  1. I thought I read somewhere that since they bought the PINS downtown building that they were planning on putting the 16 bit games there, maybe on the 2nd floor? I guess they bought the PINS building due to the delay in the Peninsula buildings where they were originally going to go.
  2. Crane accident closing 70E until approximately noon. https://www.nbc4i.com/news/local-news/columbus/crane-accident-closes-i-70-in-downtown-columbus/
  3. Seems like it might be worth a 311 call were someone so inclined. Nothing wrong with holding developers feet to the fire if they promise something to the city and aren't delivering.
  4. I believe they had 6 billion in revenue and 422 million in profit. Figures are from memory and should be considered approximations.
  5. That part of the road is 2 way to allow access to Civic Center drive. The rest of Mound is one way.
  6. Maybe Dirty Frank's could move into the Hadley's space. With 16 bit moving eventually to the peninsula, that would limit the damage to the existing businesses in the area. Only the psychic would be out of luck, and you would have thought they'd seen this coming.
  7. I've heard a rumor of a new arts facility for the Columbus symphony for that piece of land, but not clear to me how much fire is behind that smoke.
  8. I actually have a bet with my wife about how many buildings 15 stories or higher will be built or in the process of being built between 2020 and 2030. I say 17. She says 12.
  9. Bombulum, eh? Interesting choice of LLC name. https://worldofdictionary.com/dict/latin-english/meaning/bombulum
  10. https://www.bizjournals.com/columbus/news/2022/01/28/huntington-steve-steinour-fy2021-earnings.html Interesting quote at the end of this article. Steve Steinour is CEO of Huntinton bank, and also Co-Chair of the Columbus partnership. Kenny is Kenny McDonald, the new CEO of the Columbus Partnership. "This Intel announcement is huge, but Kenny and team will have other announcements coming in the course of ’22," Steinour told Business First. "It’s a very exciting time to be here in Central Ohio."
  11. I was walking my dog by Bicentennial park about 3 AM or so when I saw the smoke. All the emergency equipment I saw was on the peninsula itself. If there is no damage, I have no reasonable explanation. It looked like something was burning directly to the west of the office building. The timing of the house fire doesn't really explain what I saw.
  12. There are several cars regularly parking in the Matan, and there appear to be some occupied apartments based on lights at night. Could they finally be moving in residents?
  13. There was a fire last night, it appeared from one of the buildings going up on the peninsula. I couldn't see which one from my vantage point, but there was significant smoke and emergency vehicles there.
  14. Does anyone know if Moody Nolan has the experience to design an urban tower? The portfolio on their website doesn't inspire confidence. Outside the 26 story OSU hospital expansion, it looks like the tallest buildings they've done are the Short North Moxy, and the Bridge Park AC Hotel. It just doesn't seem like the firm you'd hire if you were really interested in something with significant height.
  15. I'm really curious about the office space numbers they're throwing around. 2 million square feet is huge, and putting the remaining 1.75 million in just 17 remaining acres would suggest both high towers, and alot of jobs. Is this just aspirational from CDDC, or do they have a line on an employer who wants to move downtown from another location, or move to Columbus from another location? I think there are only what, 13 million square feet of class A office space in the downtown? This would be a really significant expansion, if it happens.
  16. I notice they have a placeholder building in that triangle of land where they were planning the zoo expansion. I wonder if they have something planned for that space that isn't announced yet. Also, this development is on over a third of the land that they have to develop, and yet barely has 10% of the office space planned. That would suggest future phases should have much taller office buildings, yes?
  17. It's certainly possible I'm wrong, but my recollection from contemperaneous CU and Dispatch articles is that the original proposal was unsolicited, and the authority couldn't accept or deny a proposal without putting out a request for other proposals. I don't know for sure, but I don't think they ever had any intent, or desire, for a tower in that location. I see what you're saying regarding the size of the current addition, but again, I think they've been savvy in their additions, never overbuilding, and leaving opportunities for growth in the future; thus the update and expansion as currently available, and the upcoming Hilton expansion. That's also why I'm expecting a big proposal around 2022-2024 involving the east side parking lot, which I expect to be a field house to compete for bigger events, up to and including the mens's Final Four, and simlar size events. I'd like to re-iterate this is supposition on my part, but based on what they've done over the last 10 years or so, I think's it is a reasonable extrapolation.
  18. The towers on the north side of the convention center would have required loss of space, which I think made it a non-starter for the convention authority; they were never going to give up valuable convention center space for a hotel owned by someone else, particularly just when they were looking to expand the center. However, that lot across the street could hold a very nice tower, either hotel or housing, with a connection to the Goodale garage. As for the field house, it wouldn't surprise me at all to hear that one re-proposed 2-3 years after the Hilton expansion is completed, probably with another hotel attached. The convention authority has really been quite savvy with their expansion plans.
  19. I have heard from 2 different people that Cover my meds is breaking ground in May.
  20. Thank goodness Buckingham is out. Their "vision" was completely uninspired. I think this new approach will lead to a more architecturally diverse and interesting neighborhood, HQ2 or no. Now let's hope CDDC learned from the Highpoint debacle, and won't take the first offer that's put in front of them.
  21. Between this, Market Tower, and Millenium tower, it kind of takes away the Scioto Peninsula developers argument that the Columbus market doesn't need 20+ story buildings. Man, I hope they revisit that plan, it would be a shame to miss out on an opportunity to build tall on that side of the river. Maybe if we get HQ2 they'll triple the size of all the buildings over there.
  22. It's nice to see 80 on the Commons going up there on the right, and directly behind the center of this building is where the new 15 story building will rise. 80 on the Commons is supposed to be complete around the end of September, right around the time the 15 story tower will be getting started.
  23. I like the rendering, but in the article they mention 1500 residences, on the lower end of the 1500-1800 suggested, and have cut retail from a recommended 180,000 sq ft to just 82,000, while upping office space from 800,000 to 1.2 million sq feet. I'm not sure I'm a fan of those changes.
  24. Well, if that wasn't the winner, then I have high hopes that I'll love the actual announcement even more. Here's hoping we hear about it soon; I had thought the announcement was due by the end of the July.
