Thursday 25 October. Due to the large amount of rebars and the depth of the rebar space, I believe this foundation will be a floating slab.

How about the surface lot across the street from the Beacon that “replaced” the Hippodrome theater?

Well so be it! Foundation technology has advanced the slab foundation to carrying taller buildings. This makes it a choice for whatever reasons. The master of skyscraper foundations in Cleveland, Mr. Lewin, told me that at the excavation for the National City Bank Building many years ago as he was supervising the pour of the slab.

I believe this building will not have pilings but will be placed on a “floating” concrete slab. This is a typical foundation for Cleveland buildings that are 400 feet or less. Taller buildings must be placed on pilings driven to bedrock. However, I believe, the Hilton Hotel was built on piles. In the 400’ range, the foundation could be either except pilings are much more expensive.

At least PNC has a plaza and open space. Nothing else on that corner does.

If only there was the money to convert it to light rail. But I do know it can be converted. Wisn there would be some help from the Fed, but not under this administration. It would be a great infrastructure improvement.

Absolutely. The C&H building has footings that can support about a twenty floor building. A developer named Wygamore proposed, in 1958 or so, such an addition. Obviously, it was never built, the victim of another building/bust from that time. It is still waiting for someone!

Wow, The Park at $310,000. We almost bought there years ago and the prices were a lot less. Like they say, location, location..

They may have to rent those units for less when Beacon blocks their views.
