  1. I always discuss Crew stuff on soccer-specific message boards (reddit and BigSoccer), and never think to post anything here. To your point about Cucho moving to a better league to increase his chances of making Colombia's World Cup squad, that's 100% the case. The Colombian national team coach told him he needs to be playing in a top European league if he wants a shot at making the World Cup squad. Given his age and how good he is, it was always going to be difficult to keep him here. He likely even took a bit of a pay cut to go play at Real Betis.
  2. The Dublin mailing address got me, lol.
  3. Looks like more redevelopment of suburban office space is on the way in Dublin.
  4. I don't see any reason why 8-stories shouldn't be allowed on the portion of this lot fronting 5th. I could see the argument for stepping down as you move away from 5th though. Anything above 6 stories at this spot should be tall enough to get you a pretty good view of the downtown skyline looking southeast, and the OSU skyline looking northeast.
  5. This is the type of lot I would love to see split between 2-3 different developers. If one developer tries to develop the entire lot at once, we will likely end up with a monstrosity of a building.
  6. I realized today that Bing maps has 3D imagery, similar to Google, except it's about 10-12 years outdated. Since Google's 3D imagery was updated for Columbus just a few months ago, I decided to do some side-by-side comparisons of various areas around town to really get a sense of how much has changed in a relatively short amount of time.
  7. So you want the city to demand that Ohio Health moves an entire hospital a few blocks away?
  8. So because OhioHealth is blocking off a street that was mainly used for ambulance access or Hospital employees walking from one building to another, the city should tell their centrally located Level 1 Trauma Center and major downtown employer to take a hike? That seems reasonable. If anything, their expansion is improving the urban fabric of the hospital campus. They got rid of a surface lot and built medical offices along Grant Ave., further densifying the street. They are also demolishing a parking garage along Town and replacing it with a taller hospital building which will expand the hospital's operations, create more jobs, and bring more activity to Town Street. Could they have improved various aspects of the expansion? Of course. But they are running a hospital here. They should be doing their best to build in a way that conforms to the local development guidelines but also allows them to operate as efficiently and effectively as possible.
  9. They definitely excel at building long, skinny buildings...
  10. I'm no fan of how OhioHealth has managed the Grant expansions, but purchasing the Big Lots HQ is chump change compared to the $400m they are investing in the downtown expansion.
  11. I actually don't think this one will sit vacant for too long because the surrounding area has some really good momentum right now. It's much different than the other demos you've listed. I think we see construction underway within the next five years.
  12. It's hilarious. And many of them are only being asked to go in 3-4 days a week. They act like people can't possibly get through life having to go to the office. It's a total mystery how we managed to get by for over 100 years doing just that. I have to remind myself though that a lot of people on reddit are young enough to have never worked in the corporate world before 2020. It's a totally foreign concept to them. I think once a lot of these people are forced back into the office, they'll realize it's actually easier to get their work done and progress in their career.

I've actually worked in both of those buildings at different points in my career. I never realized they were under construction at the same time.
  14. I definitely think RTO will have a positive impact this building and downtown residential occupancy in general. One of the biggest draws for living downtown is being able to walk home and skip the traffic. If you wfh, downtown doesn't provide that perk. More people working downtown will result in more people considering downtown as a place to live. RTO will also help make more businesses viable downtown, which in turn will make life better and more convenient for downtown residents.
  15. Yep, depending on what happens with that site, the 4th and Rich intersection could really be hoppin'. Hopefully that surface lot south of the Holiday Inn can be developed (there was a mid-rise proposal there pre-Covid I believe), as well as the surface lots bound by 3rd/Rich/4th.
  16. I decided to do a little more very poor "conceptual" sketches of what this area of downtown could become in the next 10-15 years with a bit of infill work on the numerous surface lots that dot the area. All the green blobs area buildings I have "envisioned" being build on certain surface lots around the area, mostly just in the 6-12 story range. I really don't think this amount of infill is too far out of the question in the next decade or so. If The Estrella can be successful and actually bring a legitimate grocery store option to the area, I think we will see this section of downtown start to take off. The proximity to two different hospitals should also help make it a desirable place for the many employees of both hospitals. The area could probably support another hotel as well due to the neighboring hospitals.
  17. Yep, 36 will be plenty to start out with. The new terminal in New Orleans only has 35 gates and they currently handle about 13m passengers per year with extra capacity to spare. DAL only has 20 gates but handles around 17m passengers in a year. The number of gates really doesn’t have a huge impact in capacity. It’s the infrastructure behind the gates that matter. You could have 50 gates that are only designed to handle regional jets and you won’t be able to handle as many passengers as 20 gates designed to handle mainline aircraft.
  18. They had one for the rental car facility. I wouldn’t be surprised if they eventually have one set up for the terminal itself.
  19. Here's an extremely rough idea of how the Estrella will fit in, as well as the planned Edwards buildings and Merchant Tower.
  20. I can’t wait for this project to get started. I’m going to have a perfect view of the progress from my office window.
  21. That's incredible news. I'm curious if we'll see Southwest expand their service a bit more once the new terminal opens. My guess is they are pretty constrained right now in Concourse A, which is the smallest of the three concourses. Hopefully they can get access to a few extra gates in the new concourse and continue to grow their presence here.
  22. For the sake of bars/restaurants in the area, I hope this doesn't happen. I want people to be incentivized to buy food and drinks outside of the stadium in order to increase the demand for local businesses.
  23. I kinda felt the same way. I never had trouble closing my laptop and switching off of work mode, but it drove me crazy just constantly being in the house. It made work feel less "real", so to speak. I get everyone is different and not everyone feels that way, but that's how I felt.
  24. Assuming your job was going to be permanently remote was insanely stupid though. I switched jobs about six months ago and I refused to consider fully remote positions at companies located outside of the Columbus area for this exact reason. I was not willing to move when the company inevitably ended wfh.
