I just took a loot at FR24, and there are about 80 commercial and charter flights flying back to the Columbus area (CMH or OSU) from the Atlanta area today after last nights game, including numerous wide-bodies. Should be a busy day at CMH!

This is not meant to be a political argument at all, I'm strictly looking at this from a statistical point of view, but there are literally tens of millions of people who are supportive of laws being considered or passed, and many millions more who simply don't care about them enough to make them turn down a good job offer. There are obviously many people who would be dissuaded from moving here, but there are more than enough people who wouldn't be dissuaded. Just look at Texas and Florida. Growing like crazy. Most of the fastest growing states lean more conservative. This isn't an endorsement of anything political, just stating the current reality of population growth around the country.

Many miles down many different roads...lol Seriously though, as I said in another thread, IF these guys and Intel can come close to realizing their full potential, our population is going to be growing like crazy. What's the estimates for Intel? 3k direct jobs and 20k indirect? Plus the potential for 4k direct and 4.5k indirect with this one. That's potentially 30k new jobs in the metro area in the next decade or so. The chances of us reaching the number are likely pretty low, but it's exciting nonetheless.

I actually think it's better being located closer the AD/Convention Center. That area is where most of visitors are going to be. I believe there's also an Experience Columbus shop at Easton and one at the airport as well.

Based on the vision they've laid out for the surrounding area, the price might be fair once that vision is fully built out. But right now, I agree. It's pretty steep. There's definitely enough people in this city with the money to pay these prices, but I think the surrounding amenities need to improve.

Yep, it's definitely bad. That corner is really bad. But my point was that they at least used multiple different facades along the entire massive city block they were building on. That's something nobody else has really done here. Not only do we need varied facades, but also varied heights. That is something Edwards failed to do with the Nicholas. I know it increases construction costs, but it creates such a better end product.

Yes, the Nicholas has three very distinct larger facades with two distinct smaller facades. Are the designs/materials as good as they should be? No, absolutely not. But they actually made a building an entire block long that doesn't have the same facade the entire way. So credit where credit is due there. Compare it to the Normandy buildings, Industry, Xander, High Pointe, etc. and I'd say they did a pretty good job of varying the facade.

Edwards at least attempted this at Gay+High. It was only about 1/4-1/3 successful, but at least they made an attempt.

That's my hope! It should definitely be a popular spot once the walkway is finished and the other buildings go up. It's probably just going to be a bit of a drawn out process. The Broad/4th intersection should hopefully be much busier within the next five years though.

We have some very underrated metro parks down here in the SE portion of the metro area. Tall Pines, Chestnut Ridge, and Slate Run are all very good metro parks. Slate Run has a great "living farm" from the 1800s if you've never been, and Chestnut Ridge has a vantage point that provides a view of the downtown skyline on a clear day. Great pics by the way!

That's not true at all. He has played in every game Miami has played on turf since he arrived that he was healthy for or not on international duty.

They do outsource a ton of jobs though. I know of a couple corporations locally who were acquired by PE and hundreds of jobs ended up getting outsourced to India. It sucks, but it makes the cost of operation much cheaper.

There's so much turnover with locally owned retail, restaurants, bars, coffee shops, etc. Those are such difficult businesses to operate, especially in the SN where rents are high and competition is fierce. You are always going to have places closing, but the space rarely sits vacant for long. How many vacant storefronts are there in the SN? Like totally vacant, not a place not currently open because reno work is in process. There aren't many.

So I hopped on Google Maps and to get the lay of the land in terms of retail in the Short North. There are currently around 30 various types of apparel shops between 670 and 5th Avenue. Almost none are big national brands but there's plenty of apparel options. There are also 25-30 assorted retail locations (candle shops, jewelers, furniture, etc.) as well as around 10 art galleries still in operation. There are also numerous tattoo shops, beauty parlors (hair, nails, etc.), banks, etc. I'm totally on board with the desire for the SN to be more than just a bar/restaurant district, and I think having a few more national brands might be nice, but I think the neighborhood is fairly well diversified in terms of its mix of uses.

Yea, this weekend was probably one of the absolute worst weekends to use to gauge the foot traffic in the SN.

The angle makes the crane appear taller than it is. I was at Stories on High last night (bar at the top of the Hilton) and had a perfect view of merchant tower. We were higher than the crane by a decent amount. Next crane jump should put it about even though. Merchant tower is definitely making its presence known though!
