1. Meh. Ride your bike on the street. Like everyone else. I prefer having a bit of green mixed in with the concrete and brick. Hopefully won't get too covered in dog poo when all of those 200+ affordable apartments are filled with young professionals and their pooches. ;)
2. Actually, there was a smaller building located there that was razed. But yes... the footprint of this new (taller) build did eat up some more downtown parking spots. ;)
3. You pretty much already answered your own question. I think people were expecting something taller/denser and were more upset when it was first announced. Now that they're coming alive people seem to be swinging to the other side and liking this development now that they can see how it fits into the urban fabric of downtown.
4. You can see for yourself here: http://www.neighborhoodlaunch.com/floorplans Looks like the 4th Street Side has completely sold... The new "Park" development wrapping up is mostly all in contract with 4 units remaining... And the 5th Street Side (that I posted photos of) that just started construction recently is still readily available. Seems like they're selling well. I know someone in the process of moving in this month.
5. You are correct, but I have heard a rumor recently that the ground floor of the building will be the new home of the cafeteria. Not sure if that's true, and if it is, if it will be open to the public. Still great that it's mixed use though for the students, who make up 99% of the people walking around this building anyway.

11. Some construction photos from yesterday of the new Downtown High School. This building is pretty huge. 14. Some people don't want to pay higher taxes. Other people are concerned with illegal dumping. Personally, I think the pros outweigh the cons and would gladly pay for trash pickup if it meant allocating that general budget money toward other things.

16. Sorry. I didn't mean to offend, and perhaps I posted hastily. My point had little to do with the victim himself and more with reiterating the fact that the crime happened at 2:20am on a weekend, which has absolutely no reason to make anyone feel unsafe visiting the Gateway during daytime hours. I'm sorry for your loss.
17. I've been to the new Nida's a few times. Good stuff. Great to have it as an option later at night since the North Market location isn't open late. :)
18. Many had been complaining about the high costs of a music director who doesn't even live in the country. Perhaps we can find someone a little more local. ;)

Wait, how many of these buildings are new? Dublin was founded 200 years ago. I'm sure they've got a few originals there. Are there any cornerstones with dates to take photos of? ;)
20. I've heard the exact same thing. Columbus' Urban Czar Mike Brown has been quietly meeting with several neighborhood groups and businesses each week though to continue to promote the Streetcar plan, answer questions, and drum up support. So the wheels are turning even if we're not seeing much in the news right now.

22. The funny this is though... the City has thrown millions over the years into the Short North to help make it what it is. Some people are just going to complain no matter what.
23. Calling Enthusiastic Volunteers If you enjoy creating an awesome experience and sharing it with your city, then you've got the first ingredient to be a volunteer for HighBall Halloween on Friday, October 31st. If you have some hours to help behind the scenes by serving on committees or by setting up the day of the event, then you have the second ingredient. The HighBall is a cross between Carnivale and Mardi Gras with a pinch of Halloween and a healthy splash of the Short North's artistic spirit. The evening's festivities will include Outrageous Costume Contests (all entries are welcome!), a Couture Costume Fashion Showdown for fashion professionals, the Dogtober Howloween Procession for costume-crazed pet owners, live bands, the city's hottest DJs, and $5,000 in prizes! Click here to sign up for a Volunteer Shift
24. From: DowntownColumbus.com BEHOLD: BE-HOLED Tuesday, October 21st, 2008 Unlike other downtown structures, the Sky Bridge isn’t going out with a BOOM. There will be no explosions… nor will there be implosions. But the big Bridge is going out in style. You might even say that it’s going out in unprecedentedly unique style. On October 22, the demolition team will showcase the destruction and area political leaders and the community will gather as they reveal… a giant hole in the Bridge. Normally, a hole isn’t something to celebrate. A hole in the nylons, a hole in an inflatable pool: all bad things. But this particular hole in the skyline will eventually allow dramatic changes to take place on that centralized stretch of High Street. Columbus Downtown Development Corp.’s Amy Taylor shared the timeline on the project. “The Bridge will be removed by the beginning of December, and retail storefronts will be built out sometime in the spring.” That’s right, spiffy new retail storefronts. With the bridge gone, daylight will spill down into that dark corridor and will illuminate fun, street-side spending opportunities. So, even if there’s no explosive BOOM in the near future, the big hole is surely an explosive BOON for downtown’s future.
