Cincinnati: Downtown: Development and News
Without reading up on the building, I labeled it Art Deco because of the cast stone elements and how they seem like embellishments to me and I am more familiar with International style eschewing any type of embellishment. Like I said in my follow up post, styles are fluid and art deco and international style buildings were being built at the same time, with the same technology, using the same tradespeople, and I will stand by this building have more art deco embellishment than the "purest" of international style buildings (Like the much referenced Terrace Plaza). In any case, I mostly wanted to point out that it is not a brutalist building. After reading up, I see that other architectural scholars who have done more research than me label it international style; even though they point out the most comparable projects to this one by Hake and Hake are both Art Deco: W&S and Shillito.

I guess articles about the building say International Style, but that cast stone is giving Union Terminal. Styles are like genres, fluid and fuzzy.

Sir, this is an Art Deco building.

Cincinnati: Downtown: Court Street Developments and News
I'd love to see the "other half" of Court Street undergo a similar transformation as the west half. Then, it would be great to see the county transform the plaza in front of the Courthouse to be more accommodating to people (it's so busy there ALL the time). There could be one continuous super-pedestrianized area from the Piatt Park to the Courthouse.

Looks like a great time! Sad to have missed it. Life with a toddler!

Cincinnati: Northside: Development and News
I'm not sure where it stands now, but there has been organizing around pedestrianizing Vandalia between Gulow and Hamilton. I'm all for it. I think Vandalia could be pedestrianized between Apple and Cherry as well and spur development connecting the southwestern part of Northside to the center a little more directly with more projects akin to the OTR Adopt project under construction now. Here's my latest photo of that. They started brickwork on the far side of the building. I think it's going to look sharp!

Cincinnati: Northside: Development and News
The building at the corner of Cherry and Cooper was being demolished this morning to make way for PLK's project. On a walk to Growing Trade yesterday, my wife commented about home much this stretch of Northside (straddling some old rail line I am too lazy to look up) is awful. Wide open lots surrounded by fences, or worse... not surrounded by fences and filled with old foundations and uneven surfaces. Looking forward to more development in this area.

I found this page on BWE's website. Now Union Baptist has some millions. Will the Union Baptist use that money to build more housing?

Great to see Hargreaves doing the landscape design. The same firm did UC's campus masterplan.

That's what I think every time I walk past the parking lot next to St. Xavier Church downtown... and just generally the potential the Catholic ChurchTM has to house people on its properties.

At first glance, this seems like a very good idea.

Cincinnati: Interstate 75
Now that it's opened, I think the graphic you are showing is correct. I wrongly assumed that it was staying because there is still this unopened portion that *would* allow the tight turn traffic to slip underneath the flying ramp, but I now belive that that is for the northbound I-75 traffic turning on to I-74. Anyways... tangle, boondoggle, and exceptional views of Northside and the surrounding hills.

Cincinnati: Interstate 75
Yes, the turn is tight, but those (Northsiders) exiting to Beekman/Colerain will do so from I-75 now, I believe; still using the tight curve. The flying $90 million dollar ramp will be for those exiting the highway to Montana/West Fork. This gets rid of a condition where folks going from N I-75 to I-74 to Beekman/Colerain will not have to cross traffic with folks going from S I-75 to I-74 going to points beyond Beekman/Colerain and vice versa.

Why a bell of such significance is not on the river completely baffles me. Also, how disappointing... stand alone parking garages.

I grabbed this photo when I was on campus in August and it looks like the business courier's picture includes another image on the fence from a different angle.

What is the yellow zone designated as "median". Would that end up being a landscaped area. All in all, I love it.

Cincinnati: Central Parkway Overhaul
My hope for this project is that it becomes the template for the parkways in the city. Over the next 10 years, it'd be incredible to convert Victory Parkway a complete street as well. Depending on how it is implemented, there could be a lot of lessons learned that could improve other non-grid roads throughout the city like Western Northern Boulevard, MLK, Madison, etc.

you may be right. Heritage is 140,000sf and houses 17,000+ and this site is 120,000sf. It would be dense if it worked.

Why does Liberty bend like it does between Central Parkway and Central Ave? @JYP The "entertainment venue" site is way too small for a new arena as shown. As shown, I expect something that has to do with sports betting or a public indoor sports facility of some kind. Now... if this is just a teaser and there is something larger at play, an area could absolutely fit between Central, John, Liberty, and the parking garage north of TQL. I'm not endorsing that idea... I'm just suggesting that there is the space for it.

If memory serves correctly, I believe there has been a large groundswell of grassroots efforts to make sure a roller skating rink is part of the plan.
