  1. I will give the strongest endorsement I've ever made on here... Sweet Pork Wilson's is THE. BEST. BARBEQUE. I. HAVE. EVER. HAD. And I've been to Charlotte, Kansas City, Dallas, and Austin.
  2. There are massive diggers only 200 yards from the runways. How about we pool our money and pay someone to go Mayor Daly and just dig up the runway a little? Make the city's decision for them
  3. I think you mean NoMTUC? (North of Midtown / University Circle)
  4. Yes, I can say there are far fewer "warts" today than when we bought it in 2018. The daughter is the biggest factor here, not neighborhood trajectory
  5. We have a new garage - and I'm removing the boarded up windows from next door before we show it lol. That's also a whole other issue - the house next door is an out of state investor, and the city made him board the windows due to the number of citations on the property - not sure how that helps fix the appearance of the house
  6. Yeah, frankly we've never had a single crime-related issue, and we love our home. As I mentioned above though, having a daughter just kind of changes our risk tolerance a bit. We're about .5 miles from Kentucky Gardens
  7. Want a 3 bed 3 bath in Ohio City? Lol
  8. Fortunately, we bought our house unfinished and at a discount in 2018, so we should do well on it regardless. But yeah I’m not thrilled to show our house when the property next door has boards on the windows.
  9. Brecksville. Closer to fam and still walkable to ice cream lol
  10. I hate to share this, because I love this neighborhood with every fabric of my being... But we just bought a house in the suburbs (which we never expected to do) because of some of the events that recently took place near our house. Our goal is always going to be to move back to the neighborhood once we're empty nesters, but we've had a number of issues lately, most of which never bothered us until we brought a daughter into the world... - We have squatters in 3 houses within 100 feet of us in each direction, with the city (even given their best efforts) not able to do a whole lot about it... - There have been 4 shootings within .5 miles of our house since May 1. 3 of these were car jackings. - The house next door has been used as a drop-off location for stolen goods (from what we gather), and on a couple of separate occasions that led to altercations between "buyer and seller" just on the other side of our fence. - Our neighbors have had 3 bikes and a car stolen (though they didn't exactly make it difficult for the thieves. Again, I love the neighborhood, and it's an intensely emotional decision for us - but having a daughter altered how we managed and reacted to the opportunity crime. Overall, I couldn't recommend the neighborhood enough - but today we finally pulled the trigger. 😔
  11. I like the idea of Cleveland taking East Cleveland, Brooklyn, Brooklyn Heights, Richmond Heights, Linndale, Warrensville Heights, Euclid, Newburgh Heights, Cuyahoga Heights, Garfield Heights.... Parma could then absorb Parma Heights, Broadview Heights, North Royalton..... Lakewood could absorb Rocky River, Fairview, and Bay... Strongsville could absorb Berea, Brook Park, and Middleburg... etc etc etc...
  12. Fun fact - the first legal proceeding I handled after passing the bar was in East Cleveland in early 2018 (some social media influencers from out of town had been graffiti'ing the rapid and paid us to represent them). I walked into the court and asked if we could discuss a plea because it was their first offense and they offered to pay for the cost of cleaning/repairing the trains... I was told, directly, by the prosecutor, that a reduced plea would cost them $500, and $800 if they want a dismissal. My very first legal proceeding, someone openly told me they were open to a bribe. I told the judge shortly thereafter, and he said she must have been referring to "Processing fees." Reported her to the bar as well and never heard anything from it.
  13. It's not quite this simple - but yes... kids are often exploited by gangs, knowing well that they won't serve more than 2 years for anything short of murder.
  14. I wear my Robinhood of Collinwood shirt with his pic on it at least 3x a month

Arguably, we eat better than other countries, but our portion sizes are f**ked and, the lower you go down the socioeconomic ladder, ironically, the harder it is to find local food (I say ironically because so much of the world's poor are subsistence farmers). Also, to @KFM44107's point... I made some really small changes - i.e. I buy my bread from the bakery at the WSM instead of off the shelf, and , when possible, I take my bike to run any errand within 5 miles. The minor changes made a big difference in how I feel and helped lose some fat. I also think we need to re-implement rigorous phys-ed classes. JFK got mocked for saying this in the 60s, but a sedentary populace is actually a national security concern, militarily and economically.

I also think part of it is the fact that we've made it a faux-pas in America to even acknowledge that obesity is a bad thing.

A really cool example of overall lifestyle benefits on health. This story has always FLOORED me... especially given that these individuals lives got objectively less healthy (re: trans fat, processed foods, etc.) when they arrived in America from Italy. https://haguepartners.com/the-town-that-lived-forever/
  18. Which kind of negates the fun part of living down there lol
  19. I agree with this premise. I was just in Philadelphia and was SHOCKED at the amount of retail developments doing well and realized, simply, that more numbers incentivizes development. For instance, a Lifetime fitness opened in a mainline suburb I was visiting which was 1) cheaper than my gym, 2) offered more amenities (pool, child care, spa, restaurant, etc.), and 3) had better hours - I kept saying "why isn't this done in Cleveland?!?" and realized there are maybe 1 or 2 locations in the whole metro with a dense (and well-off) enough population to make that profitable. That's been another issue of sprawl. We have a relatively large metro area, but the localized numbers make development harder.
  20. So, I say this knowing that it's not the best use of space as is, but that's REALLY upsetting as a local resident who uses that as their local pharmacy. I can't tell you how many times having a pharmacy in the neighborhood has saved me in pinches, especially with a young daughter. Moreover, so many people walk there - for neighborhood residents, that's the only pharmacy in easy walking distance. I also don't want to get too tangential, but I've personally been in there at least 6-8x when there was a coordinated shoplifting effort, and I know they had trouble keeping managers at that location because of frustration with that issue (one even got into a physical confrontation with a shoplifter in one of those instances).
  21. To note... the church's link is actually Tithely, which is different
  22. I believe the bulk of that was roof repairs
  23. This was linked on their website https://campaigns.tithely.com/97560-st-theodosius-orthodox-cathedral/fire-restoration-campaign - can @KJP and the rest of us do our part to share this with our networks? The pictures show the damage, and I fear much has been lost...
  24. Unfortunately for St. Theodosius, it doesn't have a legacy congregation like many of the historic Catholic churches in town. I hope something is done to save it. To comment on @MayDay's point... I actually am a churchgoer, and I don't think it necessarily matters when commenting on these buildings. In particular, the churches in our neighborhoods have a way of subtly recalling our better angels (even if those angels are secular), and the sense of community, pride, and purpose for which each structure was built. In particular, > 90% of Clevelanders would know and recognize St. Theodosius, and it's mere presence is an artifact of our parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents cultural heritage - and emblematic of what Eastern Europeans meant to the development of the South side. For as much as we may complain from time to time, most of us who grew up here are immensely proud of this place - and whether you're devoutly religious or an atheist, neighborhood churches have a a greater imprint on our cultural psyche than any other structures - save perhaps the steel mills.
