Cincinnati: Fountain Square: Development and News
Agree, there needs to be more affordable, fast casual options especially for a number of the conventions that come to town. There has to be places for convention goers to grab quick lunch options or even affordable dinners. I am all about chef driven restaurants but there are plenty in the CBD and OTR to fill that niche. CBD needs a fast food option again. I can hear groans from many, but there is a large segment of the population that still frequent and enjoy them. When Wendy's and even Taco Bell were open downtown, you couldnt get near them at lunch time. It was dinner and weekends that hurt there numbers.

Covelli for over two years begged the City to help them ongoing issues at the Panera. The site is going to be hard to fill. I was talking to some OGs, who told me it was similar when Arby's use to be located at that corner. They had people coming in sitting in the dining room, sleeping, aggravating paying customers. Others using the restrooms for anything but 1 or 2. Panera had so much theft also at this location, the urban experiment for Covelli soured and they pulled out. Shame because they catered a ton in and around the downtown area. Covid just gave them the perfect escape plan.

The still haven't finished the rain screen install on the first building in the development. Talk about major back log on building material.

Last discussions are still in the 800 room area.

You misunderstood what I was saying, I was saying we wouldnt see another, Hilton, Marriott, Westin or Hyatt. As i suggested we could see a JW Marriott since the flag is not in use in the region. I honestly think Conrad is out of the question though, since Hilton is primarily using the brand for resorts and more exclusive locations now.

Yes, the idea is to get smaller-mid sized but higher end conventions, with a nicer higher end property it can create a nice niche market where our surrounding competition is going for the bigger across the board conventions.

Yeah hoping the developer and management team are learning from there mistakes. Let alone UC, hopefully is putting a foot to throats in order for better quality standards and practices.

The Deacon, was a prime example of bad "VE" they built that cheap and fast, and they are paying the price since its not holding up to college kids first time away from home.

Kind of confused, because we were brought in to make the improvements to the Hilton Netherland. Hilton wanted new carpet, wall covering, window treatments and soft seating and other minor updates in the rooms. Our team wanted to upgrade furniture but Hilton said it wasnt needed. We then went above and beyond and made updates to all ballrooms and conference spaces. Hilton team in DC was satisfied with the upgrades. The biggest issue with the hotel is ever since they lost Chef Todd Kelly, Orchids just hasnt been as nice as it once was.

In my circle it sounds like 3CDC is waiting for selecting developer/operator before choosing hotel franchise banner. Some solid brands stick out that would really elevate the convention experience in the city. Marriott, (JW Marriott (INDY), Sheraton) Hilton, (Signia by Hilton (Indy)) Loews, Omni (Nashville, Louisville), IHG (Intercontinental). We already have Hyatt, Westin, Hilton and the Marriott is across the river so those cant be in play.

I am doing a status match with American. I have been a diamond for about 5 years with Delta, but service offerings have been harder to come by with them out of CVG. I was hoping SFO, ORD, and DFW would have been brought back but they pushed them off again. AA bringing RDU is a punch in the gut to DL since that was a busy connector route they didnt bring back after COVID.

Cincinnati: Downtown: Carew Tower
Early, off the record discussions with HCB they were adamantly against the chain link look for the observation deck. So we looked at developing a plexi-glass or even glass surround with new decking and elevate the experience. Then covid hit.

CVG was trying to court BA with a flight to LHR. BA is looking for the largest handout from NA cities to start flights. PIT ponied up cash, i just doubt CVG and the region are going to do the same. Unless American continues to build up flights and additional destinations it could be beneficial. I consider LHR out of the question for the time being.

I doubt the observation deck will reopen. Prior to covid we were working on a new jump barrier design for the Warm family. To help mitigate people trying to commit suicide and lower insurance rates. Covid happened and they closed the observation deck, and decided to keep it closed. They have had too many incidence where people having made it their final jumping off point...

Well they could use it toward the entry condition into the building and a new marquee, which would follow under allowable use of TIF funds without causing too much heartburn...

It makes me happy there are traditional Belgian dishes on the dinner menu again. Starting to worry that ToB was becoming to commercialized. Will have to give the new menu a try sometime soon.

Cincinnati: Brent Spence Bridge
Why wouldnt you keep the CWB bridge? If there comes a day when the Roebling is shut down to vehicular traffic you still have the CWB facilitating the traffic between both river cities. CWB is heavily used, it would be foolish to remove. Especially with the new mega development in Covington at the old IRS site.

That would be fantastic, I just hope they can find a better architect for the design of the parking garage portion. I cringe driving or walking down central and looking up at the east side of the 1010 building, looks like it was completely forgotten and never properly designed/thought out, so it was never executed properly in the field.

Cincinnati: Over-the-Rhine: Development and News
I don't disagree, but the development is moving much slower north of liberty. I bring family through the city and everyone loves south vine and then we cross over liberty and its the same comment every time, "where the hell are we now? this looks war torn" I always reassure them that the south part looked just as ugly as the north part looks now.

Cincinnati: Over-the-Rhine: Development and News
It would really help if the city, would plan to do an updated streetscape on North Vine Street, help push progress along on that stretch of road.

Well the rumors I heard were true like I mentioned earlier this summer, this is why the other hotel project has been struggling to be approved and get off the ground on Central across from the stadium...
