  1. I stumbled across this cool shot on Flickr. It's amazing how many visible structures didn't exist a decade ago. Open the picture so you can zoom in to see more detail. Also, what's up with the passenger train???
  2. Great write-up @GCrites80s! I'm so happy 325 Main Street finally sold. The fence the previous owners put up is hideous and it annoys me every time I drive by. It will be interesting to see what happens at that property. There's so much untapped potential for restaurants and shops along Main Street between College and Front. Hopefully the two ongoing developments will help spur some activity in the coming years. I think Groveport's future is very bright. I'm a young-ish person with a young family living in Groveport, and the number of other families similar to ours who have moved into town in the past 2-3 years is pretty crazy. It's one of the last "affordable" yet safe and comfortable places in the metro area, so it's perfect for first time homebuyers with young families. It also has some good historical housing stock, so it's great for people looking for older houses with plenty of character as opposed to cookie-cutter suburban neighborhoods. On our street alone, I know of 6 couples in the 25-30 age range (a few with kids and a few who intend to have kids soon) who have moved in since 2017. It's a great sign for the future of the city.
  3. Oh that would be an awesome view. Too bad you can’t get a clear shot.
  4. The USMNT will be back in Columbus for another WCQ on 1/27 when they will play El Salvador!
  5. Venues have been announced for the next WCQ window. The USMNT will be back in Columbus on 1/27 against El Salvador, and will be in the Twin Cities on 2/2 against Honduras. In between those, they'll play Canada in Hamilton, Ontario.
  6. I think the old stadium would have lasted longer if it had a roof on it. Playing/watching baseball games throughout the summer in the Dallas heat is not something anyone wants to endure. Domed stadiums are expected at this point in that area of the country. Look at the rest of the stadiums in the southeast. The Astros and Texans play in domes in Houston. The Cowboys play in a dome in Dallas. The Cardinals and Diamondbacks play in domes in Arizona. The Raiders play in a dome in Vegas.
  7. Yep. Obviously perspective makes it appear much larger than it is relative to the rest of the skyline, but they do a great job of filling out the skyline. I'd rather see five 15-20 story towers built in the next five than one 40 story tower in the next five years.
  8. It's Friday afternoon and I have no desire to work, so check out this 10 year change from 315. October 2011 November 2021:
  9. Not really any news on this project per se, but things are obviously still happening behind the scenes as a Final Site Compliance Plan was submitted to the city two days: https://portal.columbus.gov/Permits/Cap/CapDetail.aspx?Module=Engineering&TabName=Engineering&capID1=21LAC&capID2=00000&capID3=01081&agencyCode=COLUMBUS&IsToShowInspection= This is the second Final Site Compliance Plan to be submitted, the first being submitted on 9/12.
  10. Google maps now has October and November streetview imagery up for a some areas around Columbus. Here's the view of the skyline from 670 with Hilton 2 very close to its final height, taken sometime in the past two weeks. Over the coming weeks I'm sure more October/November imagery will be added.
  11. It would, but commercial trash collection is an entirely different process than residential trash collection. It's not that the city as a whole has created more trash, but that one silo of the trash collection process has experienced a sharp increase in demand.
  12. I'm pretty sure this project was visibly stalled even before the chip shortage.
  13. Great photos @Dblcut3! Columbus definitely looks best in the fall, especially the brick streets in Victorian Village.
  14. We all appreciate it! Maybe it's time for us to crowdsource a new phone with a better camera for you...lol
  15. The Hilton is about 500k square feet. The WMC is about 2 million square feet. That difference alone is enough to cause a massively different construction timeline. Additionally, building a hospital is much more intricate than building a hotel. It's not just the construction of the skeleton but also outfitting the building. The Hilton has about 450 guest rooms which are very standard to build out. The WMC has 820 private patient rooms, which are all essentially specialized hotel rooms with a crazy amount of complicated medical equipment that has to be carefully installed. So you have twice the number of rooms in the WMC and each room is probably twice as difficult to build out. Then, you have all the operating rooms, offices, lobbies, examination rooms, etc. that a hotel tower does not have.
  16. Great shots! Thanks for the updates. It's crazy to think that these shots would have practically bare just a year ago.
  17. Definitely not slow. It only took six months to go from this... to this...
  18. Chill. @LibertyBlvdcould/should have foregone the "Walmart customer" insult, but is it really worth derailing this thread to continue harping on it? I think not.
  19. It's happening to me too, although not every time. It took me straight to this post, but has not worked properly at other points this morning. I'm using Chrome.
  20. I saw this on Flickr this morning. It's a nice view of the construction progress, looking south from the High Street cap.
  21. This confused me for a second, lol.
  22. Everyone's chance of being selected just got a little bit better! lol
