New Albany: Ohio One (Intel Semiconductor Facility)
cbussoccer replied to cbussoccer's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionIt's always prudent to remain skeptical of such large promises, but I think in this situation, given the massive national security and economic situation related to microchip production, the chance that things get significantly delayed is much lower.

Columbus: OSU Medical Center Expansion
cbussoccer replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionInpatient Hospital Becomes Tallest Building at Ohio State https://buildingthefuture.osu.edu/news/2022/01/21/inpatient-hospital-becomes-tallest-building-ohio-state The inpatient hospital project reached a major milestone in January. Concrete was recently poured on level 22 of the north and south elevator cores of facility, making it the tallest building on all of the Ohio State campuses. The north and south elevator towers will eventually reach level 25 which will be used for mechanical and support spaces. Level 24 will be the final patient care floor. The center, or middle, elevator core, will contain a total of eight staff elevators and a total of twelve public elevators. This core will eventually top out at level 27, and it will serve as a new helipad. The inpatient hospital is the largest single facilities project ever undertaken at Ohio State. Once completed, it will be the 10th tallest building in Columbus, Ohio.

Columbus: Downtown: Hilton Columbus Downtown Tower II
Saw this pic on the Crew's subreddit by @RedHawk Droneand figured I'd post it here since it shows how the mostly topped-out Hilton Tower fits into the skyline. Can't wait to see North Market Tower standing next to it!

New Albany: Ohio One (Intel Semiconductor Facility)
cbussoccer replied to cbussoccer's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionThere were already talks about CMH getting an Asia route before Covid. I seem to recall an article which stated that demand for Asia routes from CMH was higher than Europe. I would imagine the large retail industry in Columbus had a lot to do with this. Perhaps this will be enough to push demand over the edge.

New Albany: Ohio One (Intel Semiconductor Facility)
cbussoccer replied to cbussoccer's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionOh fun. Another completely unnecessary snide political argument that will change absolutely nobodies mind while adding exactly no amount of value to the thread. Is it really so difficult to resist the urge to derail development threads into obnoxious political pissing contests?

New Albany: Ohio One (Intel Semiconductor Facility)
cbussoccer replied to cbussoccer's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionThis project alone wouldn’t necessitate new routes, outside of Silicon Valley maybe, but it will further increase our already fast growing population. We were already adding routes at a pretty good clip before Covid, so this would only further the need for more.

New Albany: Ohio One (Intel Semiconductor Facility)
cbussoccer replied to cbussoccer's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionI don’t know the exact year, my point is they aren’t waiting until 2030 to start building as evidenced by the fact that the RFP has already been issued and it’s only 2022.

John Glenn Columbus International Airport
CVG and CLE were both hubs for major airlines at one point. Unless we are going to be a major hub, there’s no reason to try to match the overall size. The current CMH terminal could manage a lot more traffic based on number of gates, but it’s the rest of the infrastructure that’s the issue. With this number of gates we could easily double or triple pax numbers.

New Albany: Ohio One (Intel Semiconductor Facility)
cbussoccer replied to cbussoccer's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionThey aren’t waiting ten years to build it. But it will take a good number of years for planning, design, buildout, and finally transfer of operations. They’ve already issued an RFP so the wheels are definitely turning. My hope is that maybe an airline could see this Intel news, combined with the growing Central Ohio population and the new terminal build as an opportunity to really beef up service and maybe even influence a portion of the terminal to fit their needs.

New Albany: Ohio One (Intel Semiconductor Facility)
cbussoccer replied to cbussoccer's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionI wonder what type of impact this might have on air travel to and from Columbus. Could this help us win some new connections? Could we possibly even become a “focus city”? This project just so happens to coincide with the new terminal project kicking off, so it makes you wonder what kind of possibilities are out there….

cbussoccer replied to cbussoccer's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionI vote we preemptively axe the impending political arguments before this thread gets locked again. It’s going to be about as productive as every other political internet argument, which is not at all.

cbussoccer replied to cbussoccer's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionRE Honda's impact in the region, I have a friend who used to work at Nifco, a company who manufactured plastic parts for the interior of cars. The only reason the factory and related jobs existed here was because of the presence of Honda. That's one type of spinoff impact we should expect from this development.

New Albany: Ohio One (Intel Semiconductor Facility)
cbussoccer replied to cbussoccer's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionI think that might be just for the beginning phase. Intel's CEO states this will be a decade long project and built out over numerous phases. Think of Dublin Bridge Park or the Scioto Peninsula on steroids. The first phases of those projects where nowhere near the final (or planned final) numbers.

cbussoccer replied to cbussoccer's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionI'm assuming that would just be phase one of many phases, considering $1bn is nowhere near $100bn.

New Albany: Ohio One (Intel Semiconductor Facility)
Since we have discussion about this in a couple different threads, I figured I'd go ahead and create a thread specifically for this project. A project of this magnitude probably needs its own thread anyway. Here's a very informative article about Intel's plans. Credit to @mrCharliefor posting the article in another thread. Here are some key points from the article: Intel informed the state and local officials in December that Ohio had been chosen over New York for this project. In anticipation of the project, New Albany is annexing 3,600 acres of unincorporated land in Licking County. Scope and timing for the project will be tied to federal legislation that would send billions of dollars of subsidies to domestic semiconductor producers. The Senate passed the U.S. Innovation and Competition Act in a bipartisan vote last June, although the measure has stalled in the House. Both Republican and Democratic officials in Ohio, including DeWine earlier this week, have called on Congress to approve the bill. President Joe Biden’s administration also has pressed the House to act. Factors in the company’s site-selection included proximity to a university. Ohio State University’s computer science and electrical engineering program last year entered the U.S. News and World Report’s Top 25 rankings. Pat Gelsinger, Intel's CEO, did an interview with the Washington Post this past August. Here is the transcript of the interview. Below is the quote which seems to specifically lay out the scope of this project:

Licking County: Developments and News
cbussoccer replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionPosting select quotes is generally fine. And summarize points is generally fine. But copy+pasting an entire article, especially one behind a paywall, is where the issues come into play. I do recall from your post that someone, maybe the county commissioner, had signed a non-disclosure agreement. I find that interesting. It seems to indicate that plans are pretty far along. Nothing is set in stone yet, but it seems to be moving that way. And the tone of the quotes do make this seem like a massive deal. The word "transformational" was used to describe the impact not just on Licking County or Central Ohio, but on the entire region.
