 stories across from the stadium.
