Can someone remind me of the actual height of the building?

It would have to be self climbing. Is it even possible to build a 300+ foot crane without it being self climbing?

Cleveland Hopkins International Airport
As others have mentioned, subsidies is really the only way CLE will get one of these flights and subsidies are the reason these other cities have them. Additionally, ridership numbers at CLE are not much different than CVG, PIT, IND, or even CMH. CLE and PIT seem to trade places every year in terms of who has higher passenger traffic. IND was only 200k behind CLE last year. Columbus (CMH+LCK) is only about 1M behind and gaining ground every year. CVG is also about 1M behind has increased quite a bit in recent years. All of the region's main airports are very similar in terms of passenger traffic. There's really not one that's head and shoulders above the others.

Columbus: Polaris Developments and News
cbussoccer replied to buildingcincinnati's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionThere’s also a hotel under construction behind Costco right now. I was up there around Christmas and they had a crane up for it. I think it was a Home2 Suites but I can’t remember for sure. Polaris is really booming right now. Just passing through on 71 is pretty impressive as you can see quite a bit of on going construction and recently wrapped up projects.

Columbus: Downtown: Arena District Developments and News
cbussoccer replied to CMH_Downtown's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionThis one probably needs to be tall enough to safely clear the 12-story building next door. The OSU cranes are quite a bit taller than the buildings because they need to be able to safely clear each other. You can see a good example of this if you go over to the airport right now. They are only building a 4-story parking garage, but the tallest crane is about 175' because it has to clear the other two cranes.

cbussoccer replied to CMH_Downtown's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionYay cranes! 200' Crane: 125' building: Looks like we are probably going to be pretty crane-heavy around the 670 corridor come summertime. If everything gets started and moving as planned, we could see cranes up for this, the Hilton, Market Tower, the new Westminster tower (I'm guessing they would use a tower crane), and potentially the Jeffrey Park tower if that gets started this year. There will also be crawler cranes for the new Crew stadium, Chipotle office, and Covermymeds HQ. Assuming some Scioto Peninsula projects get started sooner rather than later, we might see a tower crane or two for that as well. The crane for Gravity 2 will also be easily visible from 670.

Columbus: Downtown: Franklin County Government Center Projects
They contract for projects that are necessary for the purpose of their department. Ground floor retail is totally irrelevant to the courthouse being able to accomplish what they are meant to accomplish.

How would a government agency even go about leasing out space? Anytime they undertake a project they issue an RFP and select the applicant who can sufficiently accomplish the project for the best possible price. This is done with the thought that it will eliminate preferential treatment and kick backs and all that good stuff that still manages to happen anyway. How would they do something similar with retail space though? Award the space to whatever entity offers them the highest monthly rent? That makes no sense. I get where people are coming from that want retail space included in these projects, but it's simply not appropriate.

All city rankings should be taken with a large grain of salt.

Let's not pretend Dorrian Commons was anything special folks. It's 50% concrete with a smaller grassy area covered by a few trees. I'm a huge proponent of good urban pocket parks, but this was not one of them. It's totally reasonable for the county to want strategically locate their buildings. Rather than complaining about this "park" being removed, I think it would be more beneficial in the long run for us to pressure the city to bring Franklin Commons on Mound Street and the grass lot at the corner of High up to an acceptable standard. I do feel the city has really been making an effort over the past ~10 years to prioritize public park spaces in the downtown area. They turned City Center mall into green space. They worked a miracle with the river front. They turned barren parking lots behind COSI into a relatively large park area. Vets Memorial went from being a cold ugly building into a building with a good deal of green space. They included good chunk of green space with the 8-story development next to the Police HQ/City Hall. We obviously need to keep improving, but a lot of progress has been made recently.

Do we have any idea how big this new building could be?

Columbus: Downtown: Franklin County Government Center Projects
If you read the article it should answer your questions. They want to put the new building in this location to more easily connect all of their buildings, which is understandable. I'm always in favor of more urban parks, but this one was not all that great. Yes there were some trees around the perimeter, but it was mostly just concrete with a little fountain in the middle. I would rather see them turn the grass lot at Main and High into a more useful park.

New Municipal Courthouse to replace Downtown park at South High and Mound streets A new Franklin County Municipal Courthouse would be constructed Downtown on the site of Dorrian Commons, a county-owned park on the southeast corner of South High and Mound streets, under a plan being negotiated by county and city officials. The site also would include the land occupied by the James A. Karnes Building, immediately south of the park, meaning the new courthouse property would stretch along South High from Mound to Fulton streets. https://www.thisweeknews.com/news/20200123/new-municipal-courthouse-to-replace-downtown-park-at-south-high-and-mound-streets

Cincinnati/NKY International Airport
Furthermore, most of those cuts were the removal of a fairly low cost option in Southwest. Now, they are left with only a handful of seasonal flights from a low-cost airline with Allegiant. CVG's low average fare is obviously driven by the fact that Allegiant and Frontier both use it as a "focus" city. CMH's average would probably be a bit lower if Allegiant were flying there instead of LCK, but I can't imagine it would bump it down too much. It would be interesting to see how the averages would compare if you exclude the ultra low cost (Frontier, Spirit, Allegiant) airlines from the equation. That measurement would be more useful in terms of determining the average cost of business travel.

Columbus: Random Development and News
cbussoccer replied to Summit Street's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionI'm not sure exactly where this project should go, so I'm throwing it in this thread. Casto proposes 30-acre mixed-use development on Columbus' eastern border A new mixed-use development proposed for a nearly 30-acre site in Jefferson Township would add housing options and a potential hotel to the easternmost edge of Columbus. Casto wants to build a project called Killarney Woods on 28.9 acres in the 8400 block of East Broad Street, near the intersection with Taylor Road. The site is part of a thin stretch of Jefferson Township that sits between the easternmost Columbus city border, Pataskala's western edge, and Reynoldsburg's northern edge. The developer is not seeking annexation into any of the surrounding cities. The project would feature 200 multi-family units, including 176 garden and 24 townhome apartments starting at 650 and 1,150 square feet, respectively, according to plans submitted to Franklin County, which must approve an exceptional use zoning change to allow the development to move forward. Casto also plans to build some commercial space, which would include either retail space or a hotel, the developer said in an application. Drawings submitted show this space would mainly be along East Broad Street in front of the AT&T corporate office, with some small retail lots and the larger hotel. But specifics about this portion of the development weren't submitted. https://www.bizjournals.com/columbus/news/2020/01/22/casto-proposes-30-acre-mixed-use-development-on.html?iana=hpmvp_colum_news_headline
