It seems they have come up with these two proposals, put them out into the interwebs, and are just hoping they can get some large office tenant to bite. If that doesn't happen, they will never build anything.

I would actually consider the Greystone Apartments to be urban, unless it’s the surface lot next to the apartments you are talking about. Greystone is actually “mixed-use” given it has ground floor retail and provides a nice little “pocket park” in the Short North. The Kroger is about as urban as you can get with a grocery store in a car centric city. Your point stands though. The non-urban sites are very few and dwindling fast!

To your point about available area, that's a huge factor when comparing Columbus to Cincinnati and Cleveland. Cincinnati's CBD is much smaller than Columbus. It's essentially 8 blocks by 8 blocks. Cleveland's CBD is pretty long and narrow, essentially about 12 blocks by 6 blocks. The Columbus CBD is about 12 blocks by 15 blocks, much larger than Cincinnati and a decent chunk larger than Cleveland. We have seen a good base of ~6 story buildings go up in the past few years. Now we are starting to bump things up to 12 stories. The next step is to start adding in some 20-30 story towers like Hilton 2.0, Market Tower, and hopefully this one.

What I'm saying is you should be encouraged by the fact that they are working with a smaller area. This should hopefully force them to build up higher. I think a 25-story building at the corner of 3rd and State is a very realistic expectation. In terms of being frustrated, I understand it to a degree but I don't think you should be too down in the dumps. Columbus has a solid amount of buildings on the taller end of the spectrum. We have 10 of the 20 tallest buildings in the state. We have 5 buildings over 500 feet (Cleveland has 4, Cincy has 2) and 10 buildings over 400 feet (Cleveland has 10 and Cincy has 7). What we lack, and what make our city feel inferior from a skyline and urban feel perspective, is the number of buildings we have in the 250-400 foot range. We only have 12 buildings in that range, with 3 more on campus. Cleveland has 25 in that range and Cincy has 23. We currently have Hilton 2.0 and Market tower both in the 250-400 range that are about to go up. We have Millennial Tower (lol) that is still a possibility. We have a tower (~20 stories I believe?) that has been floated at the southeast corner of 4th and State. We have a 15-story tower that has been talked about next to the Holiday Inn which would be borderline 250 feet. If this development lands us at least a 20-25 story tower we could end up with a handful of towers in the 250-400 foot range all going up within a few years of each other, and that's just what we know of publicly right now. I don't know about you, but that's pretty encouraging. Even more encouraging is the fact that we are trending up instead of down right now.

If we are concerned about getting as much height as possible, it's probably a good thing they are only working with the red areas. Like I've said many times before, and as others have said in this thread, larger areas of development often result in a lower overall height. Parcel #010-011312, and the three skinny parcels north of it, is a good footprint size to force them to go vertical.

Or, on the contrary, having the new Crew Stadium look completely different than everything else in the AD could potentially break NRI out of their brick box design for the remaining areas of the neighborhood. In terms of the last remaining lot behind Park's Edge, I could see it going either direction. I really wouldn't mind if they mirror the the 7-story buildings for the sake of symmetry, but I would love something tall and all glass.

cbussoccer replied to CMH_Downtown's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionI just visited r/Columbus and one of the most recent posts was this site plan for the redevelopment of Westland Mall. In the comments of the post, the OP says he received this picture from a friend who does construction, and that they will begin tearing the mall down soon. Obviously the validity of this remains to be seen. It's difficult to make out what exactly will be included in terms of the mix of uses, but it appears there will be some event space, some park space, and a soccer field. It looks like 5 parking garages will be included, so depending on the size of those garages this could be a fairly dense development.

Ignoring all economic factors, I would love to see it replaced with a taller and more interesting building. This is one of the most prime locations in downtown given it's proximity to the river, River District, and the center of downtown.

21 years ago Lamar Hunt broke ground for a new $28.5M stadium. Without the stadium, Columbus would have lost the team. Today, we break ground on a beautiful new $300M downtown stadium. Without this stadium, and the Haslam and Edwards families, we would lose the team.

As far as I know, this will just be a temporary location as the stadium is being built. You will be able to go in to get info on the stadium, sign up for season tickets, etc. I would love to see them maintain a team store in the Short North though. Going along with what @DTCL11 said, it would probably work better if they were able do something like teaming up with the Blue Jackets to share a space where they could sell officially licensed gear.

The Licking County community's city council voted 5-1 this week in favor of the six-month moratorium, which would block all residential development plan proposals within its borders. The council said more time was needed to study the costs and impacts of new developments and if new impact fees are needed. City Manager BJ King said the measure was approved as the city has about 1,069 new housing units either seeking approval or under construction. "We have been facing some very strong residential growth pressures," King said. "This is not an anti-growth vote, it's a 'hey, we have all these people coming and we have to figure out how to improve our infrastructure to accommodate this' (vote)." Pataskala's population in 2018 was 15,780, up 5.7% from 14,962 recorded in 2010, according to estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau. The city includes 5,449 households with a 72.6% owner-occupied housing rate and a $166,900 median value of owner-occupied units. Figuring the average household size of 2.5 residents, the housing units currently under construction or seeking approval could translate to more than 2,700 new residents – an 18% population surge, King said. Yes, I did have you confused with someone else. I apologize. Probably because you quoted a comment of mine to someone else totally unrelated to the your point I previously addressed. In your snarky attempt to prove me wrong by quoting me in an unrelated response, you actually proved my point I was originally making to you. Orlando City has been very bad the whole time they've been in MLS, and have constantly been sliding downward in season ticket numbers, announced attendance, and actual attendance. Similarly, the Reds and Bengals have both been experiencing the same issue, though they are further along the path of extended periods of failure on the field.

Very mature. My point still stands though. The Bengals have been awful for nearly three straight decades and are still a MUCH bigger deal in the Cincinnati metro area in terms of attendance, TV ratings, merchandise sales, etc. If you think FCC is on the same level, you are delusional.
