Columbus: Children's Hospital Projects
cbussoccer replied to CMH_Downtown's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionNBBJ has filed a Preliminary Plan Review application for a new 7-story research building on the NCH Campus. Based on the description and the address, it appears to be building number 6 from the strategic plan map for the campus. Here is a screenshot from a video NCH made explaining the strategic plan. I believe the green building on the left is what will be built. It appears to have 7-stories in this conceptual rendering.

They changed the angle of the construction cam: It's pretty cool to see the recent mid-rise buildings that have gone up along High Street from here. The views from the stadium are going to be really cool no matter which way you look. I can't wait!

Columbus: Downtown: Arena District Developments and News
cbussoccer replied to CMH_Downtown's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionProbably true, although the amount of development they've undertaken over the last decade is impressive. How many residential units have they built downtown and at Grandview Yard in the past 10 years? It's got to be around 2,000 units across the two different areas.

Columbus: Downtown: Arena District Developments and News
cbussoccer replied to CMH_Downtown's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionFrom the article: The building's exterior will feature two stories of brick facade with glass on the upper floors, designed to "connect seamlessly" with the architecture of the first two buildings, according to the email. It sounds like it will look exactly like the other two buildings, just two floors shorter.

cbussoccer replied to CMH_Downtown's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionObviously disappointing that they didn't go higher, although that was always going to be a long shot assuming they wanted to mesh this with everything else around the park. The fact that we've seen two 12-story buildings and one 10-story building go up right next to each other over the course of just a few years is a pretty good sign. These would have been 6-story buildings just seven or eight years ago. Hopefully they will go higher on some of their other undeveloped parcels, such as the vacant lot at the NW corner of Spring and Hannover.

Columbus: Italian Village: Jeffrey Park Development
cbussoccer replied to Summit Street's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionIt looks like we will get some updates on the future Jeffrey Park mid-rise at next week's IV Commission meeting. From the agenda: New Construction mixed used building will contain the following: o 7 story parking garage o 5 story 200 unit apartment wrapping the garage with fully integrated balconies o First floor lobby with reception, leasing, and restaurant o Elevator to serve the apartments and rooftop amenity space on the 8th floor o Class A office on the 8th-11th floors I'm glad they are wrapping the 7 floors of parking with 5 floors apartments (I'm assuming the apartments will completely cover the parking from street view), but it's a shame they couldn't stack the 5 floors of apartments in with the 7 floors of parking and 4 floors of office to create a 15-16 story structure. Regardless, I never expected to see an 11 story structure here and I'm excited to hopefully see some updated renderings.

Cleveland Hopkins International Airport
True. However, I'm wondering how much business travel will actually take place on a twice weekly Sun Country route. I would guess most SW business travelers would either chose one of the ~4 daily flights on Delta, or be on a company jet. I guess if employees Valspar employees are transferred to Cleveland, a low cost Sunday/Friday flight is a good option for getting back home to visit family. Regardless, more low cost options is always good!

Columbus: General Business & Economic News
Columbus' humming economy poised for growth, Federal Reserve predicts Columbus' unemployment rate notably hit an 18-year low of 3.3% in June and has been below 4% for more than two years even as its workforce has grown. The city's per capita GDP is almost $6,000 higher today than it was in 2007, the researchers found, and it's seen faster GDP growth than the national average since the Great Recession. "The Columbus metro area’s unemployment rate is low and falling even as the labor force expands," the researchers said. "The labor force in the Columbus metro area has grown by about 10,000 people this year, as people continue to be attracted to the area by the strong job prospects, driven by growth in the government, construction and transportation sectors." Steady growth brought 12,400 jobs to the region in the 12 months through March, on par with the national growth rate, with construction surging 5.3% and government and financial services offsetting slower numbers in education and health services. The Fed researchers highlighted the region's housing market too. The median home value, at $195,400, rose 6.9% year-over-year in August and has outpaced both state and national averages. Home prices here, the Fed economists noted, are affordable relative to the national average, but expensive for Ohio. https://www.bizjournals.com/columbus/news/2019/11/04/columbus-humming-economy-poised-for-growth-federal.html?iana=hpmvp_colum_news_headline

If you read the comment I quoted it said “They (Columbus and Pittsburgh) see and get subsidies” in response to the question of what Alaska Airlines sees in Columbus and Pittsburgh that they don’t see in Cleveland. I simply added to the comment about subsidies by saying that the flights between Seattle and Columbus have been mostly full since its inception and that there’s no reason the same demand wouldn’t exist in Cleveland. Stop trying to create an unnecessary argument. If you would have simply read the preceding comments that related to mine it would have been pretty clear what I was saying.- John Glenn Columbus International Airport
September stats are out and CMH continues it's solid growth. Allegiant at LCK has fallen off slightly compared to last year. September CMH 2018: 648,346 LCK 2018: 18,752 Tot. 2018: 667,098 CMH 2019: 695,409 LCK 2019: 15,796 Tot. 2019: 711,205 CMH Var.:+ 7.2% LCK Var.: -15.8% Tot. Var.: +6.6% Year to Date CMH 2018: 6,038,337 LCK 2018: 252,125 Tot. 2018: 6,290,462 CMH 2019: 6,422,240 LCK 2018: 247,133 Tot. 2019: 6,669,373 CMH Var.: +6.4% LCK Var.: -2.0% Tot. Var.: +6.0% As you can see, CMH is continuing a healthy growth for a second year in a row, although our rate of growth is slightly behind our rate of growth through this point last year. CMH is on pace to hit ~8.7M for the year with LCK likely coming in close to 300k. Next year, CMH should eclipse the 9M mark even with a drastic reduction in the rate of growth. We should only need to ridership to grow by about 3% next year to hit the 9M mark. Additionally, CMH continues to inch closer to CVG. CVG is about 7% larger the CMH, and about 3% larger than CMH+LCK through September of this year. CVG has added a couple new direct flights recently, so it will be interesting to see how well CMH can continue to close the gap once those come into play.- Columbus: Brewery District Developments and News
Oh wow. I never thought we would get something in the 15-22 story range in the Brewery District so that would be awesome.
