Coleman stated that the recycling program would be created through a public input process this year and is currently proposing a system that would combine recycling and yard waste on a rotation schedule. State Street, has abruptly closed after a 6 1/2 year run, to become another undisclosed restaurant. A sign was posted on the window by General Manager Joey Jerome thanking the public for their patronage. Joey has left the door open for a new restaurant as he wrote on his posting. “Watch for a new, delicious restaurant to open here soon.” READ MORE: http://www.columbusunderground.com/san-francisco-oven-closing-and-transforming
11. Spending a Year With City Year Columbus By Walker | February 23, 2010 If you’ve spend much time Downtown in the past few years, you’ve probably noticed groups of young people walking around in red jackets from time to time. Those folks are volunteers at an organization called City Year, who dedicate an entire year of their lives to serving their community. We recently sat down with City Year Columbus Executive Director Lourdes Barroso De Padilla and External Affairs Project Leader Anthony Geraci to find out more. Walker Evans: I’m sure you get asked “So, what’s City Year?” quite often. Do you have a quick summary you can give for someone unfamiliar with the organization? Lourdes Barroso De Padilla: City Year is an organization that unites servers 17-24 years old for full time service. We work in schools K-12th grade helping kids who have gotten off track to successfully completing their schooling back on track so that they can successfully complete high school. 12. Thanks, glad you enjoyed it. I was really excited to talk to him, especially about the potential that lies in the land surrounding Franklinton. "The Plains of Franklinton" as they're sometimes called. ;)

Ha! Sorry about that. I had no idea! ;) Ha! It was actually Alana's food in those boxes, so I think the food was fancier than the drinks! The photo was from the DIFFA Dining by Design cocktail party last fall. Really awesome event!

15. The BDK has a pretty decent selection of prepared food items. Head in there around Noon on a weekday and you'll see plenty of office types sitting at the cafe area eating lunch, sitting at the sushi counter, and occasionally listening to live music too. It's practically a restaurant.
16. Planning Downtown for the Future with Mike Brown By Walker | February 15, 2010 8:00am The 2002 Strategic Business Plan set the stage for a lot of the urban development we see taking shape today. The plan called for new residential buildings Downtown, greenspace improvements, and other types of public and private-sector growth. Tomorrow, the first of three public meetings (event info can be found here) will take place that will set the stage for the new 2010 Downtown Columbus Strategic Plan, which will define our growth strategies and expectations for the future. We sat down recently with Mike Brown, Urban Ventures Coordinator for the City of Columbus to review the 2002 plan, and provide some insight on what we might expect over the next decade. 17. Bit of an update on the program in here: Where All of the Franklin County Trash Ends Up… By Walker | February 17, 2010 8:30am Over the past few years, SWACO has turned their attention towards utilizing landfill trash as an energy resource. In September 2008, they opened the Green Energy Center, a small building located nearby that pulls methane gas from the landfill, runs it through an industrialized cleaner, and processes it into fuel. “Some of the gas is compressed and used for fuel in our vehicles, and some of it is sent into our microturbine,” said John. “The microturbine creates electricity, which is used to power the Green Energy Center, so it basically powers itself.” READ MORE: http://www.columbusunderground.com/where-all-of-the-franklin-county-trash-ends-up

Thang will open his second Columbus restaurant at 1506 Bethel Road in Bethel Center on what is also Vietnamese New Year. Staff at the North Market location reminded me of their new location when I dined there yesterday, and it reminded me of the article in This Week by Gary Seman. 22. J. Gumbo’s Expands with Gahanna Location By Walker | February 10, 2010 The Kentucky-based fast-casual Cajun eatery J. 23. Columbusite, if I land a job in C-bus I want you to be my personal realtor! Unfortunately, there's not an unlimited supply of $375 efficiencies Downtown. I'm glad that Columbusite found one, but my bro-in-law has been looking for a cheap apartment Downtown for a few months now and every building he's looked at has no open units. They seem to be fairly hard to come by, which is why this more expensive apartment will do quite well. Demand greatly outpaces supply when it comes to Downtown rentals, especially ones oriented to a transient student population of around 30,000. I have no doubt that this building will fill up quickly, no matter what the prices are.
24. Neighborhood Launch is a very slow-going project, but they seem to be taking their time and doing it right. They've got 47 existing units and with Bishop's walk adding 27, that ups the total to 74. When the whole project is complete, they'll have 300 units which means that with Bishop's Walk they're only 25% complete with the whole thing. This project is going to have a massive impact Downtown when all is said and done.
25. From here: http://www.columbusunderground.com/neighborhood-launch-expands-with-bishops-walk Neighborhood Launch Expands with Bishop’s Walk By Walker | February 5, 2010 The Downtown residential development known as Neighborhood Launch has begun construction on their next phase, dubbed “Bishop’s Walk”. The new building is located facing Gay Street between Fifth and Sixth Streets and will be home to 27 new units, half of which are expected to be completed this summer. The new building will feature a traditional brick facade and the sidewalk space will be home to a “Promenade Park”, the only one of its kind Downtown. “Locally, we have proven to be one of the most desired downtown locations, providing an active lifestyle and a unique urban living experience, “ said Jeff Edwards, president of Edwards Companies, developer of Neighborhood Launch. Upon completion, Bishop’s Walk will be include 14 townhome units, 12 garden flat units, and 1 bridge unit.
