  1. I believe they'll be using another tower crane for this portion.
  2. We were supposed to get destroyed by Mexico last night. They were fielding a team that was very close to their best possible lineup. We were fielding what could probably be considered a B team at best, but was probably closer to a C team. Mexico's team was full of guys who play for some of the bigger teams in Europe and some of the top teams in Mexico, most of whom have tons of international experience. Our team was almost exclusively made up of young MLS, many of which were making their first national team appearance in this tournament. Last night was our second timing beating Mexico to win a trophy over the course of the past month. The future is extremely bright for the USMNT. I can't wait for WCQ to start next month so we can keep the momentum rolling. Assuming we qualify for the World Cup (I don't think we should have any issue this time around), I think we'll have enough quality to actually make a decent run in the World Cup next year.
  3. I drove down 670 for the first time in a while and noticed the tower is almost the same height as the Hyatt. I can’t wait to see it once it’s topped out.
  4. The shark head with "R U OK?" underneath it on the field didn't tip you off to the fact that maybe it's not a real picture? lol
  5. Progress pic from a few days ago, courtesy of their social media accounts.
  6. Yea I think it was Covid, which makes sense. Hopefully by next summer they bring it back.
  7. Would you be able to do something similar for OSU and Columbus? It would also be cool to see UC and Cincy, but it might be difficult to view downtown and UC together given the sizeable elevation change between the two.
  8. How dare you. Columbus is clearly better! Seriously though, I love the comparison. Not to sound too cliche, but I think each city's skyline has excellent and unique features and I think it's a waste of time to try to figure out who's is "best". It's even more pointless to argue that right now as each city seems to be entering into another mini highrise/midrise boom. Cleveland has built a few 300'+ buildings in the past few years, and has a 600' on the way. Columbus has a couple 350'+ buildings currently under construction with another on the way, and is finally starting to fill in some gaps with quite a few 10-15 story midrises. Cincinnati has added quite a few midrises as well which has continued to fill out its already dense skyline. So I think we should all just appreciate what each skyline has to offer and how much they seem to be improving currently. Most of the tall buildings here in Columbus are located on one of two streets, High (running N-S) or Broad (running E-W). Only one of the ten tallest buildings (456' AEP HQ) is located somewhere other than Broad or High. Of the top 15 buildings, only 3 buildings are located elsewhere - AEP HQ, Capitol Square (350'), and Continental Center (348'). Even most of the taller buildings under construction, approved, and proposed are located along one of those streets. Hilton 2.0, a 361' tower, is currently being built along High Street. Market Tower, planned to be around 350', will be built on the other side of High from Hilton 2.0. Harmony tower, a planned 350-400' tower, would be built along High as well. A 15-story 185' tower was just proposed a block south of Harmony Tower on High. The Franklin County Courthouse is going to build a new building on High soon that will likely be fairly tall. So yea, when you build all your tall buildings on just two different streets, your skyline really gets stretched out lol.
  9. The West Broad/East Main corridor is already extremely well served as well. The 2 and 10 lines are two of the most used routes in the entire city. Aside from High Street, public transit doesn't get much better than those two routes in this city currently. Also, assuming your theory that people along those routes don't feel safe at their bus stops, simply building a BRT line isn't going to change that one bit. And let's not act like COTA isn't prioritizing this route. They are planning to spend half a billion dollars over the next five years, and are hoping to have this BRT up and running in the next 7 years. It's definitely a high priority and profile project for them.
  10. That's fine. We haven't even talked much Crew-specific stuff here though. The past few pages have been discussing the fact that a large profile international game will be held at the stadium, and how the surrounding area can be built out. That all seems to be appropriate for the thread. Agreed, although that's only happened thus far to document how the finished product looks in action. Again, that seems to be appropriate for the thread.
  11. I vote we just leave it as is. Once the entire neighborhood is built out maybe we can move the thread.
  12. They should have consulted me first. What the heck?!
  13. I'm not quite sure what you are getting at. Here's specifically what I'm proposing in terms of street realignment and traffic signals: I'm not quite sure what the issue would be in terms of off-ramps. The traffic signal for the new Hocking Street would only be for right turns from Hocking onto Spring. There would be no turns to/from Long. Traffic on Long would travel down to Hanover where a new signal would be. This intersection would already need a signal in the future to allow for pedestrian crossing and increased traffic, assuming the surrounding area gets built out the way it should. If anything, it seems moving Hocking further west would be the safest option. Currently you have cars crossing Spring from a turn lane that has a slightly obstructed view of oncoming traffic, and the traffic is coming from under a railroad overpass. You also have cars pulling on to Spring from Hocking which have to deal with cars traveling at 45 mph and coming from under the same railroad overpass. Traffic will need to be slowed down a bit when the area gets built out, so this seems like a logical solution.
  14. Totally agree. This is probably what you are thinking of: Nationwide Realty also owns a 1½-acre site at the northwest corner of West Spring and Hanover streets that Ellis expects to one day develop into a high-rise akin to the Condominiums at North Bank Park and Parks Edge condominiums down the street. "We hope to have a mix of offices and residential here," he said while touring the district recently. "It could be big." https://www.dispatch.com/story/business/2021/07/02/arena-district-office-and-residential-development-far-done/7795014002/ I would guess, based off that quote, that they are envisioning something at least 15 stories, but probably more in the 20-25 story range. Hopefully they move forward on it soon! Although I'd rather see the lots across from the stadium get developed first.
  15. Yes, I think this is accurate. Based on the auditor's website, here's the current situation. The lots outlined in red are owned by NRI. The lot in the bottom right is apparently where NRI is going to build a tower similar to the North Bank Condo tower. The lot outlined in blue is owned by Arshot. My hope is that NRI can get the Arshot lot, or work with Arshot, to build out the area. My proposal would be to relocate Hocking Street to the yellow squigly lines I drew. This would allow that tiny surface lot to be included in development plans much more easily. The two existing buildings are somewhat "historical". The building to the left was originally built in 1920, and the Arshot building was originally built in 1936. Neither appear to have any historical significance as they have both undergone major renovations over the years. So we will see what eventually happens, but I can't imagine these lots will sit there for long in their current state. I could definitely see some hotel space being brought to the area as well as some parking and maybe some more residential space and office space.
  16. The smokestack appears to be complete! Well, at least this side of it. I'm assuming the other side is also complete.
  17. Yes really. Show me specifically where I bashed Cincinnati. Pointing out the fact that Cincinnati is giving up the entire ticket revenue is not bashing the city. Pointing out that the game will be somewhere else in the next qualification cycle is not bashing Cincinnati. Stop being so defensive.
  18. Show me specifically where I bashed Cincinnati.
  19. Yea it will sellout immediately. Here's a list of the other final round games of WCQ that Columbus has hosted: Oct 11, 2000 - USA 0 Costa Rica 0 - 24,430 Feb 28, 2001 - USA 2 MEX 0 - 24,329 June 13, 2004 - USA 3 Granada 0 - 10,000 Nov 17, 2004 - USA 1 Jamaica 1 - 9,088 Sep 3, 2005 - USA 2 MEX 0 - 24,685 Feb 11, 2009 - USA 2 MEX 0 - 23,776 Sep 11, 2012 - USA 1 Jamaica 0 - 23,881 Sep 10, 2013 - USA 2 MEX 0 - 24, 584 March 29, 2016 - USA 4 Guatemala 0 - 20,624 Nov 11, 2016 - USA 1 MEX 2 - 24,650 The three games that did not sellout where early round games in which the US had already qualified for the subsequent rounds.
  20. I'm not angry at all. I mentioned Cincinnati because I was discussing WCQ and the host cities. Cincinnati happens to be one of those. No you haven't known because, again, the decision wasn't made until the past couple weeks. Everyone has known Cincinnati, Columbus, and Minnesota were in the running for multiple months. They have all been negotiating with US Soccer during that time period. The number of seats played a minimal role in the decision. If it was so important, Columbus and Minnesota would have never even been considered. Again, it came to negotiations of revenue sharing. Cincinnati was fine with losing money to US Soccer so they got it. US Soccer was going to make a ton of money in whichever city agreed to their terms. I'm quite chill. You are the one who felt the need to jump into a Columbus thread and cheerlead for a completely different city and a completely different team.
  21. Keep your FCC cheerleading to the FCC threads. US Soccer was going to go to whichever city with a new stadium would give them the best deal. It was between Columbus, Minnesota, and Cincinnati. Cincinnati bit the bullet and gave US Soccer what they wanted. You haven't known anything for months because the decision was just made in the last couple weeks. Your "made for tv stadium" with a "huge amount of premium seating" is no different than the other stadiums popping up around the league, like Columbus and Minnesota. A couple thousand seats one way or the other wasn't going to make much of a difference, because all US Soccer has to do is adjust ticket prices by a couple bucks and they can still hit their revenue goal. US/Mexico is not coming back to Cincy after this. Sorry to burst your bubble. Now that they've broken tradition in Columbus, they are taking the US/Mexico show on tour. By the next WCQ round their will be new stadiums in Nashville, St. Louis, and likely Charlotte. Minnesota will also be in the mix as well as other traditional places like Kansas City. The game will go to one of those cities.
  22. The LDC will host the USMNT vs Costa Rica World Cup Qualifier in October. https://www.massivereport.com/2021/7/28/22597286/columbus-crew-lower-com-field-set-to-host-us-soccer-world-cup-qualifier-vs-costa-rica Columbus has hosted 10 WCQs (all at Historic Crew Stadium) and only lost one. Let's hope we can keep the magic alive in the new place. It should be an electric atmosphere. It sounds like Cincinnati is getting the Mexico game. Based on what I've heard, Columbus, Cincinnati, Minneapolis/St. Paul, and Austin were all in the running for the Mexico game as well as the other upcoming WCQs. For the Mexico game, US Soccer is requiring nearly 100% of the ticket revenue to be turned over to them as well as some other pretty large revenue streams. Cincinnati was willing to take the horrible financial deal in order to host the game. Austin took the easiest and cheapest deal and are hosting Jamaica. Nashville won the game against Canada. Games against Honduras and El Salvador have not yet been announced, but one of them will probably be in Minnesota. Costa Rica was by far the biggest game after the Mexico game, so it's nice that Columbus got it. As much as I would have loved to have the Mexico game here, I'm glad the city/team didn't let US Soccer take advantage of us with a crappy financial deal. Cincinnati will be a one and done Mexico host, so hopefully it's worth it for them.
  23. Is this a joke? This has to be a joke...
  24. Any tower crane evidence at the Arlington Gateway site? It's been like two whole weeks since we got a new tower crane and I'm getting impatient.
