^ Wow! That is a good looking proposal! Next year is going to be HUGE if everything gets underway that is supposed to.

Columbus: Downtown: Lower.com Field / Astor Park
Wouldn't surprise me at all if the team does something Monday, although I haven't heard anything suggesting that. Tuesday is the latest we should see renderings though.

cbussoccer replied to CMH_Downtown's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionThe amount of scholarship given to athletes is tightly controlled by the NCAA. You can’t just give out more scholarship. Seriously though, why can’t the lacrosse teams have their own facility paid for by funds raised by them other than the fact that JO is there?

cbussoccer replied to CMH_Downtown's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionWhats the harm in building a stadium? They raised the money themselves. By your logic, they might as well just have men’s and women’s soccer, men’s and women’s lacrosse, women’s field hockey, and the track team all compete in The Shoe. After all, why do we need any other stadiums?

Cleveland SC Soccer Stadium
As much as I would love for Cleveland to have an MLS team (having two teams so close to Columbus would be amazing) it is highly unlikely to ever happen. If it does happen, it will be decades from now. With current and already approved expansion teams, MLS is up to 28 teams. Sacramento has not been approved yet for expansion, but is likely to be soon. Then you have cities like Detroit, Indianapolis, Louisville, Charlotte, Raleigh-Durham, Phoenix, Vegas, and San Diego that are way ahead of Cleveland in terms of landing a team. The best hope for Cleveland is that MLS decides to expand to a total of 40 teams and then implement a two tier system where teams are promoted/relegated between the two tiers each season, just like most countries around the world. Even then, it will be tough for Cleveland to sneak in.

Cleveland: Downtown: Sherwin-Williams Headquarters
So if Columbus gives them a sweetheart deal they won't take it?

Cleveland: Downtown: Sherwin-Williams Headquarters
Given that Columbus was a finalist for Amazon HQ2, I wonder if they could repackage (and trim down) the incentives they pulled together for Amazon to try to lure SW. This would be a HUGE addition for the city, and I'm sure if they have legit opportunity they will be working head over heals to make it happen. With that being said, I think it will likely be tough for anyone to lure SW away from downtown Cleveland.

Who’s to say some of that ground floor space can’t be converted in the future if need be? It seems it would be pretty simple to add a couple restaurant spaces if they want to.

Columbus: Downtown: Lower.com Field / Astor Park
From the article: "A timeline for the build-out of the mixed-use development that will occupy the western portion of the site is still up in the air, according to Dangerfield." According the rendering, it looks like this is just "Phase 1" for the mixed-use portion. It also seems that they are planning to expand north given the depiction of the road extending in that direction.

Sure, they could have added a bit of office space, but I think they wanted them to have the "exclusive" feel given how expensive the condos are. I agree on the design. They look good and are a nice change from what NRI almost always does. They provide a small sliver of hope for NRI breaking the mold on other projects in the future.

Spring Street is not very conducive of ground floor retail/restaurant space. Anything there likely would have struggled.

^ Apparently some people have been involved in some 'focus groups' that the Front Office has done with some fans. They say they've seen the renderings and are very impressed. I'm assuming we will see the renderings by the 24th of this month at the latest, because I believe the team will be presenting their plan to the Downtown Commission. Based on rumors, it will not disappoint.

Columbus: Downtown: Arena District Developments and News
cbussoccer replied to CMH_Downtown's post in a topic in Central & Southeast Ohio Projects & ConstructionI refuse to believe that it will be anything less than 30-stories because that's what I want. On a separate note...I wonder if/when we will see the numerous one story suburban-style office buildings west of Neil be replaced by taller and more urban structures. With Crew stadium being built, along with its surrounding mixed-use development, these lots will continue to increase in value. I think a hotel (or mixed-use building which includes a hotel component) would do great along Nationwide between Hanover and Neil. A hotel at the corner of Nationwide and Neil would have an awesome view of Huntington Park, be very close to the new Crew Stadium, Nationwide Arena, and Express Live, and reasonably to the Convention Center/North Market. I'm sure it would get a ton of business from out of town sports fans and concert-goers, and depending on the quality it could be the primary option for visiting sports teams and musicians.
