It's a beautiful building. It would be amazing if someone built a replica on that lot. It'd be a great spot for some affordable units, given it's directly next to a hospital with a ton of jobs and the library.
  2. This will always be Ohio's premier small city tower. Unrivaled and unmatched.
  3. Bingo. IIRC, HQ2 was going to was most likely going to happen on the Scioto Peninsula and East Franklinton. People were disappointed that it didn't happen, but fast forward a few years and we are getting something in the same area that is probably better for the city in terms of actual livability than what HQ2 likely would have been. With that being said, I'm not going to turn down the possibility of billions of dollars of investment and tens of thousands of new jobs.
  4. I drove by this area yesterday and the scope of the project (in addition to the peninsula projects) is insane. The level of transformation might end up being more impactful to the city than what the SN went through between 2015-2018.
  5. Very valid points by @DTCL11regarding the potential pushback by NS and CSX as well as limitations of the location. Regarding issues with NS and CSX, it wouldn't surprise me if talks have already been occurring to figure out a workaround. It would obviously take a lot of work to find a solution for all parties, but it's definitely something that would have already been considered. In terms of limitations of the site, I agree. I wonder if a better option in the long term would be to build a "Central Station" on the east surface lot off Nationwide between 3rd and 4th. You could probably fit 2 or 3 platforms which would allow for future route expansion. It seems the lot is long enough for a train to pull off, but I don't know that for sure.
  6. Forget just Licking County, that's going to be a massive boom for the entire region. 10,000 direct jobs would be similar to adding a second Nationwide to Central Ohio. I have no idea how the 100,000 "indirect jobs" would work, but that sounds massive. I can't wait to hear some more details on this...
  7. Awesome! The high-rise boom taking shape in Cleveland and Columbus is awesome to see, and seems to just be getting started. The coming years are going to be an exciting time for urban development in Ohio's cities!
  8. Nationwide owns 600 W Nationwide and the surface lot bounded by the RR tracks, Spring, Nationwide, and Hocking. I believe they plan to develop 600 W Nationwide in some form. In addition, as @amped91mentioned, they own the lot at the NE corner of Spring and Hannover, which is where they plan to build another North Bank Condo-esque tower.
  9. It is without evidence though. You can make a "study" say whatever you want it to say. It doesn't prove anything on the broad scale or individual basis. Look, many people move to an area because of what the area currently is, not what the area will likely become. Not everyone does this obviously. People moving to Franklinton right now are doing so because of what the area is becoming, not what it currently is. Same thing in OTE. But people who have moved to GV throughout the last ~30 years have done so because of what it is. They invested a ton of money into it and don't want it to change, and I can respect that. I guarantee you they would have no issue with a black, brown, purple, blue, pink, or whatever color person if that person matched their socio-economic level and intended to maintain the status quo in the area. But on the other hand, if a "white trash" family from Obetz won the lottery and for some reason decided to move to GV, the people in the area wouldn't be too thrilled. Just imagine the angry FB posts about Jimbob fixing his car shirtless with his butt crack hanging out, while listening to the NASCAR race and drinking a Busch Light. It wouldn't go over too well, I promise you that. So yes, if your argument is that these people opposed to certain developments that perceive might devalue their investment and alter the character of the place they moved into, you are definitely correct and any rational person can see why this opposition might occur. But if you are going to continue on and attribute racial motives to be at the core of their opposition, without any evidence whatsoever, you are out of line. With all that said, I do think the opposition to the project in question is ridiculous. If I lived on Jackson Street, behind where this will be built, I would much rather have this development behind me than an Enterprise Rent-a-Car lot. I would welcome the ground floor retail amenities with the hopes that some useful restaurants or retailers might take some space and actually increase my quality of life within my immediate surrounding area as well as increase my property value. But that's just me....
  10. Wasn’t speaking specifically about you. There are certain people here who accuse anyone who oppose development as not wanting to live next to poor black people. Being labeled a racist is one of the worst things you can be labeled in today’s society, so I if you are going to go around using that label, you better have some evidence to backup your claims. I think we need to keep in mind that a lot of people will oppose any development simply on the basis that something will change and they don’t like when things change. They’ll bring up shadows or traffic or whatever, but they really just don’t want something to change. People of all walks of life have this kind of outlook, but people in higher income areas like GV actually have the time and resources available to obnoxiously make their concerns known, so that’s where we typically hear the pushback.
  11. How about we refrain from unnecessarily labeling people as racists without having any evidence whatsoever to backup the claim. It’s tiresome and adds nothing of value to these threads.
  12. So we actually ended 2021 with 204 homicides, 49 of which were victims under the age of 21. The 204 homicides is a 91% increase in just two years. The good news is, the rate of homicides slowed a bit from August through the end of the year so hopefully that trend continues. CPD is increasing the number of the officers in the department and working on strategies to help quell the drastic increase in violence. https://abc6onyourside.com/news/local/columbus-police-to-look-at-new-ways-to-stop-the-yearly-spike-in-deadly-violence
  13. …aaaaand we made it to 200… https://www.10tv.com/mobile/article/news/local/police-columbus-mans-death-in-march-now-ruled-a-homicide/530-daba9e40-f2b0-4943-be13-27f88a82daf3
  14. And the strip mall style building at High and Price.
  15. Columbus is now up to 196 homicides for the year. A homicide has occurred every day so far this week. https://abc6onyourside.com/news/local/columbus-shooting-solera-drive-12-23-2021
  16. OSU football fan twitter accounts are now picking this up. It is now apparent that we can truly change the city with just one post on here, lol
  17. Oh I know, I just thought it was funny.
  18. Apparently my post was not only taken by a Reddit user, but it's now made it's way to the onlyincbus Instagram account, lol. https://www.instagram.com/p/CXvw71erEmO/ Poor @Pablonot even getting the photo creds he deserves!
  19. Yea that SFO route was used a ton for travel to Asia. It’s really the main reason it existed. With all the retail companies HQd in Columbus, you had a ton of Asia travel for buyers to meet with suppliers. That’s pretty much been put on hold, though I know people are eager to get back over there.
  20. Steel is finally beginning to rise on the southern half of the tower.
  21. 104 homicides in 2019. 193 homicides so far this year, as of yesterday. That's a big problem. Who cares what various crime rates were 35-40 years ago? That's not relevant with what should be expected now. Sure, this could be a blip on the radar and things might subside last year, but that's not a chance you take when the amount of people killed by other people in your city has nearly doubled in just two years.
  22. The "crime is raging" narrative is with respect to the city as a whole, not just downtown. The Dispatch article (according to the headline, I refuse to pay for their inferior product) is talking just about downtown, and I presume Keith is as well. The fact is, homicide numbers are at record levels and have eclipsed last year's record levels. Set record homicide numbers two years in a row certainly indicates crime to be "raging" when compared to just 3-4 years ago. Theft is also at absolutely insane levels in certain parts of the city. I work in the retail industry, and shrink (mainly driven by theft) in many of the historically low shrink areas of Columbus at levels only the worst stores in our nationwide chain used to reach. I also think the reported/recorded commercial theft totals are significantly under counted because CPD have essentially told retailers they can't respond to general theft calls. As a result, thefts don't get called in, meaning they don't get reported.
  23. Columbus broke the NCAA Volleyball Championship attendance record!
  24. Hopefully it wasn't anything too serious. I scoured the local news sites and social media and haven't seen anything about it.
  25. Nope, wasn't me. But I'm flattered one of you stole my post ;) lol It's surprise that people on Reddit would be complaining about something as petty as that. I actually just checked out the thread, and it's mostly just people complaining. I guess that's why I only ever check out r/Columbus to see if anyone has posted any cool pictures. If not, I get the heck outta there.
