Columbus: Random Development and News
cbussoccer replied to Summit Street's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & Construction16 of the 44 applications are in Central Ohio! Can't wait to hear which projects are chosen. Here are the qualifications that must be met in order to be eligible: Projects eligible for TMUD Tax Credits include those that will have a transformational economic impact on the development site and surrounding area and have more than one intended use, with some combination of retail, office, hotel, residential, recreation, structured parking, and other similar uses into one project. The investment in Major City projects must exceed $50 million and include one of the following: (i) at least one new or previously vacant building that is at least 15 stories high; (ii) has a floor area of at least 350,000 square feet; (iii) after completion will be the site of employment accounting for at least $4 million in annual payroll; or (iv) includes two or more connected buildings that collectively have a floor area exceeding 350,000 square. https://www.walterhav.com/ohios-transformational-mixed-use-development-tax-credit/

I definitely think Breeze will try to break into the LA Basin. If they do, I would expect CMH to get a flight there. Pre-Covid, Delta and American were both operating daily flights to LAX, but neither have returned. We do have Spirit flying to LAX now, but I think it's only 5-6 days a week.

I'll believe it when I see it, lol, but that's good news. United is also supposedly bringing back the SFO route in February. These route resurrections have been floated numerous times, but they've been cancelled every time (across the United States) because of prolonged Covid-related travel issues.

SLC-CMH had just started operating when Covid hit. Salt Lake is a city that would experience very little business travel from Columbus, so it would mostly rely on leisure travel and people connecting through SLC (which would have been very few given Delta's extensive service to ATL, MSP, and daily flights to LAX at the time). So given that it was a mostly leisure-travel flight, it would be no surprise that load factors wouldn't be amazing when the flight was rolled out during off-peak vacation time.

Breeze is beginning to receive one Airbus 220-300 each month, and will eventually receive a total of 80. These A220s will be used for transcontinental routes that will be announced early next year. I'm curious to see if CMH will get any of these transcontinental routes, and if so, which ones we will get. I would love to see routes added to SFO or SLC, two routes that haven't returned from pre-covid times. I would also like to see some new routes like PDX or SAN. https://thepointsguy.com/news/breeze-airways-unveils-airbus-a220/

Columbus: OSU Medical Center Expansion
cbussoccer replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionThe outer elevator towers are quite tall, taller than one tower crane and about the same height as the other two. They appear to up to 14 stories already, so we are starting to get a sense of how tall this tower will be. Given that the tower will end up being 26 stories tall, the elevator cores are just a little over halfway to their final height.

The pastels of the convention center are the issue, not the Hilton Tower. I think it looks just fine. A complete overhaul of the convention center façade would be nice though.

Columbus: OSU / University Area Developments and News
cbussoccer replied to CMH_Downtown's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionUnfortunately this type of building is prevalent everywhere in the country, especially on/near college campuses and in cities/metro areas experiencing a decent rate of growth. That doesn't excuse the laziness in design, but Columbus is far from unique when it comes to being oversaturated with boring relatively boring buildings like this one. With that said, I do like the angle at the intersection of High and Lane. It does bring a bit of uniqueness to the building.

A win last night would have been huge, although we still have a bit of hope. We currently have 38 points and are chasing NYRB (9th place - 40 points), NYCFC (8th place - 41 points), DC (7th place - 41 points), and MTL (6th place - 42 points). As you mentioned, we play NYRB this Saturday and DC in two weeks. Winning those games could put us ahead of NYRB and even with DC (although we would lose the tiebreaker to them). Let's look at what it will take to catch these teams, and remember that we need to pass 3 of these 4 teams. We can pick up a maximum of 12 points in our remaining games, which would put us at 50 points for the season. Here's the best each team can do in their remaining games while still allowing us to leap-frog them IF we were to pick up all 12 points: NYRB - 3 wins and 2 losses, or 2 wins, 2 draws, and 1 loss. We can hand them one of their losses this weekend. They can also help us out by drawing DC and MTL. NYCFC - 2 wins and 2 draws. Picking up 8 points in 4 games seems unlikely for NYCFC as they haven't had that type of form since late July/early August. I think they are the team we are most likely to pass. DC - 2 wins and 2 draws. If we beat DC next Saturday, they will need 3 wins to stay ahead of us. They still play NYCFC and NYRB so those games will have huge implications on our playoff hopes. MTL - 2 wins, 1 draw, and 1 loss. With games remaining against Toronto and Houston, it seems highly likely that will pick up at least 2 wins in their remaining games. So even assuming we somehow manage to win all 4 remaining games, that's how much help we'll need from the teams ahead of us. One thing to note is the above scenario is that I'm assuming we lose the tiebreaker with each team if we are even on points. For example, we could conceivably move ahead of NYRB (assuming we pick up all 4 wins) even if they pick up 3 wins, 1 draw, and 1 loss. In that situation, we would be even on points, and even on wins (first tiebreaker), so it would then come down to goal differential. We currently have a -3 GD and NYRB have a +5. At a minimum, that GD would adjust to a +1 for us (assuming we win every game by 1 goal), and + 7 for NYRB (assuming every win/loss is by one goal). So, if NYRB were to pick up 3 wins and a draw, we would have to be cheering for very specific score lines to increase our GD and decrease theirs.

More crappy luck popped up last night. It looks like Zardes might have an MCL injury. While definitely not as bad as an ACL injury, an MCL injury could keep him out for the entirety of this late season playoff push. The injury comes at horrible time for the team and Zardes. Zardes has been playing great over the past month, scoring five goals in the previous four games, and was positioning himself way to earn another callup to the national team for the next WCQ window. Hopefully the injury isn't as bad as feared and he can return to the field soon.

Columbus: Scioto Peninsula Developments and News
cbussoccer replied to StuFoote's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionI feel the red option is the best in terms of access from the majority of the peninsula and Franklinton. If you put the access point at Broad Street it's much more top of mind for people and much easier for visitors to find. If you put the access point at the purple or yellow options, it's not even visible from really anywhere on the peninsula. You have to walk down the path around VMM to see it. Now, if you want to talk access from the AD, the yellow option is by far the best option.
