  1. Amazing views! Especially that view looking up High Street through the SN. The area is nearly unrecognizable from 5 years, and is even more unrecognizable from 10-15 years ago. SN in 2008: SN in 2017: SN in 2021: Seeing this view makes me want to book a night here once it's open, lol
  2. @richNcincyI've still been experiencing issues with clicking the latest post (i.e. "Posted XX Minutes ago) and being taken to the first page of the thread instead of the latest post. It doesn't happen every time, but it does happen quite bit. It's more of an annoyance than anything, but I just wanted to let you know in case you are still troubleshooting the issue.
  3. Yes, more or less. The crown might extend a bit higher than the top of the elevator core though.
  4. I drove east on 70 through downtown for the first time in a while yesterday. It's crazy how much the view has changed if you look left as you cross the river and the railroad tracks. Take a look at the five year change, courtesy of Google Street View. November 2016: November 2021: November 2016: November 2021:
  5. I drove by Topiary Park today and noticed a few guys were doing some surveying work on the foundation of the Topiary Park apartment building that was destroyed by the fire last year. Hopefully this means reconstruction isn't too far off.
  6. I doubt we'll see more height, but it's nice to know they are asking for it. I would like to see them consolidate the two buildings that front Main into one building at the corner of Main and 5th (Red box ) and incorporate the planned surface parking into parking levels in this building. By combining the buildings and the parking, you could easily end up with a ~15 story tower. By combining the buildings, it would free up the blue box to be turned into a small pocket park that would mesh well with the green space on the Franklin campus next door. The yellow box could remain unchanged from the plan.
  7. I wouldn't be surprised to see one or two buildings in the 12 story range go up on this block of Lane. It's a perfect spot for height and density, and I'm guessing the houses behind these lots are all rentals so there really wouldn't be any push back. But yea, this area is really our best bet for something that tall outside of downtown. I mean, Franklinton could be considered outside of downtown, but I think it's becoming a continuation of it at this point.
  8. Actual video of @CbusOrBusttraveling around town to get us construction update pics...
  9. What is that, 11 stories? My eyes hurt after trying to count the floors. It's good to see they are saving the historic buildings, but I can only imagine the pushback this will get. How dare they try to build something taller than 6 stories.
  10. After reading the posting again, you are definitely correct. It's a request for qualifications. It's the beginning of a long process, but at least the process is beginning!
  11. An RFQ is a Request for Quotation. By publicly issuing this RFQ, the airport authority is telling construction companies that they intend to build a new terminal (and other stuff) and they want to get quotes on what each company can perform the project for. This means the process of building a new terminal is in motion. An RFQ is slightly different than an RFP (Request for Proposal) in that when you issue an RFQ you know what you want, but you want to see who can give you the best price. With an RFP, you know generally what you want, but you don't yet know the specifics. The City of Columbus issued an RFP for the North Market lot because they knew generally what they wanted, but they wanted someone to come up with a specific design and price. It seems the airport knows what they want, they just need to figure out who can do it for the best price.
  12. Hey @CbusOrBustnot sure if you take requests, but could you get us some construction updates on these two projects when you get chance?

I love the view of the city from this angle.
  14. Good callout. CCAD does own the white one-story building, so I wouldn't be surprised if they actually do have plans to redevelop that lot.
  15. Yea, we respectfully voiced our own opinions and then you downvoted us and typed out this overly defensive paragraph. Seems a bit over the top, don't you think?
  16. Proposals for a 137' tower crane and a 73' building have been filed for the 8th & High development. https://oeaaa.faa.gov/oeaaa/external/searchAction.jsp?action=displayOECase&oeCaseID=504034587&row=223 https://oeaaa.faa.gov/oeaaa/external/searchAction.jsp?action=displayOECase&oeCaseID=504163294&row=231
  17. Exactly. I'm more excited about the Scioto Peninsula and Gravity than I am about Hilton or the new OSUMC tower for this exact reason.
  18. So we need a 1,200' tall tower, which would be in the top 10 on the list of tallest buildings in this country? Don't hold your breath. What exactly do we need a 1,000'+ tower for? I mean sure, it might look cool from a distance, but so what? We need developments that improve urban and activate the street level experience. Cleveland has a 947' tower that is completely soulless at the street level. It looks cool from Lake Erie, but if you are walking down Rockwell Ave. it's just another office building. Which of the areas below are more enjoyable and useful for residents and tourists alike? Similarly in Columbus, our tallest buildings do nothing to improve urban living and the street level experience. You get a lot of pedestrian activity during business hours (or at least you did until Covid), but outside of that they suck the soul out of the area. Which of these areas do residents enjoy more and tourists remember the most? I'm far from opposed to tall towers. I would happily accept more of them, but let's not act like a tall, cool looking tower is going to automatically change the already positive trajectory of our city.

    Looking good, Columbus!
  20. This was posted on r/Columbus last week. The tower is looking great in the skyline. Also, check out the Peninsula/Franklinton area to the right. And here's another higher res shot from the same reddit user from about two weeks ago.

Capitol Square and Sheraton Hotel towers under construction in November, 1982. PNC Tower under construction in the foreground with One Nationwide Plaza under construction in the background, circa 1976. Note how much of downtown has already been decimated and turned into surface parking. Most of what is surface parking today was already surface parking in this photo. The William Green Building and Three Nationwide Plaza under construction simultaneously, sometime in 1988.
  22. I see no issue with a building wall fronting Broad as long as it's usable space. If part of it is just ground floor parking space, then I could see the issue.
  23. I think he said North Bank-esque, meaning 20 stories (or more).
  24. The progress this building made in six months is pretty impressive. June 10th: December 10th:
  25. We really need to crowdfund a new phone for @CbusOrBust Or maybe @NorthShore647can give @CbusOrBusthis phone/camera since he's been slacking on the awesome photo tours recently 🤣
